Best way to do it is set up a 2 player vs race using two controllers. Set no coms. And just farm double item blocks until you get the item. Game has anti-bagging mechanics so you need to kill yourself after every time box. Also kamek only shows up when you are about 5-7 seconds behind 1st. If you see Boo and the ice flower then you're in the same item tier as kamek

I like MK, but I really don't understand the appeal of this game. It seems like they wanted to innovate, but all we got was some half baked open world, & boring, straight highways between tracks.

Game suffers from the same issue splatoon 3 has: It's trying to accommodate for too many different modes
In splatoon 3 tricolor turf wars ruined the level design
This game was clearly designed around the knockout mode. So if you want to play regular 3 lap races, you have to pick random in the roulette
The issue with that is the items were designed around the straight sections, which is why all the mushrooms are so god damn strong. Not to mention the blue shell is way more common

MKW is that game. And I love it. The p switches, ? panels, and peach medalions are just the cherry on top.

I also love how it's all connected, Grand Prix and Knockout both. It's fun and shows they could easily add in new cups just by adding new routes.

You can get it by just racing but if you want to get them immediately just pick a character, go to free roam, and look for the yoshi buildings, stand, and food trucks. There were complaints about item spam in MK8 but it was generally agreed upon that if one gets good enough to front run it wouldn't be an issue. With World it feels like most people hate the cluster fuck of items. It's especially bad in tunnels. You better hope you have some invincibility to make it through them alive. I was watching a 9.4K "pro player" the other night and he was bagging. He even got put into rooms with 7K players and wouldn't win consistently because he got shit luck with items. At the very least, he was consistent with his short cuts but even he seemed annoyed with item spam.

Bagging too hard in knockout tour leaves you at the mercy of the rest of the pack with god items. I tried staying behind and got fucking assraped. Second match where I tried to stay in a decent placement, I did way better.

My only issue with items is that blue shells feel way too common and too punishing. At least when it comes to stuff like red shells, if you get a double item box in first you'll ALWAYS get something to protect yourself with since you can't get double coins, but with blue shells you're just fucked unless you get EXTREMELY lucky and roll a super horn. If blue shells were limited to once per race, then at least you'd be able to know when you're safe to start frontrunning again.

That said the tracks themselves completely mog 8 in terms of design, holy fuck I hated how 8's tracks barely had any shortcuts or alternate paths, and I hated how weak mushrooms were in that game. Golden shrooms are busted here but I'm fine with it, at least using those requires you to still drive decently to catch up instead of turning your brain off like 8's bullet bills.

I try to hover around 8th in knockout tour. The laps go by so fast that being anywhere further back puts you at serious risk, and being further in front runs the obvious risk of being raped by items. The structure of the mode itself is a bagging deterrent which I think is great.

I've been switching between using Pro Racer Peach and Pro Racer Rosalina, both on the Mach Rocket. I love that there's finally racing outfits for the girls that aren't just blatant coomer bait, but are actual racing outfits.

Also, has anyone who has played this game online feel like the VR system is bugged? I'm currently sitting at around 8700 VR and even consistently placing within the top third of a full lobby often deducts points from me. I know you get far less points for trying to farm players with lower VR, which is a good change, but even in lobbies mostly filled with players with 8000 VR and above I'm still losing points for placing well. Heaven forbid I have a bad race or two where then my VR tanks super hard.
