posted this in the old thread, but figured i'd post it here, too. Regarding SG Nemesis Prime

>>11522792
I mean, they already did that in the OTFCC/Botcon comics. SG Prime gets dumped off in a similar way to Megatron in TFTM, SG Unicron finds him and reformats him into that one IDW Orion Pax remold they did for the club, Nova Prime.

If I have MPG Ginrai, do I even need 86 Optimus, in your opinion? 86 is totally inferior in the articulation department and he is basically G1 Optimus. But not. I have never been in love with 86 based on looks either, but the Ginrai cab bot isnt the most aesthetically pleasing figure ever made either. I feel like 86 is a gap in my collection but idk. I dont want to spend $100 on it. I am about to cave for a cheap ko with no trailer, but I dont like KOs. Also, I feel like I dont need the trailer but if I dont have that dust collector box Im sure I will miss it. As you can see, Im really at a loss.

How big are the dinobots Magmatron transforms into? I heard his head is pretty much a deluxe class, is that true? Like would it look good with another deluxe class dino? Makes zero sense, unless like Dinobots and gravity defying "transformations"*, Bay walked back his dislike of mass-shifting too.

*aoe got the gravity defying without proper transformations, forgot what the galvatron bunch were called and whatever the hell that conversion process was... it might count as morphing which was also a Bay no-no.

Notable details and summary from the first draft of the CBS pitch
>Dated Feb 25th, 1984, meaning it was still in development the same time the original pilot was being scripted (Feb 8, 1984)
>As such, nobody has their Budiansky personalities or bios (a footnote says these will come "later")
>Concept tone is set with a bunch of faux news reports of people seeing UFOs/ball lightning, and jets/experimental beam cannon vanishing afterward
>Transformers are established as having just evolved that way due the alien world they inhabit. The war raged until the Decepticons were defeated-- but the Autobots only destroyed their physical bodies. Actual living part is described as "electronic life-entitites"-- effectively their intelligence/brains which can then possess normal Earth devices and turn that into a new transformer body
>Decepticons base is under the sea, off the coast of Florida

>Megatron has the particle beam cannon alt mode, but can also shrink in size to be a hand held laser pistol (the pitch NEVER says the word "gun"). Megatron has all the Decepticon orbs in a containment unit, and he blasts them out of his cannon to make new Decepticons for any given episode (these new troops are established to be defeated by episode's end to keep the status quo going)
>Soundwave is second in command, and is constantly at odds with Megatron and thinks HE should lead the Decepticons. Mass shifts from a tape recorder into a "30' tall robot".
>Buzzsaw, the only Cassette mentioned. Focuses on spywork, recon. Spies for Megatron's plans, but Soundwave also has him do things for his own agenda and overthrow Megatron
>Starscream, "white" jet. Female in the first draft, and is a "screamer". Vicious, quick to start her tirades at the slightest provocation. Has the hot and cold weapons that later revisions would give to Firecycle. Specifically has it out for Jazz, who destroyed her original body on Cybertron
Anonymous No.11524887 >>11524888 >>11525001
>>11524886
>Thundercracker, "Red" jet, described as "the strong, quiet type". Weapons are tractor beams so he can pull an enemy close and use his huge physical strength on them
>Skywarp, "Black" jet. Full of bottomless hatred after being imprisoned by the Autobots. Weapon is his "Warp-Ray", which is both "ear-shattering" and makes a space/time warp that is cited as a method to allow Decepticons to escape when they need to, or possibly be used as a trap for the Autobots

