I recently won the jackpot in my state lottery. Fortunately it's not a dystopian state that forces your name to be public. I've won more money than I could ever dream of, but as a NEET I don't know what to do. As I cannot explain my immediate change in lifestyle, I've decided to assume the façade that I have got a job in another country and need to move within just weeks (my money will clear next week).

So my questions to you anons, are:
- Where should I move to?
Money is not an issue, I will invest it safely in the stock market and live off dividends. I could afford literally anywhere beyond tax havens like Monaco but I have no desire to be there anyway (I'm sure Nice is nicer)

- Do you have any suggestions for my alibi?
I've been a NEETGOD for years now and the massive gap in my CV will turn some heads if they hear I am moving internationally for work.

- Any places I should visit that you recommend in general?

With that being said, why Ljubljana? I went to Lake Bled once and it was a very pleasant place to spend a few days, but I can't imagine being there most of my time. I should say I am in my late 20s. I don't necessarily need the 'hustle and bustle of the big city' (kek) but I don't really want to sit by myself on 4chan for the rest of my life looking out the window from time to time at a nice view of trees or a lake.

If you want actually warm weather all year and a high level of safety there's not many other places without being cloistered away in resorts separate from any local culture. Bangkok or Singapore are cities at least worth checking out and Thailand has nice tropical beaches in places that are comfortable enough to live. SEA isn't even my place, but I see the appeal

As someone who is familiar with lotto, state lotto is often far far lower than mega millions people are thinking, from mega millions, powerball, etc. OP is most likely looking at ~50k-300k depending on the state. If it's some frozen hell like North Dakota it could be as low as 22k, a state that does not need you to disclose your name.

Exactly how much did you win Anon? How are you paying taxes, a large amount of people who win the lotto end up in courts with it all gone due to failing to properly pay their taxes. Hire a CPA from a reputable firm in your area, lay out EVERYTHING you've done, cut your NEETbux off, and then see exactly how much you have. Often the gov takes 40-45% of your winnings.

You then need to invest, in something real not like bitcoin, or lock in some of your earnings for when you inevitably spend too much and crash, lock away no less than 100k in some investment or trust that you can't access because you need poosy drunk one night.

First off at least in America you have a lot of high value locations you can move into and have your money invested in equity for a greater return. Seriously moving to some good areas of the ski towns, large plots of land in the midwest that's growing as megacities have a second white flight, tropical climates of hawaii, guam, etc. All are wise investments and a stupid upgrade, a proper security system(which you should get regardless), and taking a month or two to wherever is kino.

Your alibi would be much more believable if you moved to a different state rather than a different country. Pick a decent state (somewhere on the other side of the country if possible) and tell your parents that a friend of yours who lives in said state has invited you to live with him and is willing to hook you up with a job. Eventually you can tell them that you've earned enough money to get your own place so that if they ever decide to come visit you they never have to meet this made up friend. This is all assuming that you still want to keep in contact with you family and aren't trying to completely fuck off, of course.

As for where you should settle down long-term I think you should do what other anons have already suggested and just spend some time travelling around the world to see what you like best.

while singapore is a sane default, some questions to ask ourselves would probably be:
1. why is bangkok low key a city of millionaires? of course, earning that fortune often comes somewhere else and they're just passing through even if the pass through is years
2. there still exists a range, a spectrum within SEA. philippines somewhere towards the bottom. laos, myanmar and non-urban cambodia just barely making the list at all.

I wouldn't say absolutely nothing works in every non-SG SEA country, but it probably rounds down to nothing. e.g. medical care does work in thailand. big things like public education do not work though.

I would pick a stable SEA country. Look beyond the sex tourism bullshit and those countries are actually incredible to live in long term. I would have a hard choice between Thailand and Malaysia, actually if I were really rich like a lottery winner I would set up bases in both countries in case one of them becomes unstable.

Some of the positives that both Malaysia and Thailand offer compared to other parts of the world:

-Great weather for long periods of the year
-Locals generally friendly towards foreigners
-Cheap
-Good food
-Easy to stay long term if you have money
-Both countries offer variety of developed and developing locations to settle in
-Can live in both only speaking English (if you're dumb or too lazy to learn the local language)
-Good travel infrastructure to explore both countries
-KL and Bangkok have good international connections

What do you think it's missing? I don't think Malaysia is perfect, neither is Thailand. But to live in and have it as a base it's a great place as per my list of reasons above.

There's lots of places around the world that aren't amazing for a tourist but are pretty great to live in because you have all the amenities that make life easy and enjoyable. That's exactly what Malaysia offers.

e.g. channels like tom scott, and when he made a video about an odd place, I'd just go there for a week
got a bunch of mostly architecture channels I follow and every few weeks there's something interesting so that's where I go
