Lots of Legions stuff should be hitting soon, I even just got my own AS6 figures in hand. Savage Crucible's stuff is also getting into more hands and I'm hoping to build my barbarian horde some more with their in-stock sale. But I'm most excited about finally getting the one and only Conan of Cimmeria! (who will actually be my third Conan, but who's counting)

Who do you got pre-order? Which Lines you most excited about? How many Conans are you gonna buy?

Uh, that's a UNICORN, thank you very much! fr though, the unicorn was WAY to easy to collect. I always liked the hypothesis that the unicorn was just Europeans misunderstanding what a rhino was, so I figured I'd track down one of THOSE instead as a stand-in!

The lizard is supposed to be a salamander. It's a set from Frozen 2, (the ONLY disney set I own,) because I really liked how that legend was represented in that movie, (even IF the rest was mid.) However the set had no fire coming out of it, so I had to improvise a way to make it BREATH the flame that was included in the set to invoke salamander imagery. I got it to stick to the wall with a lego plate that does that for some reason. Unfortunately when I moved I couldn't put those two shelves together, so the salamander is no longer part of the display :(

What I'm saying is that before, we used to get a dozen figures in a span of a couple of months vs 1 today. You can point toward all the upcoming figures and think that's a lot in total, but it really isn't when compared to the past, when fantasy media was being heavily pushed.
And that's part of my initial complaint about there being any good fantasy lines anymore, because there's no push for fantasy toylines. Where's house of dragons? Wheel of time? Witcher? Rings of Power? Sandman? All of these would have been auto-picked up by toy stores pre-2016. That War of Rohan movie barely got a blip of a toyline and only as budgetshit, because stores don't want to carry shit anymore.

There was always weird shit like this coming out before. Something like this isn't medieval fantasy, but it fits right in. Lots of variety.

Nevermind those dozens of figures were easily found in thousands of stores, whether they were comic shops or walmarts.

Either A.) I want the figure and have to spend like, 150$ to get it,
Or B.) I buy one of the figures I want, and am now stuck with a bull leg or a robot fist or some bullshit that doesn't even GO to anything! Like, the fuck do I do with it?

Everything you say is wrong. The amount of fantasy figures we get these days dwarfs even when toys were more prolific on shelves. You just don't like them because they're mostly original figure lines and not based on pre-existing media. Mythic Legions alone has put out more figures and figure variety then any mass media based fantasy franchise in the past 30 years.

>>11498904
I hate that gimmick so much, especially when it's included in a crappy toyline like the War of Roharim 5 PoA garbage. Even the Diamond Select LotR line did that with Sauron, which was also a pretty jank line. At least they dropped the gimmick for the second wave, but by that point the line was pretty much dead. The Orcs and Goblins were pretty good, but the rest of the figures really felt dated and poorly designed.

Biblical Adventures by d13 toys. They even have two packs in various colors, though I'm not sure if they're any cheaper then just buying two figures. Interesting concept, but not a perfect line. I kinda wanna get the Roman soldier to mix with my Roman Soldiers from other lines and have a weird mixed group of very different yet similar soldiers.