>Optimus Prime is basically exactly the same character he would wind up as. Trailer turns into the Autobot HQ. Intentionally chose a truck with a human companion both because he figured a human ally would be useful, and because he was too caring to just steal a vehicle the way the Decepticons do.
>Jazz has an "impulsive personality". Jazz isn't afraid of Starscream, and intends to put her out of commission again. Reckless driver. Makes a mention that Transformers overall can be damage still and still need to be repaired, with an example being "they react to a dented fender like we would a broken arm"
>"Toad" - Early Bumblebee/Muffler, is a GREEN Volkswagon Beetle. Messenger, spy. His car was a junker, so has issues like not transforming properly, or running out of gas, or maybe even getting a speeding ticket from a cop. These drafts LOVE the idea of people looking into the vehicle and seeing no drivers. Is companion of human character Wendy, because he took her car and Optimus said stealing is forbidden so now Toad is "her property"
>Trailbreaker, scout and can fly. Enjoys the beauty of Earth when on mission, but gets homesick for the metallic home of Cybertron
>Sideswipe, red countach. Text doesn't have enough detail to say which of the Lambos this was going to be. Girl. Intelligence gathering, can tap any earth broadcast and even read Decepticon memory banks. Loves and admires Optimus. Optimus isn't oblivious to this, but has known war too long to risk ever getting attached.
Anonymous No.11524888 >>11524889 >>11525001
>>11524887
>Mirage, fastest autobot. Cool, calm, but also quick with a wisecrack, epsecially if he's in trouble. Makes passes at Sideswipe, who is quick to remind him that Optimus is her "prime" man.
>Ironhide/Hound/Ratchet are all secondaries, background filler unless a story's script needs one. Ironhide has tough armor, Hound is adept at getting in and out of all sorts of terrain, and Ratchet is for when there's an emergency (especially if humans are involved).

>Humans
>William "Duke" Conroy, the trucker whose truck Optimus took over. Begrudgingly involved in this, constantly griping about how this all got in the way of his earning a paycheck. Han Solo type, still does the right thing in the end. Since Optimus's trailer is HQ, ALL the Autobots are stored in the trailer, and Duke grumbles about this since there's barely any room for his shipments he'd prefer to do. Duke is taken along even when Optimus turns into a robot and would be seen in the window chest of Optimus, bitching the whole time.
>Wendy Fairchild, ordinary midwestern teen. Would prefer to focus on regular teen girl things, and having a car that's a space alien robot doesn't help with that. Pitch suggest she's not used in every plot, just when they need a little more peril, or a comic relief situation of her having to explain to her parents why the car is missing or at episode's end why the car has all these laser holes in the windshield.
>Arthur Kroll. Standard saturday morning evil human, strikes a deal with Megatron so he can rule the human slaves after Megatron conquers the planet. Could be used to get Megatron into places a giant robot couldn't sneak into otherwise. Neither trusts the other. Special callout made that Duke hates "traitors" and would love to really rough up Kroll.
Anonymous No.11524889 >>11524893 >>11525001
>>11524888
>Rest of the pitch document is just basic premise establishment that is very close to final, transformers need fuel to function, too much damage makes transformation impossible, etc. Autobots saying "We're running on empty" seems like a nudge that they wanted it as a quick way to add some peril to plots (oh no what if they don't have the strength to win? before a commercial break sort of thing). Last few pages are story springboards which all amount to Megatron goes [mechanical thing] to turn it into [new decepticons].

Maybe via Studio Series, since his design is concise enough, but mix in some IDW and he would be a feasible toy. Hasbro said they're ready to branch out to comics soon with this line, and no, it's not the reason the numbering dropped either.

On that note... Remember when we got those mass-produced Sideways through the Galaxy Force DVD pack-ins (the same way we got stuff like the Red Excillion that gave him Hot Rod colors and Thunderblast in Minerva colors)? If I have my guess, it's easy to imagine that the Unicron Soldier listing we got for next year's fall wave is 100% the MP Sideways from Cybertron. I mean, they are basically designed for easy army building, especially as solo releases compared to that excuse of an army building set back in Legacy.

It used to be nothing to drop $12 on a deluxe just to satiate a momentary desire for novelty, hell that's how I wound up with '07 Payload that rickety bastard. Paying $50 for a Voyager Blitzwing (and hulk hands!) made me feel dirty and it's no longer fun to be exploited for my nostalgia by a soulless corporation who've figured out how to milk us forever.
If we still had Legends/Legion guys for $6-$10 I'd probably stomach it a lot easier, but then again I've got no desire to recollect the '84 cast yet again. Maybe the movie crew, a little Springer would be neat. God dammit.

