>Are you looking forward to the Tomb World terrain? Will it manage to be a successor to the ItD terrain, or is there some flaw you see with it already?

The flaw is that its Necron terrain, making it pretty much a one-trick-pony. It looks great, but it will always just be that: Necron terrain.
Say what you want about the always samey imperial ruins (including the ITD terrain, which is in imperial design).. it just is way more versatile.

I will try to get a set (i have no high hopes, because the Marines will make it a high demand box), and hopefully its compatible with the ITD connectors, but if i do not get a box, i am not terribly sad about it either.

I personally am skipping it.
Into the Dark is cool and fun, but I feel like doing it again but slightly different is a bad move.
Should have gone for something that neither ITD nor Volkus offers.
Still better than Beta-Dogshit though.

Also really sucks to see the price jump on this box.
I was sort of excited to get the terrain and the Deathwatch team and then just use the Necrons to run joint ops for friends.
Then I realized I could get a Saturnine box and finish my CSM army for the exact same price and pulled the trigger on that instead.
If this box is anything like Hivestorm, it will sit at my locals until my funds replenish and maybe then I'll get it.

It's not just the team building not leaving anything to be discussed. Kill team's gameplay is good now, but it's incredibly rare that rules questions can lead to any meaningful discussion. There are basically just two types of answers to a question about what to do in a situation - either the answer is obvious and not worth discussing because it can be answered correctly just by reading the rules/FAQ, or it's so complex that it becomes impossible to answer without a level of detail about the situation in question that it is impossible to achieve it in a 2000 character post and a single image.
Not that this makes the gameplay bad, mind you. Just not very useful for discussion here. Combined with no real options for team building and all that's left is speculation and easily answered beginner questions.

If it's just for beginner games I suggest doing a Joint Ops. You share a kill team together and you fight against random mobs, like Hormagaunts or Necron Warriors. This way you can dedicate yourself to your rules, because the opponents are basically an horde of extremely simple enemies, and get a feel of how the game works. Playing Aliens is always fun.

In the app you can find a sequence of 3 Missions about your team having to deal with a sniper. They are generic so you can use basically whatever you want as enemies, which if you are a TS player I suggest using Slaangors. They are supposed to be used with the Volkus terrain, but you can basically use whatever you want as long as you have a similar layout.

As an alternative you can find other 3 generic joint ops missions in the Core Book, about infiltrating a facility, sabotaging it and then escaping while the enemy hordes try to catch you. As I said they work by having generic datasheets for the NPCs, with examples of what models you can use for them. So for example nothing stops you from using a mix of cultists and Marines, or something similar.

In any case, remember that GW is discontinuing the "Year 1" Kill Team kits. Krieg already got repackaged to 40k without the upgrade sprue. Kommandos and Novitiates are about to get the same on preorder, but it appears they'll keep their KT upgrades, even when Novitiates have a separate upgrade sprue like Krieg. Like Legionaries Phobos and Pathfinders always had their 40k kits without the upgrade sprue. GW is still selling Blooded and Corsairs, but we'll see what happens to them.

I find it incredibly strange that GW hasn't made a Hab-Block as a terrain setting yet. It would be nice to have all the little dilapidated apartment blocks with all the paraphernalia of a shithole tower like small wall mounted beds beds, shelves, benches, desks and what-not. If not a hab-block, a prison-block or something similar with all the cells, yards and other stuff. They could twist that there has been a prison riot or something and that the prisoners were low-level cultists and shove out a new cultist set this way (they are getting rid of bloodied, aren't they?).

I get these aren't 'big' settings like a tomb world or some sacred artifact, but this kind of thing would be a reason I'd get a KT box for the terrain rather than the minis.

Marines boxes have unfortunately been pretty consisted for a decade at this point. If you are a basic marine unit (tacticus/Phobos, very little options if anything at all, anything that GW might consider a basic entry to the army) you get a 10 models box. If you are a veteran, a unit with options, anything with a jump pack or something that might qualify as big or elite you get the 5 models box, or even worse the 3 models box. Very little has been deviating from this logic since 5th edition. The only reason for why Deathwatch veterans came in a 10 model box before was that Deathwatch was considered a separate faction by GW, and thus got the entry point discount.

You might not like it (I don't) but that's how it works.

That's completely retarded. The new kill team is a classic multipart kit where the torso and the legs are a single piece while the arms, the head, and the backpack are separate pieces that can be easily swapped between each other and between other marine kits.

That's completely different from Deathwatch Overkill where you have stuff like a marine that has the whole right side of his body, arm and leg included, as a single piece, while another one has an arm that is also fused to half of the torso, no head as a separate piece and so on.

Sure, if you follow perfectly the instructions you are going to end up with exactly the same poses, but if you want you can easily do stuff like having a marine dual wielding a knife and a power maul on the sergeant body, or have two breachers in a different pose because you are mixing stuff from the Heavy Intercessor kits. Grudge token plus toil earns and one natural crit led to 12 damage on the initial target and 3D3 damage to the other four, 36 damage in total. Unfortunately he failed the cleanup afterwards and still lost after letting the wounded marines run rampant for too long.

Cassius has given me a ton of interesting parts to work with, it really doesn't take much to separate the arms from the torsos and the heads are for the most part just ready to swap. So no, it's not comparable to cassius, it's a massive downgrade from that too. It's the worst parts of both the generic box and the cassius box with none of the good parts.

Now that what the instruction booklet tells you is possible is what determines the rules, deathwatch just aren't what they should be. I know we like to talk big about rules being temporary and models being forever, but it's been 4 years since I was able to use my deathwatch team's original sergeant and main man without proxying him in some way or using homebrew rules (I armed him with a stalker bolter and xenophase blade back in KT18, not exactly an insane loadout). Out of the 24 models I have in my deathwatch (16 if discounting the ones that are really out there loadout-wise), an incredible 3 of them have currently legal loadouts. Grinds my gears something massive.

Honestly, I think that you are projecting you dislike for current Kill Team in terms of rules/edition on new kits because you associate them together. This is the kind interpretation. The less one is simply that you have completely rotted your brain.

Nah, the new kit sucks even independent of its effects on the rules. I can certainly complain about both.

It has 11 weapon combinations. Even accounting for reasonable arm swap combos, the new kit is not very far ahead of that, just without any of the details and wild bits that made cassius attractive to build. And unlike cassius, there is not (and I'd be incredibly surprised if they made) a kit with more poseable models and a massive amount of weapon options that you could use in place of or in combination with it for expanded options.

So if I am following your rule of thought basically you are saying that Cassius is a better kit because you can use knife and green stuff con convert while the new one is worse because despite actually been made to allow easy kitbash with other kits it's not compatible with a third better kit

Could end up looking very bland, since you'd have roughly the same brightness on everything. Contrasting brightnesses help a colour scheme, more than contrasting colours. A few bits that are brighter to pop could do such a scheme good.

You can't take both the plasma gunner and plasma pistol on your leader. Most opt for the gunner
Flamer is not great on open boards, maybe better on ITD with lethal, but often left behind since you can only have 3 total gunners/sharpshooter
Enforcer is basically an auto-take for enabling your gunners to shoot twice in a tp
Ogryn is fun but depends in the matchup. You may want 2 troopers instead (group activation krak grenades are mean)

Blooded token/gaze of the gods management is key. Be aware of abilities like your leader that automatically grant those statuses

And you have a ploy that lets you shoot into melee and a serious sam mad bomber guy. Get close to your enemy and abuse them

Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows
