My buddy is setting up a horror themed game of zone mortalis where a ghastly ghoul that I'm tentatively calling the flesh-dog will be a third "player" randomly jumping out of the shadows to rip people apart.
I got tasked with making it so I'm bulking it up right now. For the face I'm thinking of trying to model a human face stretched backwards but we'll see.
The whole thing is gonna be very nasty, I want it to look like a human body reshaped via hammer to become a quadruped.

Played a 7-hour game today, Loyalist(?) AL vs Traitor TS
>Headhunters, despite not doing anything, spooked my opponent and locked down half his board
>Volkpred cooked a tac squad and they spent most of the game routed
>Learneans fought Khentai squad for 4 consequecutive combats, and if I had remembered they had hatred I probably could have swept despite being outnumbered by both models and attacks
>Funbus got broken mortars turn 2, very sad
>Militia troop actually came in clutch as when the re-entered via Endless Horde I put them close enough to an objective abandoned by routed tacs to scare
>I conceded the final turn since my 4th ended with me 23-20 and my opponent could score 8 during his turn
Very fun. I'm thinking about converting a cata champ to part with the Lerneans. Also, do you keep your praetor hidden or not? My opponent always keeps his Ahriman way in the back behind cover.

It's almost completely unchanged in 3.0 except for losing two shots (out of twelve) on the move and no longer having rending to help against light vehicles. It should still be a pretty good anti-meq unit.
dreads no longer having ws5/bs5 + weapons having damage values now mean a dreadnought is always going to be a suboptimal pick but they're insanely cool models (cl10). I'll be bringing a double c-fist one for anti-tank

I think there's a possible case for Interdiction Cadre if you want to drop a bunch of volley-firing Sons of Horus or Fast (2) World Eaters right into optimal range, but generally, yeah.

WE are odd ones here because if you already have Malefic everywhere and +2 to charging thanks to Angron you may as well take the Loyalist trait instead of The Nails' Bite, since you don't need the status clear/resist from that bonus and Incarnate Violence gives you +1A more reliably plus a better gambit.

The "loyalist" trait feels better in general, a lot more reliable than having to lose half your squad to get a similar boost.

I wonder why only 2 legions got double traits? aside from the other two monogod legions, you could probably have a Luna Wolves trait and an Imperial Heralds trait. The other legions don't change that much.

On the loyalist side, you could probably have SoH-lite RG, crazy cannibal or black rage BA, and shattered IH

i think it has some overlap with how far gone some of the legions became and maybe more specifically, those that actually had the most congruence with chaos patrons
the death guard kinda didn't really shift around too much in doctrine once they were full-blown pox oozing bloated up and blessed motherfuckers besides standing and taking even more punishment than prior to put down or so is the sense i get
the thousand sons were decimated and raped from the outset and their real 'fall' was yet unfolding in the form of the rubric marines as best i understand all throughout the conflict, atop the factors of their inclinations to tzeentch really just aligning with escalating psychic capacity and such which they're already built upon
EC? represent a real, real, very fucking serious and pointed waning of grace as it were in the form they had adopted by the later days
similarly, the totally rampant, tsunami-like despoiler tides of the eaters of the more advanced stages once angron had been given over and all that is a d r a s t i c shift even for the XII and would be similar to the example of the third legion in that respect
sons of bodt frankly doesn't encompass it so well but i lean towards the more doctrinal 'loyalist' (as if) flavor anyhow in how my dudes are being arranged

A number of reasons. For starters, the profit margin on plastic characters is rather low due to mould costs. Most players will also only ever buy one of a character, compared to something like a box of tacs which most players will buy multiples of. Plus, all the big name characters are already in, so either you make up randoms or pull out some obscure ones that only book readers will recognize, either way there's mot that big of a draw compared to generic customizable ones, some players might even dislike playing with unique dudes in general. And this is personal opinion, but it feels like characters are mutually exclusive in player's lists unless they want to reenact a specific battle from the lore, which I'm betting is the minority. Most players don't want a third of their points taken up by the whole avengers crew, they just take their praetor +1 character and that's it. And there's the whole lore contrivance thing of "you're telling me Abaddon, Maloghurst, Little Horus, and the true sons guy were all in the same battle?

