Sup trv, hope this is the right place it relates to travel trust me.
Work has an offer for me to relocate to Hawaii, traveling there for a week to scout it out a bit, been before but never looked at it this way. How bad has HI gotten since covid I know the west coast cities got hit pretty hard.

Right now some friends I know pointed me to 2 places but I'd like second opinions from people who aren't asmongold levels of "this is a fine place".
A) is near McKinly HS, 1100/mo all utilities place. Older apartment small 1br and stand in shower. Suggested by friend
B) Leahi park, ~900/mo no utilities slightly bigger but studio. way newer

I currently make 85k/yr work is willing to bump me to 92k/yr if I accept, it's mainly(90%) WFH but there are times I'll need to be into the office mainly for upgrades and meetings for the big wigs. We have issues with working timezones from east coast and asia so they want to put me between the two. Would hawaii be okay on my salary? No debt to speak of, no pets, single, early 30's, and no expensive hobbies. Currently living in the midwest so moving is ideal for me, but heard HI has become a trash heap of homeless moving in and they can't get them to leave.

Any anons live in HI share to speak on it, yes I know goods cost more but I feel it's a decent trade off to get rid of 6 months of bleh weather.

I'm not trying to flex anon, I've paid my shit dues by living in some hellish spots
>>2808108
I'm single and in IT, my boss knows I don't drink too heavily or chase women 24/7 so they gave it to me.

Googling people say 90k is like unlivable and has me worried a bit, but I have 0 student debt or CC loans and 0 medicla issues outside some tooth work I probably need done. I'm fine with shopping at walmart for most my groceries, I don't eat out too much maybe twice a week, and mostly play some vidya.

Not trying to humble brag or anything I've heard that moving to Hawaii is great but getting out is hell, homeless becoming a huge issue, women are easy to pick up but have a kid and divorce regularly, and the true locals are absolute trash. Just looking if people had similar exp because googling brings up 5000 reddit threads all going on about inane shit like "did you know medication is expensive AF" or "the price of hekkin funko pops is insane fucking tariffs".

I don’t care what fucking dues. Why the fuck do you get offered to work in literal fucking paradise while I rot in a hovel? I don’t get to enjoy my fucking life at all. I get to go to work and then come home, sleep, and do it all the fuck over again.

The best pleasure I can indulge in is going for a long fucking walk and getting coffee and donuts. Woa that’s so awesome,

Fuck you

LMAO dude just hide the thread then.

Again the reason I made this thread is because I am wondering, the saying is if something is too good to be true it probably is. For all I know I move out there get fucked by AI and then wonder if it's a livable state.

Don't listen to that guy, OP. That's just Tyler who gets mad at anyone who gets to work remotely or relocated to a desirable area. Meanwhile, he has to work overtime at a dead-end job despite having a degree, just to go to Thailand for a few months. I believe the last job he held was working in airport security at the Denver Airport. Rather ironic; he hates black people, but ends up doing a job that is very popular with them.

I wouldn't take anything seriously from him. He's a 5'9" Irish-Italian mix (with a possibility of middle eastern), so he's not even actually white.

Yeah it's a massive shit hole imo but what do you really have to lose. Try it for a couple years and if it sucks bail.

If you didn't have to stay in Oahu the other islands are much more livable but also more expensive.

OP here, wow this is a slow board huh.

Well to follow up looks like the position went up in smoke. My boss doesn't mind me moving so back to my original question, has anyone here lived in Hawaii on 85/yr. I'd like to do it and think most people on reddit aren't in a financially responsible position, like my credit card is paid off before the end of each month, no car debt, no student debt, no ~loans~/buy now pay later, and rarely impulse buy outside a few things. Currently spend about 200-250/mo in food(I walmart 90% of my food) and cook at home, I feel like a good trade off would be clothing since I wouldn't have to freshen up the winter wear and so on. Not sure how viable a bike is in Hawaii some of the roads took kinda pothole filled.

Just wondering for those who live in places like SEA islands or whatever you guys do, do you get bored of the weather? I feel that would be the biggest gripe. Sure it's great but I'm ~4-6 hour flight away from any change in scenery where as now I can take about a 90 minute flight or 2-3 hour ride and get enough of a change.

The median per-capita income in Hawaii is $70,000. You will be above average at $85,000. Yes, you should relocate to Hawaii. Don't be such a cheapshit when it comes to food. $250 per month or $2 per meal is ridiculously low for your income level. The locals are big on respect for the land and its native inhabitants, so be guarded in your interactions with them.

I mostly meal prep at home, I shit you not my normal weekly meals consist of hot pot high protein chicken/beef/pork stuff.

Worked with some locals in the past IMO they are about as native americans here in the midwest. I don't give a shit about their "muh heritage" sure I will let them do their song and dance and pity parties without protest, but you'll be hard fought to find me donating shit to them.

Kind of having second thoughts knowing my weekends are now shafted, 6AM wake ups are going to be rough on mondays but I feel a lot better now. Kinda shocked at the apartment prices honestly, found a decent place 1200/mo (studio only but all walkable) and a similar place (one small BR need a car or chance the crackbus) is 1060-1100 in my midwest place.
