As for the movie, despite being a fan it wasn't great but was enjoyable, demon slayers movie was more enjoyable.

In regards to the topic in hand, if both demon slayer and chainsaw man can make impressive ticket sales despite essentially being tv episodes stretched to feature length running time, then hollywood really is as stupid and pointless as people make em out to be.

It's not hard to make good movies with hollywood money, but to do so, you would have to get rid of the idea of forced diversity (both on screen and in the writer's office) and make something fucking watchable (which means no remakes,sequels, capeshit)

Fujimoto Tatsuki is a talented mangaka, read fire punch by him if you actually want something good

The issue is Chainsaw Man was always meant to be a troll series, similar to One Punch Man, but it exploded in popularity and it got an anime adaption when it shouldn't have.
Then because how publishing companies are, they do not allow you to end a manga even when it should end because they want cross anime/manga purchases to continue on to convert anime watchers to buy the magazine serialization and volumes of the series.
Notably, Death Note creators spoke about being forced to drag out the series until partway into the anime airing.

What most likely happened was Chainsaw Man creator Fujimoto Tatsuki intentionally tried to force the series to end by completely changing the tone of the series into nonsense, at which point editors and the publisher buckbroke him into restarting the series as Part 2 with a new protagonist and retconning the crashout.

Since this is Fujimoto's most popular but worst, most soulless work he's ever done, Chainsaw Man is like a zombie series now written by a broken man, where it wouldn't surprise me if he just lets AI write all of it now.
His publisher is just farming him and work out now, the anime represents what the publisher thinks will make more money.

I remember one time I read an academic paper about the idea that anime appeals to those who don't fully grasp subtle human mannerisms and facial expressions because it often over simplifies or exaggerates them. This would explain why such a large portion of the fan-base is often at least slightly out of touch with normal western society. Sure some animes don't really fall into this and are great at subtlety but they're really the exception and not the rule. Personally whenever I try to watch anime I feel a little insulted at how simplified and dumbed down the human experience is. Still, it probably helps mild autistics understand the rest of humanity, even if just slightly.

I watch neither show and went to both movies, and I will say that as a movie, Demon Slayer was a lot worse. Its structure was fucking infuriating, it's a fight that gets interrupted for an extended flashback explaining the villain's backstory three times over, and you really are expected to know these characters to be able to understand what's going on, not to mention the thing was an hour too long. I genuinely don't understand the acclaim. The art's good, I like most of the characters, the movie homages were neat, I liked the homages to edgy 90s comics, but it just feels like it's less than the sum of it's parts. Feel the same way about Firepunch, they're competently made manga, but I can't understand why people heap such praise on them. I have not watched the anime.

I'm a fan of Chainsaw Man but this arc is fucking filler trash. Terrible pacing, predictable plot and just repeats the same message/themes that were already explored up to this point. It doesn't expand on any of the characters or main plot at all. I recommend skipping it.

International Assassins arc is peak though.