>All of these would have been auto-picked up by toy stores pre-2016.
Not necessarily. Apart from Lego, the Hobbit toys flopped so bad that Desolation of Smaug barely got 10 figures, and Battle of Five Armies didn't get shit, mainly because the movies didn't manage to capture the audience like LotR did.
Let's go through the franchises you mentioned.
>Where's house of dragons?
Last two seasons of GoT shitting the bed and all that pegwarming Funko shit left licensees unwilling to touch that potential bonfire.
>Wheel of time?
Unproven property whose tv show ended up like the series author. Also character designs aren't very toyetic.
>Witcher?
We got pegwarming McFarlane crap and another tv show that turned to garbage, but we are still getting an overpriced Figma with no alt faces if you want.
>Rings of Power?
Toy execs actually paid attention to the canary in the coalmine.
>Sandman?
Really a shame because it really does have interesting character designs, but the main audience spend all their money at Hot Topic trying to look like Lydia Deetz. Also since Gaiman is an analrapist, toy company execs are breathing a sigh of relief.
>There was always weird shit like this coming out before.
The biggest difference between Golden Compass and your list is that it was aimed at kids, and was more fantasy adventure than fantasy drama or dark fantasy like everything you mentioned.
You know what is selling in thousands of stores as we speak? How to Train Your Dragon. A fantasy adventure with interesting designs that translate well to toys.
Also, all that Golden Compass, Narnia and Hobbit shit going to clearance probably made the big companies weary of backing anything risky in the genre.
Anonymous No.11499046 [Report] >>11499165
>>11499019
>Also, all that Golden Compass, Narnia and Hobbit shit going to clearance probably made the big companies weary of backing anything risky in the genre.
Entirely missing my point, because despite all this stuff going on clearance, stores were still ordering line after line after line, hence getting a dozen figures every new movie/tv season.
Narnia shit didn't do well and Prince Caspian bombing at stores didn't stop them from ordering Golden Compass toys. Golden Compass toys bombing didn't stop them from ordering The Hobbit toys.
There was a multitude of toylines being produced back then, just because they had a media tie in. So even shit like Heroes, Gotham, Castlevania, got toylines, just because they were on TV.

Today, they're avoiding nearly everything and ignoring how even more popular video games have become. You're right, they're not taking chances anymore, and that's still entirely my point, hence not finding as many good fantasy lines anymore.

>>11498997
>You just don't like them because they're mostly original figure lines and not based on pre-existing media.
They're just so generic, which is a big problem i have. They don't actually want to be "original" but instead trying to do ripoff designs like Heman shit, which 4H is super guilty of, and avoid. Ironically, the overused 50 year old IPs look more original than original lines.
Also, i avoid third party/chinese lines, because practically everyone has brittle problems with them. The old 1/12/Clothes General proved that and people in these threads constantly post their figures breaking too. A mainstream toy company would do better, but retailers aren't buying up any toy tie-in anymore, so mainstream companies aren't making them anymore.

>>11498997
it's a gimmick, but it solved a problem that we used to have: stores weren't ordering large figures. So we finally were able to get oversized figures that previously weren't abe to be made.

Most places will return/replace figures, or you might even be able to get replacement parts from Mezco themselves if they're anything like most indy companies are. I know I've gotten replacement parts from both Savage Crucible and Plunderlings for missing/broken parts, and the 4H always replace pieces for figures if something breaks or is messed up.

>>11499284
That's a lot of Enochs, guess you'll have options of how to display him. I just got mine but haven't opened him yet, but I didn't realize just how ornate his armor is. I feel like the soft goods are covering up just how impressive of a figure he really is.

>>11499706
That sounds real neat actually, it's absurd how rare generic ninja and samurai are in toy form. Outside of a few random chinese offerings and that one Fwoosh line, you don't see many actual Samurai figure.

Though the ghosts and yokai will probably be the most impressive, if those demon's of his are anything to go by.

I honestly don't know, I never did a SC in stock sale. But if they handle their barbarians in the same way they did their lizard men, I'm sure they'll drop new ones randomly throughout the year. I doubt it, the FG guy seemed singularly focused on his work on that Conan they're putting out. I think it's more a case of all the source material being so similar.

Also, is this the first instance of a Conan figure packing heat? There seems to be some sort of exclusive version that's just loaded with accessories from other REH characters, and most of em work fine but that pistol stands out a little.

I mean, I'd display him with gat in hand, but it's not exactly something I'd expect to see being wielded by a barbarian.

Does slime counts as fantasy general? I'm more interested in anime style fantasy, I collect bunch of medieval looking anime characters from lines like Figma Fate, Sword Art, and FOTM isekai without really knowing the source material just to mix/match them as OC characters.

I'm looking for a staple in anime fantasy which are the lvl. 1 slimes - but these are surprisingly hard to find. Any recommendations? Lots of people have 3d printed them, so I'm thinking of dipping my toes in 3d print these basic slime features, but I'm a bit confused why these are mostly PLA prints instead of resin prints

All fantasy figures are welcomed here, whether they be western or eastern based characters. Swords, sorcery, warlocks and warriors are all allowed to share their tales in this thread.

