Markups based on what they think Tariffs will likely be or just pure greed. Sketchbook Grayskull was $50 more. Subtract $20 for the figure and $10 for the Mat, it's still a $20 markup.

They'll probably make it to stores and go on sale for $20-25 at some point.

If you guys really compare this new snake lair to grayskull and snake mountain you see a world of difference. Theres a ton more detailing with lots of additional individually molded pieces, inner walls on the inside, more and more intricate action features like the rubberized snake pit, snake periscope, and double drawbridge/opening gate with various metal chains throughout. Theres also noticably more paint detailing. It's the same *size* but the details are what's costing money I think. $300 is a lot, but feels about right IF it has all the unlocks.

Now whether you like how the set looks with all this extra effort or if you'd prefer it to be more in line with simpler vintage sensibilities is another matter, but in terms of production cost it seems fair ish.

Let's pretend the set is priced fairly, even though it's not. My problem is that it still looks bad aesthetically. Rather than putting all kinds of gadgets and doodads and fancy reliefs on the inside, they could have spent half as much time and money making the outside look cool and unique. Compare this new version to an amateur mockup of the original concept art. The new playset is flat, narrow, boxy, and boring. Gone are all the fun little nooks and crevasses, replaced with straight stone walls like every other castle playset. The biggest tragedy for me was the loss of the grand stairway. That feature was very unique, and I would have loved posing figures climbing, falling, and dangling from those steps.

At the end of the day, all I really wanted was a fun playset that looked like a ruined jungle temple. Well, it’s been ruined alright, just not the way I was hoping.

>My problem is that it still looks bad aesthetically.
The new design has no soul The original pitch had issues like those heads over the stairs but the new design feels so boxy. They just took their pitch from last year and reshaped it into a vintage building but it's fucking ugly. Rather has the previous version at this point. Plus the inside is basically the same unwanted crap from last year which I didn't care for at all.

Can this even close up? Because it doesn't look like it without removing the interior. Grayskull and Snake Mountain can seal with the insides in place. GS and SM have MUCH more depth to their playsets while this looks very shallow. Areas like the entrance extending inside with no floor looks really bad. The snake trap pit being rubber means it'll possibly get tacky or rip. Did they learn nothing from the push back during Street Sharks and all of the complaints about cracked rubber forming out of the box?

Want the Priest, will not back if they don't at least lower the price and make the figures guaranteed. Not gonna have FOMO over a single snake.

Because Mattle is dumb! We discussed that in older threads.
They had it already with the meteor people and Rio-Blast. They just had to pick it up and say the origin story for NA is different now. The Mutants hunt the Metoer People, they flee and crash land on Eternia. Rio Blast is their protector and follow them. The Mitants search for them and find them on Eternia. Rio-Blast is a Galactic Guardian and contacts them. Now He-Man and the Galactic Guardians join together. The Mutants face such a hard counter from He-Man that they seek Skeletor to join forces!
Its so easy!

Hordak seems the most obvious because both of them have arm guns, but Trap Jaw would work just as well.

Im curious to see how they handle He-man Prime. That can either turn out really bad or really cool, and already Skeletor has raised the bar really high.

I agree with the loss of the staircase running up to the the side gate, that was a nice design element I wish they had kept. Everything else looks better in the final design than in the render you posted IMHO. The new darker deco makes it feel more like a lost jungle lair, I love that they replaced the random screaming Gorgon faces which felt too much like Snake Mountain anyway with the snake turret. I like that they replaced all the carved piles of stone snakes with the Battle Bones skull and I like the new drawbridge with the cool Snake staff key feature rather than the simple gate. Sorry your dissapointed in the final result but I'm still pleasantly surprised they actually asked for fan feedback on this and created something so much closer to the original art while adding a few fun new elements. I hope it manages to get funded despite the tier system of Axel OC's because I really want a home for my vintage Snake Men and a Snorse for King Hiss to ride!

Honestly I wasn't going into Cartoon Collection with expectation that they'll do full vintage with any of them. Many are complicated, obscure...

Khan is just annoying because he's the last reccuring Evil Warrior and his limbs are fully reusable (honestly they could probably use vintage hips).Same with Rebellion, forget full set but we dont even have Glimmer.

