Thinking about perhaps Khorne-ifying some chaos warriors since the normal blood warriors are... a bit on the goofy side. Head fits well enough size-wise I guess, dunno about the helmet crests clipping into the shoulders. I guess I could live with that since we have the cloak there to suggest some amount of flexible volume the crest could push itself into (that just isnβt modelled, as playing digital lego with the pieces here are about as far as my competence goes).

Surely theoretically possible, but in my case it'd likely demand a decent bit of study and practice to be able to do it. Might look a bit weird(er) too, as then they'd be more on top of the head than starting on the sides of it. Might be something to keep in mind as I look through the rest of the blood warrior heads though, perhaps some are set a bit lower than others and thus have both more room to move up and clip worse.

Not really, the Armybox has a much better hero pack in. If anything the real insult is that the Spearhead doesn't include the massively Overpriced chariot hero.
I mean, it's all meaningless either way. There's no way to actually play Gitmob, you're paying out fat stacks of cash for units and heroes that are like barely over 100 points/box and they're shit regardless.
>>96493756

For the knights, how many of each weapon option are there? Could I make all of them lancers in one box? I hate the "charge" pose the leader has with his sword up in the air. It's too reminiscent of the old kit and looks stupid considering how the horses are posed more in a slow walk than a charge.
I can't seem to even find a good picture of the sprue online and GW seems to flip a coin on whether they'll add one to their store these days.

Gitmob goes back a longass time, really. The Snarlfangs were released in 2019, that was six years ago and they would have been conceptualized even earlier than that.
GW's 3+ year pipeline (and that's without delays) is so deep I don't think people really realize sometimes that everyone they put out today is shit somebody at GW thought was a good idea 3-5 years ago. It takes them like half a decade for them to pivot in response to feedback.

you know they can do both right? They can release cool models and give them rules that make them decent in the current meta? I guess the bigger issue is stuff like split factions like gloomspite gitz which is actually 3 different factions but instead of writing rules that make picking each subfaction good, they wrote it so that only one is decent and they want you to use all of them, despite still writing the rules in a way that doesn't benefit all subfactions at the same time.

Can you at least change your schizo narrative to gw is trying to cater to compfags and failing miserably?
Large scale tournaments are significantly down in attendance this last year. If gw made the changes for comp players then they did a crappy job at understanding and what they want from the game.
On the flip side if gw made the game for new players then spearhead is doing well.

It's like they stopped halfway between a real aesthetic change. Like they were going for a more chill, marching look with the models but then sort of kept the riders almost the same as the old ones. Hell, I showed my friend pictures of both and told him to guess which kit was newer and he guessed the old Black Knights were new.. It really shows how little actually changed with them.

> Spearhead is doing 'well'
How do we know? And no, GW saying it is isn't an answer (they don't reveal how they track anything and they are known to manipulate the numbers anyway). Hell how they they track it. By box sales? That's a shit metric as a fair portion of AoS players (not spearhead) will buy a box or two for the discounted models (rarely two because GW specifically doesn't want you to get value out of doing that). This doesn't even account for spearheads purchased by TOW players. Is it events? Where are those tracked? Is it one day, two day, etc? Is it on BCP (again, another GW product I wouldn't trust), Malackery, some Euro thing? I hope it's not YouTube views, besides the kick off with over a year ago views on recent spearhead content are in the trash (the biggest with less than 35k views in 11 months is a free episode from Warhammer Plus).
How do people know spearhead is doing good?

The gitmob box was a huge flop and they know it. Hence the spearhead being released out of nowhere, probably so they can just move the product out of the warehouse.
The darkoath box gave you what, 26 models, including a hero and a monster.

GW's metric of tracking things is so weird. You'd think that they'd care primarily just that model kits are selling and not necessarily care which game is doing well. . Sure, knowing which games are popular is important, but the actual games are totally secondary to GW's product.
The way I see it, GW should stop giving a shit about keeping all of the games separate and track pure model sales as a metric of what to produce more of. Then, for the purposes of knowing the health of the actual gamnes, track things like tournament attendance, certain youtube channels (battle reports most likely), and ask for actual customer feedback about what people are playing. I ahve to imagine most people have a Warhammer account. THey could very easily send out monthly polls just asking people what they're playing and how they rate their experience. Let the fucking people buying your products tell you how they feel about the products and games.
>TL;DR
Just track pure model sales, don't silo everything into one game, and ask the customers how they feel about the games and models.

Rumors also suggest that the exact same thing happened with the SBGL Army Box that came out a few months later, and that furthermore GW advertised the contents of these as yet unreleased Spearhead boxes for both armies months in advance.
I'm sorry that you've been in a coma for the last 10 years and didn't realize this is exactly how AoS releases work, but at some point you've got to take some accountability for your severe and crippling brain problems.