you definitely have the angle about how to do it. it's not nothing. they're some further increment of magnitude totally fucked out in the convergence with nurgle relative to a bog-ass line marine in being effectively pseudozombie transhuman technoalchemical homunculi.
they're also all basically tripping their balls off or so i think the picture is painted as a further consequence of all of this so i'd also like there to be a minor malus of some kind to play with for texture alongside as well
things could be made to do up some sorcerer cadre thing for the TS as well concerning some early puppetting around of brothers slipping away idk how appropriate that would be though i only know that they're kangz and one dude had his helmet punched in by a bunch of giddy eaters scavenging over tizca

Fuck it, I attempted to make lists in trying to use the bulk of their contents and decide on a legion (and also drive model acquisition some more), not the most creative seeing Cataphractii + Spartan from the former naturally leads into an obligatory deathstar when less turns doesn't help, but whatever. There are many things I'm not sure on and both likely have gaping holes somewhere, things are a bit funky because I'm trying to use both dreads, and it will ultimately be legion one or the other; may I get some feedback?

AL list looks fine, consider taking nuncio voxes on the tacs. Keep in mind power swords are never worth it, if you want AP3 at initiative you take a single lightning claw which costs the same and is objectively better. Your IW list has terrible detachment usage, you use your apex det for a single war engine slot and then prime in a retinue slot? Why not use the retinue apex which gives you a prime on the dominators, and use LB for the war engine? And why are you making the saturnines expendable? Also, for the saturnine i strongly advice to use different weapons, though if you're limited to what comes in the box then you don't really have a choice

The one thing about both lists I was wondering, AL more specifically - was in regards to whether to take lascannon Predators or Rapiers. The costs are the same with two teams of two carriers on the latter, but I imagine it's very much give & take for either solution.

>Why not use the retinue apex which gives you a prime on the dominators, and use LB for the war engine?
IW list was probably me just getting lost with the system a bit, but as far as New Recruit goes, supposedly LB is only relevant once per detachment (ie no double-upping on it with the primary)? If that limitation is a real thing, then with Apex Retinue there's still 2x LB, and without Hammer of Olympia I'd have to figure where either the Saturnine Terminators or the Spartan are going, or ditch the former and do something else. Without a champ like the other list, it's not exactly the most elegant. God I wish Heavy Support was 2x walkers.
>And why are you making the saturnines expendable?
Admittedly this was an oversight.
>Also, for the saturnine i strongly advice to use different weapons, though if you're limited to what comes in the box then you don't really have a choice

>Rapiers vs Preds
For AL I'd go Rapiers, for IW I'd go preds. This is because legion trait affects rapiers but not vehicles. Either way it's a matter of taste really
Anonymous No.96539579 [Report]

That makes sense to me. In any case I'll probably lean towards doing AL for now if I can't find a way to immediately vindicate the Saturnine termies, which might involve taking out the Vindicator for another character, dunno what. Guess we'll also have to see if the command squad rules for them are any good later.

modified maschinen krieger hardsuit-looking tactical marines !
just a few though, one each for a couple of squads and one with a missile launcher for appending to a veteran group with two of said weapons
heavily rebuilt line troopers if asked, and besides that, lots of resemblance in archetype to the likes of the marauder suits in some earlier starship troopers renditions! very much its own flavor and a good bit more brutal tho.

I've played all three edition, and 2.0 is easily my least favourite. There just didn't seem any reason to try anything else than dreadnoughts, thunder hammers, scorpius, and the other meta picks, because of how much more efficient those were than anything else. Plus rules that felt like exploits, like brutal and sniper being guaranteed.
Yes 1.0 had issues too, but at least there were multiple variations of cheese you could bring.

NTA, but just houserule stuff for 1.0 or 2.0, it is not hard. My groups fixes are like one paragraph.

I particularly liked Movement characteristics, the USR's having variation like "Rule (X)" was good, and my friends and I liked Surge moves (We had been wanting such a thing for at least a decade).

It just needed a 2.5 tweaking for things like Brutal and to have units and wargear brought in from 1.0 and whatnot. But they didn't do that and now we're here in trashland. I've played Heresy since the black books and there's always issues, but this new edition is a soulless pile of shit.

