I'm travelling to South Korea next week as I feel like I'm missing something in my life and I wanted to get out of my comfort zone. I'm kind of a shy introvert who just going to explore and do some photography. I'm kind of curious about checking out the nightlife there even though I don't like clubbing much. Are the Koreans friendly to foreigners and what are the girls like? This is going to be my first solo travel.

and student focused clubs
meeting other foreigners is mostly Itaewon and Hongdae

but Korea is really hard mode regarding solo traveling!
koreans don't do "meeting strangers" - you typically get introduced over mutual friends

get on a few group tours, though it's gonna be mainly short term tourists

Your best bet if you are alone is to make a friend immediately with other travelers and go out with them to nightlife where people drink and mingle. Korea is very lonely otherwise, it takes effort to make friends and you have only a week, so you have to find other people hanging around, and then hope they aren't weird. Without speaking Korean will also hinder you, along with being a foreigner, and being male, this is who they don't really like. You'll end up in the playground with a bottle of soju with the other outsiders, but for a week you can make the best of it. On weekdays it's not as many people, just go around and try local food, hike up a mountain which is a great solo activity, look around the shops, maybe do a culture or language class. Try on hanbok.

For clubs: Waikiki paradise and la Bomba are both great. There are foreigners and the Koreans are interested in foreigners here in general. During my time there, I received more free alcohol than I spent money on alcohol. I forgot what your other questions were.

is this a Gangnam thing? in Hongdae all clubs were really welcoming to foreigners when I visited. I didn't go to Gangnam clubs because all the girls there seemed to be bogged hags

I am also autistic and also did a solo trip to SK. It was the loneliest and most depressing two weeks of my life. I think the country is probably one of the most fun places on Earth to live in if you're a normal person and have friends, but for me it was excruciating. Hope you have more luck.

With the whole sex tourism thing: South Korea seems to have much more women coming to meet men. I think there is a sense that Korean men are more valuable (?) if that makes sense. So the foreign men I see successful, typically are the tall good looking types that will be successful everywhere regardless of race.

It does not mean you wont find success, but if you dont put yourself out there, then it will be a lot harder.

I would suggest itaewon over hongdae, as there are more foreigners there and competition will be a loooooot easier to manage. There are girls who still go to meet foreign guys.

This guy is pretty much on the spot (I'm Korean btw). Every club will feel like the sweatiest ranked game you ever played (if you are a foreigner going for the prettier women). Ive seen some people who will purposely interrupt a conversation to cock block foreigners.

With the ego thing: The people considered losers will not be in the clubs in Korea. So itll be packed with your typical popular guy types. A lot will be dickheads. The shorter guys tend to me more fun and accepting.

Korea sucks in the fact the population is hyper focused on seoul. Therefore tourism is centered around seoul as well. Outside, other than busan, will be difficult for solo travelers to go around. Smaller towns will have near nothing to do. But to be fair, I might have bias being a Korean and all.

My advice overall: Learn a bit of Korean and pray you get lucky. Unless youre not ugly and short. Then just go have fun.

Gangnam does not accept foreigners. I think this also includes most places in sinsa and apgujeong (?) but im not sure as foreigners dont go there often (other than chinese).

Gangnam is also more for the table game. So unless youre looking to drop 1000 minimum then it not worth it. Honestly even with the table its not worth it.

You need a local SIM and a prepaid one wont work. I lived there for almost a year and was confused why its set up like that. Makes no sense. That was a few years ago, maybe its changed though.

I did some hiking, some trails had temples along them that were pretty cool. I hiked Jeju island mountain and that was nice but rained sideways when we got to the top, supposed to be a cool view.
