Cyberpunk Experience
Which city in the world is the best in terms of a cyberpunk experience?

My pic is Hong Kong, but I've been told it lost a lot of its vibe and luster

Tokyo is a city where most buildings are 5 floors tall and it's nothing but grey blocks. It's about as cyberpunk as Des Moines.

Hong Kong and any major mainland Chinese city are good options.

Hong Kong is the obvious #1 choice, it's an atmosphere that is impossible to replicate anywhere else

I also enjoyed Shenzhen because it's ultra-modern shit but built on top of a decaying communist shithole. if you walk literally one block past the shiny light show you have favela-tier ghettos

probably most of the modernized Chinese cities would do, like Chongqing

Seoul has nice cyberpunk vibes in places but it's just ugly and depressing overall (until you get drunk on the abundant booze)

anyway cyberpunk is a meme

OP here.
What about Kuala Lumpur?
I'm trying to plan a SEA trip which includes beaches, and multiple countries, with at least one stay on the most Cyberpunky city in Asia.

Was thinking of doing Thailand-Singapore-Malaysia
or
Thailand-Singapore-Hong Kong

Chongqing looks amazing too but it's a bit of a detour compared to the other schedules.

The entertainment district in Blade Runner is modeled after Hong Kong.

Hong Kong was cyberpunk from 1977 until about 1994. This was a time when they were actually manufacturing cyber stuff like 8-bit and 16-bit PCs. Now it is soulless banking and real estate. Modern Hong Kong is like a Universal Studios recreation of Hong Kong with LEDs instead of Neons.

I know this isn’t what you kids want to hear. But you were born into a dystopia. You will never see Colonial Hong Kong. You will never eat at the Jumbo Restaurant barge. You will never experience a street scene like in Blade Runner. You will never bring a cool gadgets back from your Asian Trip that nobody else can’t just buy on Temu.

Cyberpunk died when Kowloon City was demolished. Your video game theme park recreation made by zoomers who weren’t born yet when it was demolished, will never duplicate it

>But you were born into a dystopia

Unfortunately, this.
Nobody born after 2000 will ever enjoy an authentic experience. They simply missed out. Everything is monetized, marketed, and they’ve seen a million tourists already.

Chongqing is the most cyber punk looking out of all of those. Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia is not cyberpunk, to me at least. Maybe if you come from bum fuk americca it will b

How fun it would have been to explore the dungeon-like Kowloon Castle!

Recently I enjoyed visiting the Kwung Tong station. The outskirts of Hong Kong are generally more beautiful than the central parts. There are still some neon lights. I went on a date with a girl and she has never been to a dai pai dong before (their traditional restaurant with real food and no management/marketing budget).
I wonder if there is a place in the modern world that people will miss in the future.
Could be something like modern Lao (before people start going to supermarket instead of growing food), or Africa (before it becomes overpopulated), or the radically Islamic countries (before they become globohomo, if they ever will). But all of these are less exciting to me than Hong Kong in the past. Probably the mosques of Iran are already made of drywall and plastic wallpaper.