This is also part of the reason I can't bother with crossovers You cant get too invested. What's that, you want new characters like Stockman for Reptile Wars? Fuck you, Foot Soldier is best you get, have more character reuses. No, you're not getting regular torso for Mikey or two figures for Bebob and Rocksteady, we're doing cats now. What's that, you want mutants and Thunderkittens? Fuck you, it's Transformers time.

And for crying out loud, how hard is it to make Strobo and Plasmar?

I'm gonna say no
They already confirmed at the panel that September's MC release will be She-Ra and Swift Wind, they'll probably give over either October or November to the last CG Preternia guy that the still haven't confirmed, and we don't usually get an MC MotU figure in December. So Dragstor has to fight Moss Man and Stingor for August and October or November, and that's also assuming they don't just outright skip a month (which they occasionally do).
Dragstor will probably be January like Rio was last year.

It's a serious problem in Hollywood that films are only ever greenlit in terms of trends. Westerns, disaster films, sci-fi, action, teen drama slashers, vampires, zombies, now superhero movies. He-Man is close enough to a superhero that studios think they can probably drape its skin over your typical superhero plot, when really it should be a fantasy sci-fi movie. It should be closer to Conan and John Carter than Captain America, but that's not the genre in vogue right now.

Except Mondo is a totally different sphere. Well, there's the scorpion dude too, but I agree that a brand new untested character being the ONLY other figure for that section of Origins is pretty weak.

I'm not even gonna say they should've had more vintage than just Dragstor, but if they WEREN'T, then show us more than just 1 other figure. Show the Eldor we know is upcoming. Do a couple cheapos like Strobo.
So yeah, either two vintages minimum, or just one vintage and two or three non-vintage fillers

Its debatable how many of these new players stick around. But there has been a lot of players who are quitting game after decades.

By now, I'm convinced Eldor's comic will be mostly his origin story with last pages being him fighting off quick, random ambush from the Great Black Wizard. I love that Origins has brought a lot of new characters in under the motu banner. My issue is that instead of the wealth of material Mattel could use to make figures of, we are getting side tracked with crossovers. How many Man-at-Arms does a fella need?

Also seems kind of strange that a fair weather fan is telling the die hards to get over it and move on. Genuine question but which demo does Mattel want more? Preferably they would try to pander to all types of fans.

I like the new characters we got in Origins. My favourite thing about MOTU has been the weirdo B and C Listers. A-listers? I don't even own MAA in Origins, CC or MV. But I own Demoman, Fangman and Blade.
And I think crossovers have their place, but after a while they feel hollow. It was great seeing TMNT compatible with MOTU because I would have loved that as a kid. ThunderCats was alright, but I am kind of ambivalent to it. But Transformers? Wow, a non-transforming Megatron with Skeletor's face. Non-transforming Transformers always do so well. Look at Action Masters, and Revoltech, and Super7 and Hasbro's RED line. I'm more excited about Stingor than I am about this Trans-man shit.

How annoying. I'm a really new fan (2022, thanks to Origins getting my attention). I really, really want them to complete Vintage because 1) that's what most hardcore fans want and 2) they said they'd do it. It would be bad if they didn't fulfill that promise.
My suspicion is that they are intentionally dragging it out to keep the big Vintage fans attention on the line. I think they've dragged it on way too long. Give us Two-Bad already. Maybe they can take their time with a few odd ones, but they really should be evenly distributing it out.
For me, the ideal waves would be structured like:
2 or 3 Vintage (MotU and She-Ra and Movie)
1 or 2 Oddballs and Literal Whos (Sharella, Vultak)
1 or 2 New OC characters (Frog Monger, Sting-Or)
The one good thing for me is that they are making new characters and releasing odd balls. That said, they shouldn't be dangling a carrot in front of fans faces with Vintage much longer. That isn't right or cool for Mattel to do. But as long as they keep releasing new Origins stuff I'll be happy.
Also I may be very spoiled considering how good some of the 2024 and 2025 releases were.

I really hate Axels' OC snakes and Mattel's constant need to push them. The fact that the Snake Lair comes with another one and a variant of another makes the whole set less appealing overall.
