TQ:

First character comes to my mind is Zacharias the Everliving. I liked his backstory of trying to usurp his master (Melchior?), losing, then regaining his power by drinking a dragon dry, zombifying it and going back to kill his teacher. Good fantasy story, even if I dislike special characters in general.

Morghur. If for no other reason than by definition he should already exist. Beastmen honestly don't need named characters though, it partially defeats the purpose of them. Kharzrak was notable only because he hated a last name, so not exactly high scale named character power.
Otherwise, I'd like Skarsnik and khalida

Morghur died and was reborn shortly before TOW. Kralmaw's whole deal is that he's looking for the infant Morghur.
Depending on how far out TOW is currently in the timeline, there might still be time to age him up to take part in the great war against chaos.

Looking at the announcement for the second Arcane Journal for Cathay, it doesn't just say that there will be rules for running allied Cathay/Empire armies. It specifically says there will be rules for running allied Cathay/Westerland army. The most prominent city in Westerland is Marienburg.

Do you think they'll use this opportunity to give us a special Marienburg character, and perhaps bring back the Landship?

Almost certainly we'll get a character for marienburg, and probably not on the land ship. I believe the mould for the resin model is gone, but I may have that confused with something else. That said, GW knows the land ship is popular and it must be a tantalising idea for them to make a plastic kit of it (same goes for the war mammoth)

I think the approach they've taken works pretty well. Beastmen actually have something to do in the lead up to the war by searching for Morghur, and his return will actually have some weight to it. Also, it gives Kralmaw purpose as a character. Instead of just being "Morghur but again", he gets to be this blind prophet character who's seeking their messiah.

vermintide doesn't present anything that retcons the main timeline, it's still within the canon of what ultimately happened, even if there's a few leeway regarding how our heroes look like during and by the end of it, due to the choice of class, but it doesn't present any open end (yet).

One major change that sounds minor: model collision. You can't walk through eachother.
Content and class design wise it's obviously very different, and over all a more interesting class mix. Goblin shamans are dps/healer where casting heals back to back makes next single attack spell damage go up by 20% per heal, casting attack spells back to back makes next single heal spell heal amount go up by 20%.
Anonymous No.96318363
>>96318292
No, we know for a fact that ogres were made by the old ones on this world, at best there's the speculation regarding the great maw, which some fanfictions depicted as a tyranid organism that crashed on the planet and infected the ogres' psyche so they would devour stuff for it, but it doesn't hold much ground, the maw was explicitly a warpstone meteor.

It's 100% a pvp focused game with an emphasis on open world pvp.

The standard group size is 6, in a 2/2/2 layout, with thanks, dps and healer.

Whe the game truly shines is in mass pvp, with warbands made of 24 people on discord, led by a warband leader telling you what to do.

Gotta say I've felt few highs as good as being a Knight of the Blazing Sun (Tank), sticking to my assigned DPS like glue to protect him (tanks have a guard system where if you're close to your guard target you actually absorb a lot of the damage passively so you HAVE to stay close) whilst my guild warband plows through uncoordinated pick up groups 3 times our numbers. You're a cog in a machine but when it works, it fucking works.
And each role is crucial. Tanks have to punt fuckers away to disrupt heals and guards so that you can whack dps/healers for example.

You have keep/fortresses defense actions where you'll hop in a zone with your group and if you're good, you can read end a massive group of randoms/unprepared cunts and completely change the day to save the besieged defenders. Or you can try a daring jump from the battlements to flank the sieging forces and destroy their ram to stop the siege.

Another glorious moment is litterally holding the gate with bodyblocking. As another anon mention, combat enables collision (to an extent). And you definitely get a special kind of tingles when you're standing in front of a warband of dozens of people, holding the line, so that no one can enter, whilst your healers are desperately keeping you alive, until the doors of the keep can be closed via an outside allied group running a supply mission.

Honestly a fantastic game, with quite the learning curve that truly comes into its own with a big group of regular players on voicechat.

That fluff was added in 8th edition when they added the sphinxes and didn't really want the bone giant to feel left out from being a statue.

But the bone giant was made of bones before that, it would be neat if the 8th ed lore was represented with an optional upgrade to bring its toughness up to 8 like the sphinxes were.
But then again the sphinxes got debuffed to T6 in TOW, and even the cathayan statue doesn't reach T8 anymore (that one instead negates multiple wounds unlike the khemrian statues, so maybe they could get that as optional upgrade?)

I tried RoR last year and it's definitely not so fun or good anymore, unfortunately. They've squashed the tiers so now after rank 20 or so you are immediately thrust against the big boys. It's a very unpleasant experience unless you have a guild that is willing to carry you until you become competitive again. The low rank T1 stuff is still very fun and cool though.