NTA, but 2.0 still feels like Heresy, and 3.0 doesn't.
There are a lot of problems with the rules it balance and support wise, but at it's core there was the makings of a good edition, and it still mostly played like 3rd-7th ed 40k.
3.0 has "less problems", but it doesn't feel like 30k. It plays more like a later edition on 40k and quite frankly they took the most retarded approaches to fix the problems with 2.0, which ultimately make the edition even more unwieldy and awkward IMO. It's also an edition well and truly built on GW lies and bullshit, more than even 2.0.
But 1.0 is still the undisputed best edition.

3.0 threw the baby out with the bathwater. We replaced balance issues with an overhauled ruleset that has significantly cut away the customization options that made for interesting and fluffy lists like Rites of War or whole swathes of wargear. Nta but I thinks reactions were a cool thing to add to the game. Added a new tactical layer with baiting out reactions and saving them up for key units. They were overtuned, sure, but everyone having access to the same ones except for the single unique one each faction got made it so there wasnt the same kind of feel bad gotchas stratagems of 40k, while still keeping you way more involved in your opponents turn.
I think balance was better than in 1.0, despite how much anons bitch about dreads, lascannons and thunderhammers.

>Discover the origins of the distinctive Saturnine-pattern Terminator armour and Dreadnought in the next Journal Tactica, The Forges of Saturn. This 48-page supplement reveals the early use of Saturnine technology in the Great Crusade and Vulkan’s later efforts to revitalise the designs, including how each of the other 17 Legions reacted to the Primarch’s gift before Horus began his fateful rebellion.

>Alongside the new and expanded lore, this book contains rules for three new units – equipping Centurions and Command Squads in Saturnine armour and giving the Word Bearers a unique daemon-infused Terminator unit – and a new Prosperine arcana for the Thousand Sons. It also includes a new Legendary Mission depicting the Salamanders’ assault on the Death Guard’s fortified positions during the Dropsite Massacre, and three new asymmetric Onslaught Missions that task players with attacking their opponent’s defensive lines.*

Seconding >>96541523 with the Mhara Gal, its just a solid block of stats and needs no real support.

I think taking legion-specific terminators can still have legs, but they have to be capable of specific things that Lernaeans aren't rather than just being better punchy guys, because Lerns are just great even when built relatively cheap. I'm personally fond of Crimson Paladins, since they are essentially melee Lernaeans - they have the same Line 1, they deep strike so they don't need a transport, they have a heavy ranged weapon and they're hard as nails with their FNP and EW1 shields, although sadly two of them in a squad of five are stuck with shitty power swords and they don't have BA Impact (S). Huscarls are a more expensive version of the same thing, just termies that punch extra hard and come with EW/Deep Strike.

I also don't think there's anything wrong with Sunkillers, since they appreciate the AL legion rule and otherwise they're just more killy HSS marines.

Tartaros existed in 40k as just an alternative model for terminators without the ability to sweep right up until the plastic kit was given token rules. And after a while it got rolled in with cataphractii as relic terminators, both having normal terminator stats along with indomitus. And when tartaros could sweep in 40k, it most certainly wasn't "regular terminator armour".

I liked the fact, that I could give me heroes weapons that matched the force theme. I was thinking for a second about buying land speeders to make it more optimal, I did cave in and bought a Space Mongolian King on Jetbike for my force. 3.0 kind of a did away with all the things I liked in the game, cost me losing models and made my army borderline unfun to play. Is that enough reason to not like 3ed? And I am still better off then two of my friends, as post PDF I can make a legal army. I find out that my nephews cut off the barrels of auto cannons that were on the sprues, some they just broke off. After asking them what they did find out, that after they did it they were scared what would happen so they threw away the parts and, as it was recycling day, mom sent my father to throw out all plastics. So now I have 4 potential auto canon and 6 destroyed ones.
I had friends whose mothers and wifes threw out their "bags of plastic left overs". Destroyed models while cleaning, which then they masked with throwing them out, because "he has so many he is not going to notice" etc.

