They're a bottom 5 army in tournaments rn, they're really not that good. 42% winrate or something. Doesn't mean you can't make them work, throw enough troggoths at the problem and you'll get results. But yeah relative to the rest of the meta they're back to being a low tier rng army. True gitz players know by now that gw can't have us being good longer than half an edition.

gloomspite is fairly hard to play well, has a LOT of trap units and just really really fucking bad warscrolls, it has some of the worst army rules in the game, a roster full of wizards with a bad spell lore and bad endless spells, it leans super heavily on like 2-3 warscrolls (squig herd, bounders, and rockguts) and if you arent spamming them you basically auto lose all but casual games.

gits is in a rough spot and kind of always has been, whoever they keep putting in charge of designing the army is a sadist who likes seeing gits players suffer

they were 30% winrate for all of 2nd edition, only got better during battletome 3e because of a few extremely busted scrolls but the rest of the army was bad, and the new 4e incarnation is closer to their 2e version, with nothing out right broken so they suffer, loads of jank that just doesnt work or is keyword bingo'd to hell and back, and units which werent great in the first place that got nerfed into the ground for no reason like the mangler squigs.

part of being a gits player is facing the ultimate test of weather you can endure their awful rules design or not.

They suffer a lot from two design decisions in 4E
>Goblins are all 4+/5+ baseline now because ha ha ha Goblins are supposed to suck
paired with
>Companion Weapons being mostly unbuffable now and mostly shit
Since most GG models rely on their mounts for damage (nerfed) and also aren't really much of a horde army outside of spamming their most basic units it's no coincidence that their best play is spamming units that are both not-goblins and not-mounted since that's the best way to avoid the systemic nerfs.

Call me a sucker, but it remains Shyish. As a kid I read this book series called Septimus Heap. In it were ghosts who just sorta walked around with the living and witches who lived outside cities. Not all was cake and whiskey, as the witches for example killed all the child-eating ones after the regular people started roasting them on stakes. It had these little touches of worldbuilding, like how most suburban towns had two zones. The area which was behind 'the wall' and those areas beyond it. Even decades after they became proper cities many such places had the older residents stay where the palisades used to be; even if the only remains was a particularly deep ally. Because back in the day you were only safe if you were behind it. It didn't indicate which area was richer, for example a few cities as they grew had the inverse as richer nobles arrived to these towns with the money to build their own little forts. In effect turning what was the prosperous areas into ghetto's. You can see those little touches in Shyish. Cats being able to see ghosts or Cado knowing the rites to put a man to rest. The fact that because marintine trading is so important in Lethis their Freeguild all come from the Blackshore Guard even though the only body of water is a lake. Ossiarchs being known as 'Paladins of Nagash' and trading with them despite being enemies. The fact things actually have a reason to fight and exist rather then 22k Beastmen showing up to fight some vampire.

Despite being the realm of Death, it's the only realm that's alive.

To me a big part of this problem is they apply things universally the same. There's no point in running shit units when the more elite statted units just benefit from *everything* more.

Why rally 3-4 goblins back when you can rally a 3+/5++ hero a few points? Power through also has bigger returns in keeping a high price unit with safe trades. All out defense has better returns when a unit already has high saves, same with AoA.

There's just not much consideration behind what it means to be these unit types. The archetypes exist more of a balance lever, which is mostly just to say "fuck you" to infantry so far, which don't have an inherent perk to them other than OC, not even wound density like they used to have. I guess they thought the game would be way less lethal and oc would be a bigger deal or just really didn't a horde meta to take over again.

Having only really briefly looked at the rules for both AOS 4th and 40k 10th, has GW really just cast magic to the wayside as a gameplay concept for the most part? 40k 10th literally doesn't have a psychic phase and the psykers only have one spell, and looking at AOS 4th it doesn't seem much different. How is the Dom novel? Worth reading?
Anonymous No.96358721 >>96358739
>>96358682
Not really. It features fun challenges from Ghur itself, but the story is wasted.
The main character's sister becomes the chosen one because a glimmering shines brightly in her hand, so she leads an expedition to Fort Whatever to reclaim it because it is taken as a sign of Sigmar's favour. He's basically a sidekick given too much focus. All this is done to hide a twist at the end of the book which isn't that great.
The Stormcast mage guy keeps having a vision of Yndrasta in a battle and he feels he must join her, but it turns out it wasn't Yndrasta. It was the main character's sister all along. Thr sister and stormcast die in battle against the orruks and she is reforged as a stormcast.
If the book had taken place from the sister's POV, this reveal would have been clear from the start because the sister receives visions of the future from the glimmering.
The Kruleboyz are a threat halfway through the book and don't get a single proper POV chapter. They feel almost like an afterthought, like the writer swapped out some other enemy force with them.
Anonymous No.96358739
>>96358721
>>96358682
I forgot to mention that you get to follow the brother's attempts to scam his way into the good graces of a Kharadron architect, which feels drawn out and like it should have been a small subplot instead of one of the focuses.
The stormcast dealing with the Kruleboyz was great because they were so unused to kunnin' orruks.
Also the beginning starts off in Excelsis which gave a good contrast to the wilderness. It wasn't that much safer, but it was filled with "normal" dangers like witchhunts and shady back alley deals.

there's no rumor, just speculations

savage orcs got removed, so that orcs have one gorky version and one morky version
the same situation is in gits, with the moon version of goblins and the sun version of goblins, savage (forest) goblins being the odd one out

the spider riders are quite old as a kit, and visibly stiff and monopose, in a more noticeable way than for similarly old kits like basic goblin stabbas
the aracnarok is probably why they haven't been removed yet, because it was an 8th kit and quite a centerpiece, but gw has removed younger and more impressive centerpieces before

the old world includes spider riders and the aracnarok in their rules, but not in the range, yet, so either they've been included because they're planning on removing them from aos, or it's some kind of exception, because while it's true that for the most part tow and aos seem to avoid overlap, there are exceptions there

spider elements have been integrated here and there into moonclan goblins, and we have seen concept artwork for new spider riders that have moonclan goblins riding on the spiders instead of forest goblins, so one possibility is that the models will go away, but only because they're getting redesigned as proper moonclan units

a replacement kit for the aracnarok is a bit more unlikely, it's a big kit, and it's not a given they would redo it as is instead of replacing it with a differently designed monster

one possibility which I do consider, but noone else seems to have done so far (because it's a bit out there, I admit), is that gw might repurpose the unreleased gallet incarnate as a sort of replacement for the aracnarok when that will go away

If the Empire acted ignorant of them then the Skaven feel safe enough to backstab and sabotage one another because that's what they do; if the Empire ever made serious war against them they'd pretty quickly drop the betrayal act and unite together against it and the last time that happened (during the Black Death) the Skaven wiped out almost 90% of the Imperial population

I think it doesn't, which is why they throw in the yearly mini or whatever other bonus they do, so people get into the service for the mini and gw can write on the investor report that the app made this much in sales, while in truth it's only doing that mostly for the mini and they're hiding the money they're losing in the miniatures making part, where it is practically unnoticeable because of the overall positive sales of the company at large.

I think their goal with wh+ is just to have a certain number of years of fake positivity that they can present to partners that may be interested in getting the warhammer license for shows or movies or whatever.

Anonymous No.96359997 >>96360016

No, because there is value in being able to tell investors you have "x" number of paying subscribers, especially if the number goes up every quarter. Also it gives them a much larger budget for creating content than they'd get doing it for "free".

Also also in the long run the hope is that eventually they do have enough enough subscribers to make it actually profitable but that's a goal, not something they need to prove tomorrow. Chat GPT for example does not turn a profit with subscribers but they do bring in billions in revenue and it helps to cement their dominant market position.

Basically doing something that brings in some money and could in theory someday bring in even more money is more likely to get the greenlight then something that is a pure no-revenue venture is. And when I say long game, I mean long, it's common for these kinds of schemes to not become profitable for a decade or more.

There is also somewhat of a backlog effect when it comes to content. Like WH+ on release was an absolute joke, you were basically paying money for the promise of future content and little else, whereas now a few years later, it's still not "great" but you do have access to all the shows and animations they've previously made during that time, etc.

They completely fucked every single army book except FEC. And there is no real way, realistically, they can unfuck them (GW will not reprint entire books/cards). Having an engaging core set of rules (including SoG rules) is not enough of the armies are boring. They made the armies far too boring.
If they inject soul back into the armies with their indexes for 5th edition and just TWEAK the core rules (basically keep the current rules with SoG added in, maybe clean up terrain and endless spells), 5th will be the best 'mainline' GW game ever released. But knowing GW they will fuck it up somehow.

12 Vanguard armies, a bunch of terrain and a handfull of paints. Assuming they're priced like Stormbringer (11€) and are planning to run foor the same number of issues (80), thats a total cost of 880€. Each Spearhead would cost you around 98€ (with the 15% LGS discount), so a total cost of 1176€. You save 296€, and get the terrain, paints and brushes for free.

Fair thing to worry about. GW seems to be moving away from having a single model be available across multiple armies, probably due to greed, so being able to only take a single RoR would limit your options. However, unless you're playing a tournament, just talk to your opponent before the match and ask if he minds, you'll find that most people don't give a shit as long as you pay the point cost.
