Kinda how the wanderer prince couldn't have a child with his human wife but the DoK just have to deal with half-elves as just a thing that happens.

Half aelves have only popped up in that story, but when they turned the Prince Maesa shorts into a novel they also explicitly altered the reason his wanderer clan exiled him for his relationship with a human woman, changing it from βyou canβt have kids, and that means your relationship is an abomination to alarielle and the cycle of lifeβ to more standard racism and focus on his position as a king, which implies they could actually have had a kid. Itβs worth noting covens of blood doesnβt actually say what species the father is, just that he isnβt an aelf
Half ogors are a big thing thatve appeared a bunch of times though, their other half has also never been explicitly mentioned but itβs pretty obviously implied to be human given the context of how they show up.

Reminder racism in Fantasy was the point a dark elf father considered the sons he had with a wood elf woman to be inferior halfbreed mongrels and hardly people.
So no wonder half anythings are rare in Fantasy while the more cosmopolitan AoS ends up having to deal with them.
>>96336176
It's just further proof that AoS is modern audience slop. One best parts of wfb/40k was that all the half-breed shit got trimmed out once the settings became more distinct. It also helps enforce separation between factions which lends itself well to a wargame. If they can't interbreed there's no peace and love option. Not mention halfies are cringe mary sue shits who get played by people who like to eat their cake and have it too.

Lmao, I played a dark elf noble in wfrp at one point who helped humans against wood elves simply because he considered them an embarrassment to elven kind and figured they deserved whatever they got for not being real elves. The humans were enslaved afterwards because that's what their there for, of course.

NTA but I got the vanguard recently. It's a decent value, it's about to go OOP for all we know, and I really like the mortal models over the demons (demons are alright).
I thought "ah fuck time to paint these 90 point bloodreavers" thinking they'd be like the new 40k cultists, but they're actually really easy to finish and lots of fun. They come from an era where most kits had interchangeable arms and heads and even some pieces of flair like skulls and trophies that you can just glue on anyone or anything. The simplicity and lack of uniformity in the rag-tag horde allows for more freedom in your painting. You can really mix and match your stocky chibi-berzerkers. the skin is also easy with some off-white and a flesh wash or contrast paint.
I had to use this derpy slasher-movie knife that came in the kit.

I can't recall if it's got to do with their practicing of sorcery or with their connection to Hashut. In any case, back in WHFB it was common for chorfs to develop tusks. Like their gradual petrification it was another one of those physical signs of their corruption.

>Amongst Lady Olynder's hateful court, the Bleak Alchemyst is perhaps the most pernicious. This Lord Vitriolic has a penchant for the spreading of fear, which aligns well with the Mortarch's grim proclivities. Of his many potions and distillates, the majority are fashioned to induce abject terror in his victims. Rumour holds that the Alchemyst was once a scholar of phobias, his desire to understand how mankind's primal instinct for self-preservation reaches pathological levels. When his experiments in creating fear potions began to have lethal consequences, his previous accomplishments within the Collegiate Arcane were struck from all records and he met the hangman's rope. Nagash could not let such a debased soul be wasted. Raised again as a Lord Vitriolic, he was gifted to Lady Olynder. Cloistered deep within the Grieving Vale, he continues his malefic work in a subterranean laboratory-prison on a host of unwilling subjects. On occasion, when he is summoned to battle, the Bleak Alchemyst is accompanied by the Baleful Maidens. These wretched spirits were his attendants in life and are now bound to his side eternally as Myrmourn Banshees, consuming enemy magics woven to counter the despair spread by his wicked concoctions.

some characters swear they have seen the veil at the edge of the cosmos, and that said veil has holes in it through which poke rays of light, and that there are huge things swimming out there, visible only because they block said lights while they pass by, things that make the chaos gods look like children.
If my understanding of what happened in the end times is halfway correct, this bubble of reality formed inside the warp around the bits and bobs engulfed by chaos, making it effectively not dissimilar to any other universe, born in whatever other way, linked to the warp, and that said big swimmers are other deeper warp entities that unlike the gods happen to be uninvolved/uncaring towards the physical worlds.
Otherwise we must assume it is a bubble in the same reality the old world was, just somehow isolated from the rest of it.
But in practical terms, it's still effectively a new isolated universe either way.

Follow-up question :
What's going on in the void between realms, should I picture it as essentially outer space? I know there's lizard ships, and the bad moon and shit, but are there comets and whatnot shooting about ? I assume the stars are in azyr and not the void ? Does anything live there ? I seem to remember it being anti-magic but I might be confusing that with something else.