As for slimes, maybe check out Dragon Quest stuff, I doubt there's any actual toyline featuring em, but I'm sure there's some sort of Gashapon or claw machine line of slime toys out there. Otherwise, that's something that'd probably more common as an accessory to various figures then a stand alone item itself.

She's a SE Bring Arts, they did the dragoon guy from XIV as well iirc. She's a decent figure, but very much an early Bring Arts, so she has her issues. But at the time she was the closest thing released to a FFXI Mithra so I needed to get her....also she was a super useful unit in WoTV when I started.

I did actually play XIV too...but I just do not gel with that game.

I don't know why they gave it no butterfly joints, though. Since they are asking for 40$ for this, they could have given it something that even their 25$ MLs and G.I Joes already have.

The Horseclaw from Nausicaa? As cool as it is, and as much as I respect Nausicaa as a franchise, I don't have enough personal nostalgia for it to pay the prices they were asking. All the figures Kaiyodo put out for it were really cool, but they are just far too pricey for something I only had a passing interest in.

In contrast, I put near ten years into playing FFXI, and that one *never* got any good merch, so it was a no brainer for me to grab the Chocobo from it in hopes more figures from that game would get made. Sadly it, and my next favorite FF game, VI, just seem to get no love from SE proper. At least I got Agrias and Ramza from FFT.

This would be cooler if the pet wasn't a giant static hunk of plastic. It's the same thing that pushed me away from Teegra, at these prices, I'd much rather have less accessories and an articulated companion, or lower price without the companion.

Maybe it's because the initial waves were kind of same-y for most figures, or maybe it's because it's not as hard to come across sci-fi looking figures in this size, but Cosmic just hasn't hit as hard as Mythic for me. I mean, I still do have about a dozen of em, so it still did hit, but my Cosmic collection is nothing compared to my Mythic, Hell, I bought some Cosmic characters just to pop and swap them into my Mythic lineup.

I also kind of feel space figures need ships and vehicles more then fantasy figures need mounts and large monsters. While we've actually gotten the latter in mythic, I highly down we'll even see that for Cosmic. It kinda sucks to build a space pirate crew but not have a ship for them to pirate things from.
Anonymous No.11511344 [Report]
>>11511190
I don't know if I'd say they need it *more* but they definitely need it just as much which is a lot. This is ultimately why the larger scale is a failure to me- yeah it's cool to have a $800 fuck huge dragon and massive armies but it's just not practical. I could afford it if I wanted to buy who has the space for that that isn't just crammed into a crowded shitty looking collection room?

Anyway my size gripes aside I think that world building is important in any line, and cosmic would greatly benefit by larger items to build out the world. Give me some cyberpunk convenience store counter with some goods and a robo clerk to run it. Give me some cool hoverbikes. That large trailer vehicle they showed off at legions con looked *okay* but felt overly large with not really enough going on to justify it's existence. It was like a space dune buggy and had a cool skull strapped to the front, but then there's two other fuck huge flatbed trailers on the back just cutting around gas cans. Kind of boring for something that would have to be $500. I'd rather see a snubnose space fighter but I guess you can't stand 10 figures on it so it's not as appealing to them.

In hindsight, having such a wide range for the sale to *potentially* start just encourages people to constantly spam refresh the page. I'd imagine doing that would cause more stress on the servers then just letting people know when the damn thing actually starts.

I get the idea, and appreciate the attempt, but I feel the way the 4H do these sales, where it's split into two or more scheduled drops, works way better overall.

That said, the wolfman is probably one of my favorite figures from the line, despite most of his gear being super fiddly and annoying. Like his scabbard is too big for his sword, his crossbow's handle stretches his hand while his knife is too small to fit in said stretched hands, the bolts on his chest get in the way of things while his pauldrons have such super long pegs they kinda flop around in his back and I'm super afraid of then snapping. And yet, despite all these issues, just the idea of a leather and chainmail clad one eyed wolfman rogue is awesome enough for him to be one of my favorite figures in general.

It's such a cool, unique and interesting concept, and I wish more figures from the wave were like him.

Yea, he's just starting his collection. Only has a knight legion builder and a Shadow Orc in hand, but he has some figures from the Reign wave pre-ordered and plans to buy more when we hit up NYCC in october.

