If you talk and act like a Brooklyn hoodrat, then yes, that's what you'll be treated like. Heartland Americans aren't fond of New Yawkers putting on airs acting like they're something special, dropping cusswords in every sentence. Casual friendliness usually goes over well in a place like Wisconsin. You can even say "hello" to random people passing by on the sidewalk, and they will respond with a smile and a greeting instead of thinking "what's this guy want?" like they do in NYC.

It’s a lovely town but it’s not really comfy. They have a homeless problem, the city is turbolib and very permissive of anti-social behavior. It’s still really nice and its problems seem quaint compared to Milwaukee’s.

Fishing the lakes and rivers is the way to go though. Musky and walleye. Up north around Rhinelander but you can also track south all the way down some of the rivers. Fishing in Lake Michigan is pretty meh compared to the inland stuff.

Wisconsin is pretty fat, their idea of outdoor recreation is drinking beer by a lake and lounging in the sun. However, Dane County, where Madison is located, is one of the least obese counties in Wisconsin, but still sits at 25.8% of the population bulging with rolls of fat.

There is a hostel run by HI near downtown in Madison and it is peak comfy. Also the architecture of the capitol building is really nice and creates an impressive yet quaint skyline. Also check out Olbricht gardens if you go. Overall as comfy as you can get without feeling isolated and estranged like you might a small town. Just ignore the turbolibs, no worse than any west coast city.

Wisconsin is based. I am ethnically German, grew up in Germany until like 10, and then my family moved to the US. Always thought this place was backwards and that the people (yes even the whites) have something very off/unsettling about them.

Went to WI for the first time a few months ago, and it was a bit eerie how I felt at home around the people. Blood really is everything. If you live around the anglo psychopath mixed mutts in the US and aren't Anglo/Italian (or that is to say, genetically fit to be oversocialized) you will feel like your soul is under duress while around them. I am considering buying property in WI for this very reason.
