I like conditional unagingness or age reversal powers a lot.
It's the CYOAs job to push the player to be as active as possible and to get into troubles, not just hide away in some real or fantasy basement. And vampirism (assuming only lethal drinking counts) is one great avenue for it. And unagingness is both an obviously desirable prize, and can also promise the adventure and the troubles scale bigger and bigger forever,

CYOAs are for the same thing that any creative expression is for: to move someone in some way. It really can't be reduced more than that.

The medium is particularly good at moving you in certain ways -- stimulating imagination, eliciting feelings of satisfaction that come with solving problems -- but if a CYOA succeeds in moving you in another way, it still fulfilled its purpose. Even a shitpost CYOA designed solely to get another anon mad does its job if it gets another anon mad. I'll probably dislike it and think it's ugly, but it did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Let's get cracking. Since it's a two person party I'm mainly taking up a majority of the work myself. Packed all the essentials, being mainly tools for the road. Woodworking and fine machinery are two vital parts of my skillset with a dab of marksmanship and some more pleasant homesteading skills to keep ourselves well maintained. Mainly looking to make myself a fine fortress on this here frontier, and while I was tempted to take the Whalebone to triple down on the reliability of my not so humble abode, I decided that my work could stand for itself. Maybe it would have been wiser to go for the Corn Dolly or the Farmer's Almanac but I can't pass up a bag that can hold more stuff.

Since I can only rely on one other soul during this trip, I think going for the best only makes sense. I was tempted to take A Well Chosen Location, but she'll do for getting me to where I need to be best. We're most likely going to run into some lean times but once we make it there it'll be the high life, mainly resting on my shoulders for the upkeep architecturally and agriculturally. It's tough work but someone's gotta do it. Not too pleased with the complications for this trip but the roar of steam and this little kitty keeps most of them at bay. Haven't confronted what the Omen has out for me but after I post I'll take a look and decide what my fate is. Regardless of what happens, I'm sure that the foundations I'll build will outlast me by many generations.

Welp, that sucks, especially since being very productive is sort of the gameplan. But judging by the rest of the omens it could be a lot worse since a few of those attack even greater weakpoints that I have. It'll definitely be a pain in the ass and we are definitely going to have some lean times now for sure, but I think we'll make it through alright. Long as Irene keeps us on course and I keep the wheels turning, I think we'll manage to get there and establish a claim before the world gets to claim us instead.

Definitely wish I had at least one other person I could bring, Mr Henderson would have been nice for farming, but who knows maybe with a bit of effort and some time I could make a road to make travel to the claim possible between trade routes. Heck, could even get a railroad started with all the lumber around, although the idea of clearing a path through all these trees is seemingly more folly than planning this trip in the first place. Who knows though, there just might be a path Irene could find for it.

There is no indication as to her age or that she is immortal.

Even as a sorceress she could have most of the Powers other than Necromancy and Consortation with the 13+12 that she'd get.

Sigh - that's part of what makes Traveler's Tale 2 depressing for me. How did Highlander phrase it? We were born too late to explore the Earth, too soon to explore the stars, and are stuck in crappy jobs that waste our talents, just to get enough money to ignore the problem for a while. . . with little chance to make our mark in a cause we believe in.

I think that's why I enjoy isekai cyoas so much. Many of the worlds are in desperate need of new ideas and outside help, places where we wouldn't be "surplus".

But enough of this idle speculation, we must arrive first. Travelling by waters lets Phyllis constantly augment our Rations with her catches while I parley meals from the natives for trinkets and doctoring along the way. Hans is a glutton but his suitably-directed strength when will prove the backbone of Mineral extraction on arrival. The engine will pump the deeper shafts dry (a fine trip hammer too!) while I smith the metal back into spare parts, trade goods and muskets. The Parrot is a calling card of sorts, a "magic bird" cementing me as "witch doctor" among the natives as much as healing, "iron horse" and metalwork knowledge. It's a good way to ostentatiously broker an understanding between tribes.

Unfortunately the Natives aren't the only one to take note of our odd mascot. Several birds of prey have decided it looks delectable and spirits seem as intent on plucking colourful feathers as they at chewing on the Engine. Witchshot x 11 + Mitigating Grip x 2 so I can lug around a fucking cannon and be a better siege witch than Aes could ever be. Taexx handles the maladies and also is probably getting husbando'd if I had any say about it. Witchshot Autoantecedence be "It is not necessary to reload your weapon after shooting, so long as you do not see where the ammunition is loaded. Normally, Witchshot should only be limited to two iterations. Spiderhalf increases it to a maximum of 12, but Canon only goes for 10. Autoantecedence allows you to boost a two iteration into a three iteration. "Bad" is in the eye of the beholder, but yes. The most recent one that I'm aware of is Womb Tattoo - which is way, way too NSFW to be posted on a blue board. One of the /trash regulars decided he could do a much better version of the (then) WIP Womb Tattoo cyoa, recut and reedited the WIP pages that had already been shared to the thread, and posted his "better" version pretty much the same day the original author released their finished version.

Oddly enough, the author of the second version claims that using the exact same art, title, and layouts wasn't meant as a huge screw-you to the original author. He just thought he could do the whole thing "better"" and wanted to see it done "right".

Anon may have meant it sarcastically, but the /trash thread might well be your best option for gay characters in a cyoa. For obvious reasons, their cyoas are much more sex-focused.

As for why there aren't more gay-focused, cyoas, well, there's an obvious demographic bias. Last time I saw numbers, only 10% of the population think of themselves as gay/lesbian. If we assume our authors follow that demographic distribution, then most cyoas are going to have a strong heterosexual focus, as most of our authors ultimately write for themselves.

The lack of good husbandos is a bit more of a mystery. Even female authors like AngelAnon (the original from years ago) and Aromage have primarily written up waifus. Maybe it's a Sappho of Lesbos thing, where they may be writing to the "traditional" audience, even if it doesn't match their preferences?

Thrallherd intended to do a revised version of Conduit, but never got around to it. Even discussed the changes with us in depth.

FriendlyDrop wrote Awakening based on those posts, after Thrallherd disappeared on us. So while it's not by the same author, Conduit Awakening is reasonably close to the author's vision for the updated version.

(Like adding the sandworms to Polyamora, and giving it an addiction angle, beyond just being sex 24/7)

But it is a different author, with a different style. And I'm not sure if Thrallherd ever officially signed off on Awakening.

Apparently Thrallherd still lurks, or at least swings by occasionally. One night, a couple of us were discussing older cyoas, talking about some of the odder implications, and the idea of Conduits hiring interns came up. You know, for the worlds where some extra manpower would be really helpful, even if the interns didn't have any special abilities of their own. The interns get to have an offworld adventure, the Conduits get some help, everyone wins, right?

(My thought was Gesmene - the Victorian steampunk world - would be good for that. Doesn't take any special gifts to look through desks and filing cabinets for old papers, and Gesmene conduits need them for their abilities.)

We moved on to other topics, but a couple of weeks later, right before Christmas, Thrallherd turned up with Cyprian's Otherworldly Academy. Sort of his own spin on the idea, or maybe great minds think alike.

At the time, he also seemed enthusiastic about finally finishing the Conduit update. Talked about how he was tweaking some of the names (such as Aether becoming Ayther), to make it easier to defend a copyright claim.

Unfortunately, nothing came of it. He posted for a couple of days, and then went quiet again. But hey, we got a new Conduit one pager out of it - and we can always hope for more.

His place on Yest' was taking by Eros and his unorthodox approach to seducing Charlie. Imagine her face if she could read that build.