Fuck I miss the game. Black orc was pure physical defense, chosen was magical defense. One of the abilities every tank had was targeted protection where you pick a target and you split the damage they took in half dealing it to you. So me and my buddy would protect each other as tank front liners. Black orc had roughly half the HP of the rest of the tanks, but took 1/3 the damage per physical hit and every 7 seconds if I hit something with an auto attack I gained 20% of my health back. Shit was so fun.

Yeah, admittedly, being thrown in T2-4 after the tutorial T1 is ROUGH, especially if you connect during Euro evening hours, which are the moments where most guilds are online. You'll get whacked by very optimised warbands or absolute zerg train where you can't do shit against massive numbers.

Thankfully there are tons of side contents to gear up nice and slow, but it's a tad hard to know about it if you don't have guildies telling you and pointing you on the right direction.

>>96318595
The Guard system of RoR is probably the best implementation of a tank in an MMO I've played. It really makes you the big dick thinker of the group because positioning is crucial. Close enough to protect your squishy dps, but also keeping an eye on the healers backline to swap guards on them if they grt focused, whilst trying to put other tanks to help focus enemy targets but ALSO trying to taunt casters and interrupt their spells. Shit was chaotic but when it worked, damn it felt like the perfectly oiled machine. You follow the warband leader and you deleted groups of randos several times your size.

Chosen were two handed weapon tanks. I want to say that the amount of damage they did created magic shielding (think ward saves) and that shielding took half damage or something from spells but full damage from physical. Been a while since I played so I might be wrong on the mechanics. I do remember they needed to deal damage in order to survive though. If they stopped fighting they popped. So melee guys attacked faster than he could gain shielding, but mages needed cast time so he always tanked the spells.
Black orc was like playing a WS 5, toughness 8, 3 wound, 3+ armor piece of metal that gained one wound back a turn in combat. Only took one spell to kill him, but he don't die when fighting. In a battleground once I had 4 of the rogue knife stab class trying to shank me and they never got me below 75%. Then a bright wizard showed up and I died in 3 seconds.

Chosen are the Destruction counterpart of Knights of the Blazing Sun and are, with KotBS, the simplest tanks to play because they relied on auras. Basically your auras did most of the leg work so you just had to make your build and pcik the right ones and you were already doing a big portion of your basic work.

Compared to other tanks like Black Orcs or, god forbid, Black Guards, who are micro-management MONSTERS, it's a very easy class to play.

More offensive than it's Order counterparts, which means the 2handed off-spec can actually pull off decent damage/CC.

The actual group play remains the same as all tanks. Stay glued to your dps to ne within guard range, switch guards whenever a healer gets focused, punt enemy tanks away from their guard targets, interrupt casters and you're already doing like 90% of your job.

Bright wizards are all right in RoR, it's not like there's one class that is high above the rest, except maybe shaman due to the gobbo passive making them fast fleeing little shits that nobody can goddamn catch. FUCK YOU GOBBOS

I personally find that regular orc archers don't often make their points back compared to their goblin and night goblin counterparts. Sure, point for point you lose the extra range, but you gain the ability to move and shoot without penalty, and you get nearly twice as many shots.

A slightly cheesy option is the fact that orcs can have bows and handweapons for free, so you can turn your big block of biguns into bow users with literally no downside, as they'll still retain their hand weapons and shields. I'd also say that pushing that unit up to 20 by cutting something will make them an absolute menace on the charge against most things at 500p. My own big orc block at that point size rode roughshod over pretty much anything it came up against, from Saurus to big blocks of skeletons.

I personally like having a cheap lvl1 or 2 wizard at 500p, but I think magic is fun, so there.

It ends revealing she's been telling it to an audience in a Kislev tavern who couldn't understand her and thought she was annoying. She dies as the story finishes and they feed her to wolves, glad she's shut up but lamenting the loss of warmth from another body in a utilitarian way.
The story is all about a buried Tomb King in Nuln and the plot to awaken him. They don't kill the King or destroy his tomb so it's very much a joke about the forgotten threat as much as it is the heroes and their deeds being forgotten.

Drybrushing is good as anon said, or on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Vallejo metal colour is a dream to work with. It stays fluid on your palette for ages and covers literally in one brush stroke. It's incredibly runny though so you have to be careful not to let it wick into surrounding details. I think it's a nice sportsmanly list for 500pts, but possibly a little under-optimised in that you're taking a few units with drawbacks without taking many of the units that compensate. Plus if you're planning to expand it to a larger force, I'd consider a couple of things...

Firstly, what are the goblin mob intended to do. Imo they're pretty outclassed by night goblins which are not impetuous and can also take fanatics. Common goblins do have an extra point of leadership over night goblins so arguably would be a better tarpit, but they're not great at that, plus I don't think that makes up for the loss of control (impetuous) and loss of deterrent (no fanatics).
That being said, I am a respecter of the common goblin aesthetic so do have a unit of them in my army for fun.