People don't want to be buying unsubstantial remakes of the same characters again and again. How many G1-style Thundercrackers and Megatrons do you really need? On top of that, Legacy had mostly low quality vehicle modes (which AOTP seems to be fixing). Hasbro is just doubling down since they're going to be putting "show/comic-accurate" figures in Studio Series while Generations is for characters remade in the G1 aesthetic.
Hasbro needs to make more new characters and designs and lay off on the remakes. It's becoming stagnant. I'm just glad the Primes are really cool.

>What I don't understand is Long Haul's knees. >What are the locking clips above the knees for?
Long Haul's knees aren't at the edge of his bucket - they actually split along the rear half of his truck bed on his G1 show model. Those red squares are supposed to be on his thighs; the toy accomplishes this by letting you clip the upper edge of his bucket to his actual thighs, locking the transformation joint in place and allowing you to bend his actual knees beneath it. The stock photography is mistransformed (shocking, I know) - the two red circles here are his actual knees.

Toys have the ability to inspire joy just by looking at them. When you're working them into a pose or setting up a display, none of the world's problems or your own matter. Can't remember the exact quote, but I'm sure it was something about the transformation defying gravity or something. Which the man-made TF's in AoE went on to do anyway. Yes there is an obvious size creep starting. The deluxe minibots are pretty solid evidence for this. Also 86 Optimus, Ultra Magnus, and Megatron are all bigger than their previous iterations. When Hasbro killed Star Wars TVC they stated that it was no longer economically feasible to make small figures as they basically cost the same price to produce as figures twice as big. The costs have become negligible so they make larger figures for the same cost as small onces but get to charge us more because bigger = more expensive to our pea brains even though they just explained otherwise. But as time goes on and I continue with what feels like the next stupid, pointless appointment to run the next stupid, pointless test, I find they help me more than anything. Is the time I spend messing around with them a waste? Maybe, but it's better than endlessly googling symptoms of conditions I may or may not have and or falling down the anxiety/depression hole for the thousandth time. It's a different story when struggling with your finances and your health though. I'd like a Shockwave alt that really leans into his retro sci-fi angle the same way his raygun alt did; maybe have him become a War of the Worlds-style UFO walker with the real long legs, that'd be neat.

And that's why I just stick to G1.

Collecting modern TF is just re-buying the same dozen characters all over again once every year or two, you buy an Optimus Prime and a Megatron and in a couple of years Hasbro is just going to release another, better one, forcing you to buy them again. And again. And again. Even if you don't, you'll still find yourself buying characters that never get any toys otherwise that suddenly make your old Optimus look crap because of a whole decade of engineering improvements, you have to re-buy Optimus again. And don't tell me you're not that autistic, you collect Transformers, you're 100% that autistic.

Meanwhile there is only one G1. Vintage G1 is definitive; everything else is derivative.

For Beast Wars it's a different story, but that's also because they mostly fall into the "once in a lifetime" category of getting like one modern figure ever, so if you're into Beastformers, avoiding the hellish cycle of re-buying is pretty easy.

...which is also probably why nearly all the modern TFs I buy anymore are beastformers, and I don't even care about Beast Wars. Go figure.

Mixmaster>Long Haul>Scrapper>Hook>Scavenger>Bonecrusher

Vehicle
Long Haul+trailer>Scavenger>Scrapper>Hook>Long Haul alone>Mixmaster>Bonecrusher

The tread legs for Scavenger and Bonecrusher really hinder them in robot mode. As Vehicles Bonecrusher is easily the most boring as he doesn't have wheels. Scavenger has a decently articulated excavator shovel so I find him more fun despite also lacking wheels.

Missing Link is in a bit of an oddity.

I mean I really can't see it suffering from the "constantly updating the same character" problem because you really can only add articulation to those designs once, but it's also giving us a bunch of redecos and even sculpts we've never had before, with Cordon and prototype Arcee respectively.

I mostly picked up Sunstreaker in lieu of there being an actual reissue, but even then there's a part of me that wishes I just got the original instead; the added articulation makes the transformation less, I dunno, fluid? compared to a G1 toy proper. It's kind of hard to explain. Like with the added range of movement that isn't in the service of the transformation, I have to keep re-adjusting everything after moving them during the transformation.

>>11528763
