Both are post facto excuses. The real reason is that the USA pushed birth control too much and now needs mass migration to avoid a population sink like in Japan and South Korea.
Leftists don't get to decide this either, but they are cattle so they have to rationalize why it's happening and why it's a good thing. Most partisan issues are like that also. Conservatives act as if they oppose mass migration even though Trump is opening the doors wide open to Indian immigration.
Wokeness was also part of that. Companies and governments needed DEI to cover up their exploitation of workers, overreliance on outsourcing and lack of action on climate change. Now it's being reversed since it's backfiring in tons of different ways.