Second, the arrer boyz... As anon says, having a unit of orc boyz with free bows is a nice bump in versatility, but a bit situational if you ask me. And especially if you're just taking 7 of them, I would question how useful they'll be. For their points you're not far off a goblin bolt thrower, or a cheap goblin character to babysit your troll.

Which brings us to the troll - I think that's a fun choice, but it's almost 10% of your points and the stupid rules could see it out of action for multiple turns. Hence babysitting.

And lastly as anon says, the orc unit looks good, but potentially a bit low on numbers. However at 500 points I don't think it's drastically low numbers.

So yeah I think you could help yourself out by concentrating your units a bit more, maybe swapping for night goblins, babysitting the troll etc, all of which I think would make for a more balanced time for you (between things going wrong and things going right) and still not be at all cheesy for your opponent. And then you have a decent base to expand from too.

Slowly working on my Knights (Errant) for my Errantry Crusade. This guy is coming along well, the cloth has worked out nicely, and I hope to finish the rest of him today. (Lance next).

I also came to the realisation today that Errants and other impetuous units within my Errantry Crusade will be a lot stronger after 1.5, given that it's now a leadership check (And therefore the Crusader's Vow will presumably allow it to be rerolled, since it gives units Veteran)

And conversely goblins will be a lot more susceptible to it, especially since they're not allowed to use horde and warband bonuses towards it iirc. As a goblin player I can't even complain, it's way more fluffy that way. I still preferred animosity though

To answer your questions:

>common goblins

As you guessed, tarpit or a bait unit. They take a charge and my big uns and boars get shtuck in. Or opposite if big uns are charged. Plus a 4+ armour save in melee. Not good, not optimal but can take hits OK.

Also theme. Common orcs and gobbos, no hoodies or blorcs. Night gobbos I could equip with arrows and 2 fanatics but the big boss tax digs into other areas of the army.

>arrer boyz

Shoot to pick off 1 or 2 but a reserve counter charge unit if a side is pressured. Its, again, not optimal, just utility.

Name of the game is theme with semi viability

>troll

I squeezed in a great weapon. He isn't going to wim duels or kill a unit by himself but a nice support for the gobbos.

Fought another battle with Korgoth and his horde against Dwarfs. 1k battle, Korgoth lead his chosen knights around to flank while the army made a general advance.

Like tidal waves against rocks, the Chaos army bounced from tje formidable longbeards and warriors, the ogres, marauders and Warriors breaking! Fortunately Dwarfen stubby legs could not catch em!

The Chaos Chosen lead by Korgoth tore into the flank at last. Decapitating the BSB, the Chosen Knkghts mulched the remaining Longbeards, general and warriors, leaving only the crossbows left.

For Chaos, the Warriors, hounds and 3 knights were left.

Thanks for the feedback. Burlock is it in for ignoring long range and rerolling 1s, the BSB is in it for 2 additional static combat res and 5+ ward, and the Runesmith is there for anti-magic and Armour Bane(2). I may get rid of the engineer's Gromil as I find it almost never comes up (I usually try to keep him out of base contact anyhow using terrain or whatever.)
I agree on nearly every point.
>Delete 1 engineer, add organ gun
Was considering doing this anyhow, will do
>Delete unit of miners
While I completely agree they aren't great (and get shot off the board more often than not,) I'm gonna try a bit harder with them; I want to see if I can make them work consistently. I'd probably delete them if I was trying to win at all costs, but I find it makes things a little more interactive for my opponent, and feels awesome when I manage to come out of the ground and charge someone's rear.
>Increase the size of the two ranger units
I've been using them to screen my war machines against attacks. They usually do a lot of chip damage then die occupying bigger stuff for two rounds of combat. There may be a better use of course.
Also considering adding a cart for stand and shoot against cavalry charges for my Thundererunit and to protect an exposed flank while I march up the board, though I dono if that'd actually work out.

However I think there's a big difference between a nicely printed and painted army that sticks to the aesthetics of the game, and unpainted proontslop that looks nothing like Warhammer, and I'd take issue with the latter.

My first instinct to free up some points would be to remove the armour and shields from the boar boyz, because really they should be breaking units on their charge (or flank charging as support maybe, but either way shouldn't be in protracted combats imo). I know Iron Drakes are good but they look too much like AoS models to me to be a big fan. Same goes for most copter models as well. The older metal models looked great to me as they don’t have the weird scifi egg look but I have no interest in metal models on a flying base or trying to track those fuckers down anyway

Looks fun. (Cue the anon who gets triggered when dwarfs are called fun, lel)

Something your list would be good at is bombarding the enemy so much that they're forced to run across the board to get into combat with you so that you can't shoot them any more. So early on in the battle, try and position your melee units to receive the charges you want to receive. And then maybe funnel them into your units by using your gyros like sheepdogs.