In the Aetheric Void outside there was a chaos god that mention how there are massive gods akin to the chaos gods but older bigger & "they don't play with their food"
then in a white dwarf article they mention of there the possibility of other realities and worlds something Slannn possibly know but they wouldn't give up said secretes. We know other realities do kind of exist just from Archaon backstory of conquest during the age of myth and the one Slaanesh hero who in love with the demonette model he was said to have come from a world neither the TOW or AOS
So is Radhukar dead? Did Nagash Mortarch him? Have we gotten any new possible mortarchs or updates for the death gang?

Chorfs are too far out but I could see them dropping the underworlds stuff earlier. That is how the leakers said we'd first get chorfs after all.
That being said, I think it's more likely to be 40k stuff since we got ghouls and ghosts for preorder just now. Maybe the new tow egyptians and the aj ?

We just got 40k and AoS weeks, so TOW or some other sidegame seems likely.
Since Death currently has the fewest factions, do we think that they might get a new faction at some point? Right now most of the aspects of death are pretty well covered with ghosts, bones, ghouls, and classic vampires/necromancy. There is the possibility of adding Frankenstein abominations, but I feel like that could also be at home in Soulblight.
I was also thinking of what else Soulblight could reasonably get that they don't already have filled out. They have basic zombies, basic and elite skeletons, skeleton and vampire cav, some big monsters, and a bunch of different hero options. Some patchwork corpses would add nicely to the "fleshy" part of the faction with the zombies. Or they could just release more kits with different aesthetics or something.

I would prefer Soulblight to just be expanded rather than adding a new faction. Ignoring my bias towards them as my favorite death faction, adding a new faction would probably dilute them since Death already has the three fundamental parts of undeath (ghosts, bones, and flesh) while Soulblight is more of the generalist/classic necromancy. Adding something along the lines of Patchwork Men from Fantasy would be a cool way to make something of a zombie Wight King equivalent and expand the zombie section of the faction.
But personally I'd like just more flavors of skeletons, wights, and wight kings. Different armor and weapon styles to make them look more diverse, maybe a straight wizard/lich option.

Vcoast is always an option, as well as just expanding the zombie range within sbgl (although sbgl is massive already, probably better to focus on obr and fec first), you could add the lady of flesh and other frankenstein adjacent stuff. Gib obr samurai.

>but is there even proof a human/elf coupling produces an elf?
not really, the only cases of half elves in warhammer are in one retconned instance of a half eldar in rogue trader, and one warhammer fantasy book that had a boy that was the son a woman had with an elf, but he passed completely as a human to other people, including to the elf protagonist, who too thought such union was downright impossible
I seem to recall something about said half elf being cursed to the long life of an elf, but the normal aging of a human
in any case, if possible, the chances are null to nonexistent, we're talking about two different species, hybridisation between different species are known to occur in very few isolated occasions (I think the most interesting recent discovery was of fox-dogs hybrids in South America?), but it's definitely not something as viable or common like your average fantasy setting where there's mystery meat player characters with ancestry from 13 different lineages including fey, demonic, draconic and undead

And milking the fans of course, but the arcane journals are all tiny 40-50ish page books, they probably legitimately couldn't squeeze in everything for Cathay without making a double sized Journal anyway.

I love death aesthetics but I don't want this. I'd rather they expand fec or obr, or even expand some deathrattle stuff.
If they had that stuff down they could possibly split the vamp dynasties into Soulblight being a more traditional generic one with zombies, and Vyrkos taking skeletons (since they share the same aesthetic) and focusing on werewolves + deathrattle + other perversions of nature or slavic legends. I wouldn't even mind if they retcon vyrkos to be different from the soulblight curse.

Go nuts then, I'll warn you: shooting is getting hit slightly this GHB with the additional cover rules being added. I do still think it's cool and I enjoy gun lines and some sniper towers/artillery (I covet it as a death player) so yeah I say go for it. I imagine at least one anon around here plays cities (there's the guy who painted his spearhead!) who might be able to give a more grounded reasonable response.

also yes, in particular the void is where antimagic coalesces into tangible matter, comets or meteors of that stuff rain onto the realms sometimes, nullstone
you can do lots of fun stuff with it, from instruments to work with magic and other hazardous realmstones, to antimagic weapons or even armors
whether stars and other azyr stuff is actually in the void or just in azyr, and somehow making the sky of the other realms it's unclear, but if we tun with the former, then we have a number of celestial godbeasts swimming in the void, as well as creatures like tauralon headbutting comets into astrally-projecting wizards

What would be a more interesting minor deity for a city to worship in Ulgu?
>The Seafather
A fish god that sacrifices his children to the people of the city as thanks for them feeding him their criminals
>The Twin-Headed Serpent
One head representing the dawn, the other dusk, they constantly fight each other but can never be rid of the other as for one to exist the other must too.

