Dakota Johnson’s Directing Debut A TREE IS BLUE
>Follows a young woman (Vanessa Burghardt) on the autism spectrum who breaks free from her overprotective but loving mother (Jessica Alba) in search of freedom, friendship, and a little chaos in the summer after high school graduation. Charli XCX plays a free-spirited drifter the protagonist befriends. Johnson’s “Cha-Cha Real Smooth” co-star Burghardt, who is making her screenwriting debut on the film, is herself autistic.

>Debut movie about an autistic girl exploring the world and finding herself

It's a bold move, let's see if it pays off for her.

Female autism isn't real.

You mean Dakota? She doesn't need shit on anyone. She's a nepo baby. Her dad is Don Johnson, Mr. Miami Vice, and her mother is famous actress Melanie Griffith. She was born rich and connected. Her being in movies? Just a formality before a directing/producer chair was pulled out for her

I generally like the idea of it outside of Charli, whom I find a little irritating. The autistic girl was good in Cha Cha playing Dakota's daughter and she seems pretty bright, and it's good to see Alba acting again. I guess it hinges on Dakota's direction, so who knows. Like most actors, Dakota is a film student who can name drop good movies like anyone else, so we'll see.

It's called the money to produce her own movies, like this one. 50 Shades movies made a lot of money, Materialists made a good profit this year. Verity going to be huge next year. Dakota is bankable outside of Madame Web, but no one would have saved that turkey.
