Had a pretty fun game yesterday.

I know a lot of people like these guys, and it just kind of blows my mind. I think them and the sea elves just fucking suck completely. I guess it's just an aesthetic that doesn't appeal to me. I think the model is well executed for the idea, but the idea is utter dogshit. The fact that some of these factions even exist mean I will never get into AoS even though there are some pretty good models.

I feel pretty strongly that stormcast suck as well, despite again some of the models being very well executed on the idea. I just think it's a lame idea. They also are more detailed than marines which means imo kitbashing them into something more unique or altflavor is harder or less impactful.

Okay either GW doesn't give a dime about Eldar players opinion, or Eldar players for 20 years enjoyed being Imperium's sidekicks (but somehow Yvraine was enough is enough).

That's not what would've happened.
The original idea was to just kill off Slaanesh and then replace it with Ynnead.
And then in doing that, GW merges both DEldar and CWE into 1 faction.
And the fluff for this is that since Slaanesh is dead now and Ynnead exists, the eldar no longer need to fear anything meaning they can just start bringing back their old Empire before it went to shit due to the Fall.

And GW killing off Slaanesh theory is like 99% correct since in AoS there is that one art piece regarding chaos showing all the chaos symbols in a circle, Nurgle, Khorne and Tzeentch are on it but then Slaanesh is replace with some random spiky symbol (it wasn't the 8 pointed chaos star).
Also in AoS Archaon has that one dragon creature he rides upon, which has only 3 heads, which are based on their colors khorne, nurgle and tzeentch. But slaanesh influence in the beast is nowhere to be seen... for some reason.

According to Abnett beams produced by plasma weapons travel faster than "las-rounds" whose trajectory can be witnessed and tracked by humans during adrenaline-caused slow-mo moments. In one of the books Gaunt sees how "las-round" consecutively ricochettes several times before hitting fellow soldier.

That's the thing, my guy. I LOVE STEAMPUNK as an aesthetic. I just think the dwarves look awful and aren't interesting. Steampunk can be done great, it was just done in such a weird cartoony. I don't know how to put it. Everything in warhammer fantasy to 40k to necromunda... it all has a throughline of being either scary or cool. I don't think the balloon dwarves are scary, and I don't think they are cool. These guys looks like they come off of a 1970s jam band cover not a 1980s heavy metal cover. Does that make sense?

AoS has some neat stuff like the flesheater courts, and I like a lot of the chaos stuff. But overall the setting is so noblebright and disney feeling. The thing that I like feel like holdovers from fantasy. You could TELL me that these balloon dwarves kill people, rob people and are evil or something. You could tell me they hold grudges to a ridiculous exaggerated degree to the point they kill people. But these models don't tell that story at all.

Even votann at least have design language of their corporate themes, with engineering and technician inspired outfits and the presence of robots and such.

Dwarven steampunk can be done cool, like most things in AoS its just flubbed. I can't tell if they are trying to be super distinct so its easier to trademark and copyright or what. Dunno, but it kinda works for the miniature wargame format. The models all have unique and dynamic-looking shapes that read well when viewed on a tabletop. The eels don't look like the sharks what don't look like the turtle what don't look like the chaff footsloggers. It means it's easy to take in what every unit is and what it does. The cogfop dwarves have a similar thing going on. Tyranids also have this going for them in 40k. The gallery of strong shapes is just a tiny thing that facilitates play and makes the armies as a whole more visually interesting.

You only have 2 unique infantry squads, 2 unique named characters, a few unique generic characters (one of which is an Ancient) and the option to take meltas on your Repulsors. At that point, if you want to run Space Marines, why not just choose Dark Angels, Space Wolves or Blood Angels instead? They both have much bigger ranges than Black Templars.

I was planning to get some BAs and wanted to try and salvage the sanguinary guard by making them fancy sergeants or captains by giving them regular power packs.

Then I looked at the back and saw it didn't have the same male and female parts.
I went to check with regular jumppack intercessors and they also have the different connection system.

It's the same shit as with HH, GW made the powerpacks and jumppacks not-compatible on purpose.

You can have Lieutennants and Castellans. Which give lethal hits to your weapons.

This is enough to give exactly 6 units of primaris crusaders, full units lethal hits. fall back, shoot and charge. Natural, not army rules or temporary shit.

+60 or +65 points per unit as more of an upgrade to 20 dudes at a time. making each unit 370/375 points, which you can fill out completely in 2000pts no problem. Five units of this and some ranged and you're good. 140 pts to work with, maybe use a tank or scoring unit.

Our resident black legion anon uses stegadon scale green and fenrisian grey to highlight his black and does a neutral gold by shading retributor with agrax. The resident thousand sons guy has a nice warm gold recipe that uses contrast paints for shading. You can maybe check those out if you want some reference

Update from last night's Cawdor Scrap Shrine mech thing. Added a ton of wires and gap filling, and swapped the main weapon to a melta cannon.

Don't worry about the weird textures, it'll just end up looking like rust and decay when painted.