To play the devil's advocate, but that has been a thing in real life. S-tank has the gun fixed to the hull with aiming done by rotating the tank and tilting it up and down via hydraulic suspension. M3 Lee had a pair of .30 caliber machine guns next to the driver that he could control the elevation of, but to aim them side to side, he had to turn the tank. Of course this was terrible and the guns were axed, but the mounts of them were left behind (usually welded shut).

Maybe the new Fellblade is Lucius pattern? The FW Lucius pattern Baneblade also had a similar style demolisher with no obvious way to traverse it.

Vehicles where there's only really one big gun (Dracosan, various tank hunters) it doesn't really matter, since turning the tank wouldn't screw with other guns. For example, on the M3 the driver turning left and right to spray some infantry with machine guns would fuck over the 75mm and 37mm guns, as they'd have to constantly correct their aim.

A demolisher cannon is very short ranged compared to the fellblade cannon though. If its being used to do something other than clear the path it could be used as the primary weapon, and its fire rate is going to be quite low so its use isn't going to be as disruptive.

Without gun depression the only way you can hit stuff at a lower elevation than you is by counting on projectile drop.
However this is not exactly convenient for one, and for two the Fellblade has an accelerator autocannon (which I assume means it uses railgun tech) so the trajectory would be super flat, as represented by its 100" range, which would make this even shittier to try an pull off.
It's really stupid to have blocked that off and just adds on more stupid shit to an already impractical design.

Are we to also believe that bolters can somehow carry 30 .75 caliber rounds in such a small magazine?

It's possible the model has limited depression so that you can't accidentally model it pointing down, if you want to leave it able to move, it won't droop down over time, or something similar.
>>96546936
It's good to remember than in real life gun depression isn't that huge of an issue. It's good to have some, but a tank with less depression isn't automatically worse than a tank with more depression. Unlike in a video game, in real life you can do a lot of things to work around poor depression.

Depends on the magazine. Also, a lot of bolter magazines are pretty fat, so they could easily be quad-stacked.

Only if you do a lot of mental gymnastics and assumptions, rather than just taking the numbers as physical thickness, which is actually verified, for example, in the Land Raider stats.

In a video game the games are set on the same maps with similar vehicles over and over again. People figure out where the best spots are and often terrain features can be exaggerated. You're also lacking a lot of the other elements that go into combat, it's not just tonks on tonks.

Possibly. Rivets flying around inside warships is a documented occurrence, but ships are also less cramped and have redundant crew, so one rivet with the energy of a .45 flying around cant kill 25% or more of the crew. Tanks combine highly confined spaces, small crews, and high energy impacts so the power and effect is pretty much maximized.

Nu-scouts with 30k era lightning claws should work for these fine, right? They're in scale with the new Mk2/Mk3/Mk6 and don't have any of the primaris design language anywhere, I think.

>We used to rivet ships too and started welding them mainly because it was faster and cheaper.
It was weight. Welding on an armored ship gives a weight reduction between 10-15%, which means more tonnage can be allocated to armor/engines/weapons etc

You don't wear plate armour against your skin or light clothing. You have layers of stuff behind it to catch any pieces that might break off. Marines get shot with future heavy weapons and wear the armour naked.

That too, but early welding technology was also expensive and time consuming on such scale, so you have to ask yourself if that 15% weight reduction is worth the extra time and cost to produce and maintain.

Hand-crafted gas system which minimises recoil, self-lubricating and cleaning mechanisms for extended battlefield use, piezoelectric molecular bonding in the grip activated by squeezing so it's impossible to drop the gun accidentally, high quality internal cogitator datalinked to the armor servo system automatically compensating for movement, electric ammo feed that clears obstructions more reliably, internal gyroscope for stabilisation, multi ammo feed letting the user select between ammo types in a single multi stacked magazine Lawgiver style, small power weapon blade for melee, extremely rapid burst fire mode where three rounds exit the barrel before it raises at all, suit-linked beamriding seeker ammo that can be directed with the shooter's gaze.

Yes, why would anyone think the dark part on a marine's torso with plugs would be the Black Carapace, a black plastic film implanted under the marine's skin with plugs cut into it? Also, why is it only on the torso and why isn't it ribbed?