Also, new figures hit the 4H shop, mostly Poxxus stuff for Mythic and the Outpost: Zaxxius stuff for Cosmic. Most notably though is the Retail Appreciation figures, the asian elf, red Tu5cc pilot and Blue Hagnon, up for sale at $37 a pop, way below the $50 most retail places are asking. Ended up getting me the Elf, a spare Gawrychh to do some part swaps with, and a green armory knight that I've been eyeing for ages.

The two poxxus wizards on sale are both good figures, but they're especially nice since you can steal their limbs for other figures, swap in random color parts that don't fit with other characters and bury those random pieces under their robes.

Also the evil wizard just looks metal.

Well the website specifically lists it as Conrad's Pistol, which is referencing John Conrad from R.E. Howard's The Children of the Night. Considering all the weapons in that deluxe set are based off of other REH characters, I'm going to assume that's the primary reason it's included.

Still neat to know about that what if though, even if it's not the only time Conan shows up in the modern times Marvel Universe. IIRC he was even part of an actual Avengers sub-team at one point and paled around with the Punisher for a while.

In other news, anyone at all interested in the Legions Test Shot sale coming up this weekend? I'll be sitting it out myself, but it's interesting in that they'll actually be including color matches soft goods with the releases, so if you want some grey wizard robes and parts, that's gonna be a thing. Mind you, the figures are super limited in number (like 10 per character), more expensive then normal figures and supposed to be collector's items, so using em in mods isn't the best idea. Anoooooooons I'm so close to breaking my own imposed sanctions again. I really should just wait for my other preorders over the next months instead of buying more, but this character really calls to me. I'm such a failure.

I've had her pre-ordered for like a year, if not more, and this is the first time I noticed she actually has a name.

Also, if it helps, it's a Boss Fight figure, so it's very unlikely to sell out any time soon. I'd wait a bit before you grab her.

I live in England so American figures are always much more limited here. I am basically sold on her, that review confirmed it, my only real gripe is the plastic cape, it's just that those stupid sexy Xesray girls ate up my budget, I feel like I am being reckless if I pick up anything that isn't on my most wanted list. I'm fully greased, banana peels on each foot and half way down the slope at this point, it's over.

Nice, more BFS 1/12 Court of the Dead figures: Demithyle and Shard

Tastes are funny. I'm getting the other three, but not Kier. For me, she does too many different tryhard things: skin color, bloody limbs, mouth spill thing, barefoot, white eyes, skull. But if she clicks with you I guess she's pretty awesome.

My Conan survived the trip from Florida unscathed. I am really happy with him, he feels really solid and I think the faces came out so much better than they initially looked in promos. The curved sword is a bit annoying to unsheathe/sheathe I have to warm up the scabbard and his right shoulder joint is very tight, I am still heating and working it in, but aside from those tiny quibbles I am content. I'll put off lying on a train track a bit longer.

Yeah fair enough. She really looks like a Brom (one of fav artists) painting come to life, thr colours and the skull mask etc, guess it just does it for me. I have never heard of this series, are they from comics or something? Looks pretty cool, I saw some of the 1/18 scale and statues and I'd be interested in some more 1/12 versions. Those two you linked look promising.

I think they started out as a statue (and maybe bust?) series and then BFS got the action figure licence.

This is probably much taller than 6" if the 1/18 figure is of indication, which is a head taller than normal dudes.
I presume that they just slap the 6" tag to every figure in the line.

Was that a robo review? I don't really keep up with toytubers but I generally recognize the blue background....I think.

Funny enough, I like her *because* of all the try hard edginess. You don't normally see that in action figures, let alone getting a demon/evil lady like her to begin with, so she'll be unique in my collection. She'll be a good foil to Sonia and a good henchwoman to that McFarlane Lilith when she comes out.

The three armed skeleton dude is also pretty cool, and I'll probably get him just for that awesome flamberge. Meanwhile, the chick in all black just seems....boring. Like nothing about her really stands out and I don't have much interest in grabbing her. Also, seems to have no weapon stowage, and that's always a big no-no for me when a character has multiple weapons. She's not a bad looking figure mind you, she just doesn't jump out as a must have for me.