Supposedly the CoS box was also 200 burgerbucks, and that one was Β£120/β¬155. 240 bucks in canadian monopoly money. Glad to see it's cheaper than usual but it still feels like a pretty pricey box. I hope it's not just more of the vaguely Eastern Europe look, but that seems to be the aesthetic they're going for even though that was seemingly supposed to just be for Cursed City and their Slavic beast vampire dynasty. I just want a more traditional Vamp Counts look for at least some models. I'm sick of the Slavic look. No more curved swords!

Going to throw this out there anon: GW isn't a well-run company. They were one of the first companies to push wargaming and hobbying for it which got them a huge market share. They have used that inertia to maintain the market lead, but they do a lot of bizarre shit that in any competitive business environment would cause them to flounder.
Their main advantages is that gamers are obsessed with 40k lore + space marines, and that no other wargame has managed to sink the sunk cost fallacy.

the problem is that it only becomes fallacious thinking when the alternative is clearly superior than continuing with your sunken cost. other wargames have often proven to be/become shit enough that the formula doesn't clearly weigh in their favor.
>(sunken cost of GW models) + (value of continuing with GW games) = consoom-score

The monopoly kind of perpetuates itself, getting into any non-historical wargame that isn't gw is insanely hard to find people to play with. Gw essentially gives you a guarantee that your collection of minis will actually ser play.
That being said I don't think gw is THAT badly run. Lots of fuck ups but there's a reason aos has stayed consistenly hovering around the top 5 wargames while others have come and gone. Where is x-wing now? I think since 2015/2016 gw has figured out the formula and now they just get to sit back, raise prices every now and then, and watch their competitors shoot themselves in the foot.

I played against them today. Cryptguard are kind of retarded against melee armies (and absolute trash against ranged armies), and they just have way too much fucking fight-first/fight-last. I won because my opponent went full retard and placed both his archregent and Gormayne within pile-in distance of my Deathmonger Daemon Prince, who proceeded to whack both of them and then power through away to escape a very angry-looking Ushoran and Ghoul King on Terrorgheist- staring him down. Then again he fucked up and charged Ushoran into Binding Damnation range which meant I actually got a chance to kill Ushoran (after a unit of 10 marauders, heroes all, somehow managed to dunk 5 wounds into him). In the same turn, a unit of Cryptguard lost nine models and then proceeded to almost kill a unit of Chaos Knigths despite that. That 3+ to fight first is a stupid-ass rule on a unit with a billion attacks (if my Daemon prince hadn't managed to take out nearly half the unit, they would have wiped the knights and probably half the chosen too). Because Ushoran got slapped with a fight last and was pretty wounded at the front, I brought him down with 5 chosen and a warqueen, and then my exalted hero took his ghoul king to 1 wound, and it got finished off by the chosen's second activation. Here he surrendered, which, fair enough, but if he hadn't given me the game by ramming both Ushoran and his ghoul king into my reinforced Chaos Warrior brick I dunno what I would have done. That ghoul king is kind of insane too, Ushoran whiffed, but that thing killed like 14 chaos warriors who were on a 3+/5++. It didn't even roll well, it just has a truly absurd amount of quality attacks coming out of a single model.

Which is weird because it's pretty easy to see that WHFB was failing to bring in new players because of army sizes. NOT some weird lore thing. No one wants to start a new hobby by dropping a grand and having to spend hundreds of hours painting just to field a basic bitch army.

Yeah I think that's why they had the, at the time pretty baffling, idea to just do away with points and let people just bring what they wanted. It seems insane (and it was) but when you realise it was an extreme overreaction to the bloated army sizes of late whfb it starts to make more sense. Again this goes for a lot of weird 1st edition-isms.
I do think it's a little more complex than just bloated army sizes though. For example, gw was a pioneer when it came to switching to plastic minis instead of metal, which paid off in the long run, but at the time of the switch caused some problems. Late metal minis often look better than early plastic ones. This is kind of a problem when gw introduces updated minis, because why would you buy a new version of the stuff that you already own that just looks worse? And I don't mean stylistically, just mechanically worse. So in response gw upped army sizes to try and squeeze money from veteran players, but also scaring off potential new blood, beginning the "death spiral" if we're being dramatic.
Or so I've been told, what the fuck do I know.

