When I was in 3rd grade yu-gi-oh was becoming popular at my school and kids would bring their decks to play during break time or lunch, I had a bunch of cards mostly cause I liked looking at the pictures and watching the show. I decided to group all my cards into different decks and bring them all in one of those tins. My teacher had a strict policy that you could not have them out during class time and the first day I brought them, first period one of the other kids walked over and asked to see my cards. I popped the lid open and the teacher walked in, she confiscated them for the rest of the year. I never bothered to learn how to play the game and they fell out of popularity by the end of the year, I wonder if I did get the chance to play with others if I would end up like one of the fat guys in that pic.

Predictable, repetitive, demoralizing.

One of them is a fucking weeb, and so his character is going to be a samurai and he's going to try and make a mech suit, regardless of the setting. His roleplay style is "I played Devil may cry and liked the dialogue".

The other is somehow MORE of a weeb, but way more insular. If it doesn't make a super-suit from a belt that says nonsense-words, it's not worthy of his attention. His roleplay style is self insert. Upon my talking to him about a low magic euro-centric fantasy setting i wanted to try out, he asked if his character could have a smartphone.

the POWER-AUTIST of the group is actually fairly chill. He's a paragon-for-life, plays paladins and knights, actually gives a good heroic speech.

The forever DM / mage player has developed his own magic system and now judges every other system in comparison to it, and will see it all as beneath him if it isn't similar to his house-ruled "mother may I" system. I've been tempted to post it here once or twice just to see what the channers would make of it.

I'd get a new group but every other group local to me seems to be either very furry or very faggy. I've skipped the last few sessions and feigned covid because i just don't feel like the same old drek over and over again. I'd LOVE to DM but...

I don't mind. Covid break was great to figure out that my group doesn't like playing TTRPGs, but everyone kept playing under the assumption the rest of the group is into this. In reality, we just wanted to have a reason to keep the group together after finishing uni and to hang out. Which can be done without playing.
Pretty much the only thing that still keeps me in the hobby are the irregular games held in the local library and my board game buddies.
