I'll tell you, Mike. It's because "Star Wars" was a Flash Gordon rip-off first and foremost, then a western, then a mystery, then anything else. And the first film was a one-off. Darth Vader twirled his mustache at the end and that was it.
Then he got lucky with broadening it for a sequel, then again, for RotJ. Then it ran out of gas. The books added some cool stuff, but it was out of gas at that point, and without George Lucas doing what he pitched to Disney (that they promptly threw into the trash), Star Wars was over and well, would be what we have of it now.

Might I suggest Rebel Assault II as well? It's extremely cinematic and has some goosebumpy moments, I promise. It's shockingly good for a video game from the mid-90s. I love the original too, but the sequel is on another level....IF you can get past some frustrating levels. You could do Spiderman: Young boy gains a power, learns a lesson about responsibility and helping people.
You could do The Good the Bad and the Ugly: Three morally dubious characters face off in the hunt for some buried treasure.
You could do Moby Dick: Rebellion Captain with a screw loose takes a crew into uncharted space, in search of some elusive Sith lord who killed his best friend.

That’s only if Disney keeps going through with it and the high republic era. As it stands, season 2 has been cancelled and disney has been hesitant with this era they were previously bragging about. Part of the reason why the prequels were loved so much was cause of the supplementary content. RLM trying to do this narrative with the sequels or the acolyte doesn’t work because they also seem to forget the prequels were more than just the movies but an entire era of content.