That's exactly what my problem was, mind you I basically popped my cherry on actually playing as an excuse to buy more minis and justify it but that's a whole other issue. I think they're stupid as fuck thinking that they could get away with just sanding everything down too a smooth little ball and think that's gonna turn out okay, maybe as like a "we're back to 1st edition" level jumping off point. But even then there's still lots of people who played and enjoy the fucking game who aren't happy with this bullshit.

a mix of not really a lot of models, the models themselves being kinda small (keep in mind those are grots, so they're half as big as you think they are), all of those units were also very bad and got several points decreases so as far as filling out an army goes you get almost nothing (its 530 pts total, 200 of which is just the underworlds warband repurposed, and overall about 30% fewer points than most spearheads), plus the gitmob stuff is just terrible on the table even after multiple consecutive points drops and buffs. they're pillow fisted, fragile, lack good interactions synergies or buffs, just not good at all as units and a subfaction.

ogres and blightkings are both in the luxurious position of being on 40mm bases. so much of the game is on 40mm bases that even if they were to outright squat maggotkin and ogres as an army and just remove them all together, you could still just as easily take the models and run them as ironjawz brutes or chaos chosen respectively. as long as your shit isnt on 25mm or some wonky large base size like 60mm or an oval of some kind, you have a ton of proxy options throughout the game, so GW can never really squat dudes you already own.
the only trick is actually getting the models you want from the store before they remove the kits, if in fact thats what they end up doing. and even then there are a boatload of ogres and maggotkin models on secondary markets like trolltrader for cheap. even with the tarrif nonsense its still probably cheaper than retail.

IIRC those don't really exist in the modern era. One of the tragedies of the War of Life was that any sylvaneth who either wasn't a warrior or couldn't become one ended up eradicated. Originally only the forest folk like dryads weren't expected to do any fighting, that was for the noble spirits and free spirits to handle. But in the present every single one of them is expected to be a warrior in addition to whatever else they do, meaning they are proportionally more militarized than Sigmar's whole empire.

I'm not entirely sure. It might just simply be the lack of chaos iconography like arrows and stars. Oh, and a weird absence of axes; what's up with that? There's like one in the HoH range and it's certainly not the iconic half-serrated design.

I want it noted for the record that not all the five vampiric dynasties represented by the various bespoke character models in Soulblight Gravelords have their own respective paint scheme.

They were literally all subfactions until 4E gutted subfactions, though? They had the most defined subfactions rules of any army in 3E
It's just in 4E you're not allowed to have lore connected subfactions, so they're all just random bullshit no one remembers or cares about.

I think the Lore reason for the lack of axes is that Axes are a weapon of Grimnir, and as these guys have turned their face away from the Anseostor Gods so they started using other weapons.

Ehhhh OBR can give out a buff a phase for free to everyone wholly within 12, you don't have to balance a resource every turn (and once you get engaged you might suddenly lose your access to the Desolation tokens to get DPP).

The heads of the monster riders are already smaller than the current guys' and any potential difference wouldn't be noticed in the slightest because they're not placed side by side at the same level but mounted on the monster

Where did you people get the idea that there are going to be any riders in the release? they are slightly beastclaw themed, because of the Hunters unit, but the resit is all gutbusters as far as i understand

The desolation tokens just require you to cap it once, you don't have to keep control of it.
There's a command ability and other ways to hand out DPP. It's not that big of a deal to get it rolling honestly, and if you have a decent amount of game knowledge you can predict where you're going to need it most.
The OBR battle trait is really overrated. The 5+ ward is only for combat and only half the times do you get to avoid combat mortals with it because you activate it after you enemies abilities in combat. +1 wound when most of your units are wounding on 4's anyways, +1 save when many are on 4+, +2" move when many are conveniently 2" slower than other units.
Retreat and charge is really the beneficial one but not really a benefit when your cav cost more than other equivalent cav with those bonuses baked in.
So in the end it's more of a break-even or minor buff, in exchange for being worse than many other elite factions per point and restricting your movement.

Wait I just re read the article.
So it says at the start of a turn if you aren't in combat OR contesting terrain, you get a desolation token.
You are saying you don't lose the desolation token once you get it?
So at the start of the first game turn, when nothing is in combat, everyone just gets one, you hold it the rest of the game, and you can keep cashing it in for DPP?
Fucking stupid

> OBR trait is overrated
Sadly yes
> 5+ Ward only for combat
Unfortunately yes...
> Only half the times do you get to avoid combat mortals
What the fuck are you talking about. You always get to turn it on before they use a fight ability. Or are you talking about shit like rampages and shitty 'on a 3+ do d3 MW' shit (which you shouldn't care about for 90% of them)
> +1 w when mostly on 4s
That makes it an actually valuable ability
> +1 save
That's not a relentless discipline ability that's a Katakross CP ability, and it's insane you brush that off, 4+ to 3+ is huge
> +2 move, some of your guys are slow
I mean that still makes it very valuable then.
> Retreat and Charge good
Yeah, it's just bullshit it doesn't ignore the MWs like 99% of the other retreat and charge abilities in the game
> It's break even or minor
It's huge for the army even if it isn't as mechanically powerful as other abilities in other armies