.........though knowing me I'll probably break and grab her at some point anyway because she'd still work well in this weird Neo-Hyborian Age toy-verse I've apparently started building. Not even including Legions in the mix, we've been flooded with old school fantasy icons, period piece ancient warriors and all sorts of other sword and sandal styled characters and figures. Between Bossfight, Savage Crucible, Xesray, AWOK, Frazetta Girls, random chinese companies, and whatever other left field releases are coming down the line, I'm finding myself knee deep (literally, the boxes are piling up) in fantasy figures. Not exactly a bad problem to have, but certainly one I never expected to deal with outside of Legions figures.

Yeah sorry I probably should have named the image, he got copies of Death and Kier early if you want to check it out. I think she looks great, thought they are quite expensive and I have no reference for Boss Fight quality, only thing making me hesitant. That and I have overspent already and want to put my head in an oven.

I'm having second and third thoughts on this one. She's cute and I like most of her design, but I'm not a fan of the fully armored, helmetless, gloveless concept, and she's really not that incredibly unique to warrant the trouble of getting matching gloves and helmet for her. On the other hand I guess I could reason that she's a spellsword who needs to have her hands and head bare.

I managed to get a few of the test shots I wanted yesterday but I got a feeling after seeing all that stuff still available later that we’re being scammed. Other test shots I have been in weird colors, sometimes multiple colors depending on parts of the tools. The Classics ones I have are in weird colors which you could almost tell when they were made based on the plastic matching existing figures. The Hasbro ones I have usually have marker writing with numbers. This feels like these are shameless cash grabs where they run the molds in gray and sell them as test shots and people eat it up and sell them for crazy money afterwards.

Four Horsemen had their first test shot sale of two yesterday. Basically they are supposed to as it sounds, the first run of a figure in a mold to test it out to see if adjustments need to be made. They’re made cheaply and typically use left over plastic or whatever is in the machine. Using the one color helps see issues with joints and clearances. Here’s a pic of a Chief Carnivus I had got from a He-Man.org member but I’ve since sold it. The back of his cape had marker writing on there with the item number. Typically depending on team and line size they might make 4-7 maybe 10.

These feel like they manufactured to just sell to the fanbase. When they sold them originally they might have been really test shots. They claimed they had them piling up from production and new stuff coming in. You mean to tell me all the guys that work there didn’t want to take them home? These feel like hey let’s make some money. Run 25 or more of each mold in plain gray and we’ll charge double the price for them. They’ll sell them later on for $500-$800. The newer ones they have actually come in normal packaging. I know they can run whatever they want. One of the Glyos makers made a fan club and the selling point to join was you get a test shot of a new figure. I asked the guy if it was limited to just maybe the first few who sign up but he said no, every member will get one. He just needs them to run 42 extras when they do the test shot to cover the paid members. It turned out to be a MUSCLE Things flesh color Zeroid that was due to some of the makers using that color for a run of figures.

If maybe the 3 Neckbeards called this a test shot color run maybe it would be alright but they’re saying they are really test shots and having them not sell out instantly feels disingenuous.

Ahhh OK, thanks for the detailed explanation, that's something completely new to me. I can see how something like that can be taken advantage of, cheeky of them if true, surely the whole value of it, is in its authenticity as a development step, right? Very lame how companies just can't help themselves.

I mean...they've been very upfront that these are specifically run in solid grey to look better in a collection, but they very much are test shots. Heck, they even specifically mentioned they had the factory provide color matched soft goods for these figures, even though that's not something normally done for test shots, because the wizards wouldn't look right without the robes. IIRC, the actual solid grey color used was originall an accident, but it looked so good and was such a popular idea, that they just released similar versions of all the figures they've made in that test shot grey.

They've been doing em since the very first wave of figures and the test shots, of which only ten per character were made, were the first actual samples people got in hand of this line. I've been posting these guys since 2015, as that's when the first test shotswere shipped out (they were $45 at the time, but came with two day shipping from china to arrive before X-mas that year). The final production figures didn't ship out until summer 2016 as they just started full production that same december the test shots shipped out.

Yes, these guys are made to be sold, but they're still the first runs of the figure from the finalized molds once all the imperfections have been addressed.