Also I'm not sure there is much point in taking a champion on the thunderers, maybe I would drop that upgrade and buy another warrior for the GW unit instead (or some other melee unit if the points don't work out for a GW).

For future, I think there's an option in old world builder called "short descriptions" or something which cuts out standard equipment and makes the list a lot more readable (we all know dwarfs have hand weapons and heavy armour for example).

Out of interest, what's the plan for the lone daemon slayer?

Artillery guard

The plan is to have the models set as a reverse horns of the zulu. I know that the enemy will try to hit full force at the ranged units with the center mass of their army. I also know they will try to flank on the sides hoping to get around the back if I don’t engage to get at the artillery. The goal is to just jam everyone and everything up into an absolute atrocious slog of a melee that will be hammered by the actual warriors. The ranged units are a sacrificial lamb, speedbump and bait.

If they somehow break the line in one go, they will then have a naked greased up retard ready to charge at them to jam them up once again before the 4 inch movement warriors can reach around and slap their ass.

Picture the army deployed like this __ -__
Forward most unit is a ranged unit, artillery park is behind it with the drunken hillbilly.

The poor tomb king and his chariots still can't charge because of miasmic mirage.

At this point I scored something like 340 objective points and also killed most of my opponent's army so we decide to call it a day.

This is my second game after the 1.5 faq and undead seem extremely powerful. On top of that it's also two of the best armies to sit on an objective and just get points. I'd be surprised if they weren't winning a lot in matched play.

I mean your arguement is
>6th ed trumps later lore
Which no edition trumps a later edition. Happens all the time in rolls of who's who for random leaders. Now if new lore doesn't contradict lore from before then the lore remains Canon. And sometimes, lore can be contradictory on purpose (a la high elf vs dark elf versions of the sundering).
So 6th ed lore is Canon until newer lore contradicts it. As for the 6th ed Carstien list imho it's existence as a lore freindly army is still valid, even if TOWs setting I don't know if the Von Carstiens are doing anything.

It wasn't intended as a Blood Dragon thing specifically, just vampires with any mortal followers. Maybe divide it so they can only take mortals from one list so you get Brets or Imperials, not both allowing you to represent some of the vampire lords or mallobaude or the Von Carsteins, as well as whatever bullshit you can think of (the Black Prince in the Border Princes, probably some Lahmian trickery). As it stands the VC list is generic that there's no mechanical differences between the different bloodlines.

If you deny them grave guard and black knights you're denying them the second and third most purely martial units the list. Hardly a martial army list when you have one beatstick unit of knights and nothing else remotely resembling the core idea of undead knights.

Beyond that what happened to Blood Keep is irrelevant. What if you want to play an army representing them before Blood Keep fell? What if you want to play an army of a Blood Knight deciding to copy Walak on a smaller scale or by individually challenging whichever knights passed by him turning them into vampires or wights? It's arbitrarily restricting.

It's the equivalent of describing the heralds of darkness as "you get a chosen chariot but have to take a unit of chaos knights with some other rules and restrictions." Obviously it would need more restrictions than "you need to take one of these units which are the whole gimmick of the list."

I genuinely hate you niggas and hope none of you have any influence over the game/fluff/ etc etc cause you propose some of the dumbest shit with this blood knight wishlisting.

Nobody is as dumb as the guy who thinks
>Remove 4 characters and 2 units from a list
>Move one unit from rare to special
Is a good idea for any list.

First time I'm seeing the Hunter's Spear be used, let us know how it goes..

I'm seeing as you've only got one block it'll be rushed pretty quickly, maybe, make one block of 18,(+3 char for a 21 block) and another or 10 or 11, maybe have them flank something or act as distraction, althought with a block of centigors arrivng form ambush, it might mitigate the drive of your opponenet to rush in.

Still, looks good to me and looks fun to try out too.

Went pretty good. Hunter's spear got 8 kills across the 3 turns it hit, all chaos dwarf halberd gunner guys. Pretty sure that easily paid for itself. Move 8 bolt thrower (5+ to hit though) is really easy to get flank shots. The warhoof did its job perfectly by being threatening enough to pay too much attention too.
The chariot continued to outperform, especially with the cornucopia. Either good luck, or just keeps punching up.
Under half wounds on all 3 characters, centigors fleeing with 2 models at end of game, over half gors left, no wounds on ungors. Hefty win.

The second game though with the other list I felt really bad at the end with.

We did have one question that could have come up but didn't cause the spell didn't go off. Would Earthen Ramparts prevent Frenzy baiting?

If you build the General on Griffin as Karl Franz, can you still give him the lance? Can his mini accommodate the lance? Or will I need to clip some things?
