I want to say that was Cinematech or Cinemateque or something to that effect. I just distinctly remember the "Nocturnal Emissions" version that would play late at night, which featured more violent stuff, overtly horny re-cuts, and more Japanese games (Especially for aforementioned horniness, kek). It got bad at the end and at the time, yes, it did feel like they were shitting it up compared to TechTV and earlier G4. But compared to modern journo bullshit and the eggshells people walk on, there was at least some fun to it and a few odd spots of passion. Plus, Attack of the Show legitimately was a good news breakdown/preview of shit at times before social media took over and cable was still relevant at all, it did fill a niche. Their film sections/suggestions were underrated.

Like several have said, it sucked a bit, but shit wucks infinitely more now. At least there were cute women and humor.

There's a game from a Cheat! episode that I've been trying to find for a long time. So, I think it was a PS2 or a PSP RPG with 2D sprites in a 3D world, it looked similar to Ys but I don't think it was. I remember they were showing you how to do some sort of sidequest and it involved trading with NPCs and at one point you had to catch a fish. I'll probably never find out what it was.

Then it was nonstop Ninja Warriors, Cops, and later Cheaters reruns gradually pushing out the gamer shows. It was but circumstances are very different. Back in the 00s when these shows aired, gaming was still a niche hobby. In the 90s, a station dedicated to nerd shit like video games was unthinkable. Yes it was slop but it was slop catered to people who liked video games and so was a great jumping off point.

But now? Vidya is a $237 BILLION industry. For reference, in 2005 it was only $10 billion. Video games not only no longer qualifies as nerd shit, it's straight up normal shit now. And a lot of things have gone down in the decades since G4 was a thing. In the 00s there were no options so we had to be happy with what we had. But now there are options so there's no reason for anything to remain at the quality G4 was at back then.

I know everyone memes on Horse Armor but from where I stand the event horizon was Xbox Live. Because that was the moment it became canon that the average consumer was willing to pay for multiplayer. aots is a brilliant concept but it would have to change its format now. maybe more like a podcast, but the problem is a lot of the magic of the show was in how goofy/charismatic the hosts and cast was. kevin, olivia, the producers, when sessler would sometimes join, haislip, even hardwick, it all came together brilliantly.

This was kino for a while. did anyone watch? i remember the scandal about kevin buying views that came out but it was actually pretty funny and enjoyable for a while. once they started inviting and pushing terrible co hosts and guests i stopped watching. one of them was unironically a reddit mod.
when it was just kevin and alex and other aots producers it was good.