>A fire god whose brightness cuts through the realm of shadow. Only the most devout can see it in the depths of fire
doesnt really fit ulgu.
Only Ulgu stuff i read is "All is foretold" short story, so i might be wrong.
But Ulgu natives feel the most comfotable when in shadow and darkness, its the Azyrites who seek to light everything in bright light.
I like the fish god.

I like the fire one, although like the other guy said you'll have to do some tinkering to make it fit. Maybe this city is azyrite, and it's their way of coping with living in ulgu? Sets up some immediate religious tension in the city too.

fuck I thought I was being neat and silly by doing an inversion of a sea mother trope where the god is cool with you killing his kids instead of being pissy about her children being eaten by landlubbers. I'm a little partial to the twin serpent though, as it could be a nod to Hysh and Ulgu's relationship in the mortal realms, and the fire god, yeah I can see how it would only work in certain circumstances. I think I'll do a bit more research and thinking before I pick one of the two or even come up with a third.

People already mentioned how he got picked up and carried off by nagash at the end of cursed city, but nagash wanted to punish his hubris and like mind broke him into servitude or something, so heβs resurrected and wandering around as a servant. Thereβs a little cutout narrative in the newest SBGL tome where some nervous freeguilders are talking about the legend of radukar, and the one that reassures the other that heβs dead is the one left alive to prove a point when radukar jumps them.
People donβt talk about it but that ending also really fucks up when cursed city is supposed to be set, nagash has been dead since Broken Realms so unless he hopped his half-reformed body out of the nadir to fuck with Radukar it has to have all gone down in 2e, but 2e lasted like max five years after the necroquake despite cursed city talking like itβs been at least a decade/two decades since the necroquake happened and Radukar took control.

Basically turning idoneth into underwater dark elf tier sadists instead of the "commit necessary evil just to survive" type deal they are normally. Engaging in outlandish cruelty when raiding, toying with their victims and stuff. Doesn't really feel like a race that HAS to do this to survive, they just feel like assholes. Their whole society revolves around maintaining the namarti, who are seen as both cursed and blessed. Not so much in the book. Sure they are thralls, but the book goes out of its way to portray them as actively hated by the full souled elves. Iirc they get blinded in the book, instead of just being born blind in the tome.
Then there's also a lot of the dynastic struggle in the book, which is kind of weird since idoneth society should be wholly different from standard human one, on account of the chance of being born with or without a soul being basiclaly random. Monarch is also more of a military title than a political one, but the book kind of glosses over that and makes them your classic medieval fantasy monarchy

the idoneth are often sadistic though. their lineage is cursed because of their connection to slaanesh, and they constantly battle falling into sadistic madness called "the mallachi". they are also a society that has decided to relegate their namartii to second class status, barely above chattle slaves, using them as frontline chaff and labor. and the namartii suffer from learning disabilities because they spend a good portion of their childhood in the rituals attempting to repair their soul instead of participating in normal life. thrallmasters have literally been cast out of normal society and condemned to live with the namartii, implying this is an extremely bad thing akin to exile or imprisonment, and even the name itself is considered an insult
they arent fully dark elves, but they are definitely not just necessary evil

savage orcs have uplifted a guy to godhood through worship (and lots of magic rocks thrown at him in reverence)
also savage orcs make magical warpaints that protect them because they think it protects them
the ironjaws' big fat wyvern is believed by them to be able to fly because the ground is too scared of it and gravity don't want to mess with it
spirits and gheists and other ethereal beings are often immune to conventional attacks, so soldiers need to use silver stuff, or magical stuff, or the power of faith and so on, while some orcs can do the trick just by thinking their fists can do the trick (technically this willpower can be done by others too, but for orcs it's just a bit more common I guess)
the lanky orc special character once defeated a lord of change, cut his hand, and now keeps it as trophy and staff-topper, preventing it from dematerialisng simply because that's what he wants (but then again, he's a shaman)
lots of stuff like this, where you're not entirely sure if it's the orcs' having an effect or something else that's magic in the situation, but fortunately it's never to the same absurd extent the flanderised memes of 40k bring their stuff to

Yeah you're right, I was playing down the cruelty and stuff a bit to drive the point home. You also have Volturnos saying fear is your best weapon and stuff, they train themself to not feel mercy for the surface dwellers, etc. I still think the book goes a bit too far it ends up being fairly dissonant, again with the namarti blinding stuff.
