So, I played a bit of fire in the dark. Not bad. A game worth getting for $2 when it's marked down 90%.
Rather blunt about this one being a metaphor for trauma. "revealing your traumas". heh. You know, it's funny. Humans always overcompensate.
Our forefathers went through World War 2 and lived in a world where it was not encouraged to talk about traumas, although it might have done some good back then, for some people.
These days everyone is encouraged to constantly share their traumas, but...they don't really have any, do they? They didn't have a world war. So we're left with games like this, where their dog died. Newsflash: Everyone's childhood dog wound up dead. it's not overly notable.

>>712578814This. The unfortunate reality is if you buy a multiplayer game at these festivals it'll be an indie game that gets 40 players on launch and 0 players two weeks later. They're literal wastes of money. The only multiplayer games you should get are big releases by major companies because they're guaranteed players.

this one was not bad I guess, but the sigils for the regions never fucking matched the regions in my handbook. So I had to go through every region every time because I couldn't quickly narrow it down by which town the adventurer came from.
And for that matter, I didn't know how loot worked. Does a monster have to drop all the loot it has, every time, or could it have dropped different quantities sometimes?
I ended up just approving adventurers with big tits and got fired. I suspect the dev may have anticipated my strategy of preferential treatment for the large breasted.
Ninja Gaiden was a bit of a disappointment. It falls a bit too much into the "modern retro game" trap of giving you the new gimmick "I win button" (the super slash that kills everything) and then making the levels in a hyper specific way where you have to play the way they want you to play.
>Here's a big monster
>Look here comes the enemy that gives you the super slash!
>Uh oh another big monster
>Luckily here's another enemy with the super slash!
It feels more like you're playing a speed run level with a set way to beat it, instead of a typical retro game where you're given your tools and it's up to you to figure out how to use them to beat a set of challenges. There's also the obligatory "invincible dash" which is like a bandaid for "we don't know how to design our levels and enemy AI, if we fucked it up just press the whoopsie doodle button and you're fine".

Surprisingly fun snake-like game where you avoid hazards and collect your soulless mechadragon friends to get to the level's exit. This game like sinker sound reminds me of something you'd find on the dreamcast. For being a simple arcade game it has very nice art and music.

lumina veil is a horror game, you get a pipe not long after starting the game and it can be used to permanently kill enemies rather easily. at least walking doesn't feel like a chore here but it laso feels rather simple, lost interest when I couldn't find where to wash the bloody finger
steel carnelian starts as a rail shooter but that doesn't last much, you move in 3d and have to avoid enemy attacks as you kill them. Feels fine mechanically, art style is fine, though animations are stiff. Not really my kind of thing so I didn't get too far, but I have the feeling it'll get preachy at some point.

First game I tried of the fest and definitely my favorite. Similar to hifi rush's beat em up synced to music, but this one lets you import your own music which lets you do a lot of fun stuff. Even now, a few days later, I keep opening it up to try out more songs. Full game seems to promise a much more in-depth editor which I look forward to. Wishlisted. P.S. Try Train Roll, it works strangely well: https://files.catbox.moe/iytxtg.mp4

>mecha simultactics
Love yomi so a mecha version of that sounded right up my alley. The isometric style and destructive environment is great, but the controls feel clunky. Rather than just having all your moves onscreen you need to constantly go in and out of menus to get to your move/attack/special movelists. Still wishlisted, I'll keep an eye and pray they improve it.

>WiZ
bog standard 4 niggas in a row. The fusion gimmick could be interesting and I enjoy the monster girl sprites, but the combat is as basic as it gets: spam skills, hit the things with their weak element
>Morbid Metal

And if you try to only reel when there's no projectiles, the line tension will fall aand the fish will get away. So you have to do it all at the same time.

If you like JRPGs, definitely check out Quartet
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1307960/Quartet/
This is retro JRPG with some Octopath Traveler style branching stories; only a small bit of one story is playable in the demo (aside from a prologue of sorts), but its very well made. One of the mechanics of the turn based combat is that you can actively swap your reserve characters during battle! They teach it to you in one of the encounters, where none of your attacks are working on an enemy until you swap a character who has one capable of doing so. All the characters, in or out of your combat group get XPs; these devs are good at cutting down tedious shit, but can still build challenging encounters. The story and setting is also interesting; I'm curious where they're going to go with it.
The devs, Something Classic, are particularly based, were supporting Linux back when it was less common, and overall make (and produce) some solid titles. Their big previous game was Shadows of Adam which is one of the better retro JRPGs (also worth playing and dirt cheap now) and they put effort into it, including a DLC expansion w/ NG+, optional super dungeon/superboss, among other new content; they also have a 90s style digital strategy guide which is neat. Based on SoA alone and my interactions with the devs coming to Linux gaming sites to ask for people to test etc.. its the kind of thing I want to support, but even without all that Quartet seems to stand on its own merits so give it a shot

Unfortunately it's a niche within a niche, so I really have to take what I can get here, even if it's pretty bad as a beatemup. The MC of Sinker Sound has big dreams.
It takes a while getting used to the main rhythm reeling mechanic in Sinker Sound, but once you do get used to it, the game becomes awesome. I really love this kind of experience where everything is incomprehensible at first. Reminds me of driving cars in real life. Games from completely different genres that incorporate challenge through rhythm tend to be excellent. Crypt Of The Necrodancer, Hi-Fi rush, Bullets Per Minute, even the demo of Dead As Disco as of very recently. I love videogames.
Truxton is awesome, going 3D for the models was not the best idea but they nailed the gameplay, the game is more dynamic than the original as more bullets are on screen at once but they are a bit slower so it feels more fair and you need less memo, the og game was memo heavy
Gonna buy it

The Yoram demo would have been a promising mystery VN if it wasn't for all the small bugs or issues detracting from the experience. If you paused the game to save, you got locked (and of course save erased), some UI elements were still in Korean instead of English, among others.
You can also softlock yourself during a confrontation. It's a shame because the visuals, music and writing were great save for a few typos or weird sentence structures. Gave it a try. I didn't care to spend time actually figuring out the controls and tried to jump to the other side of my boat which would have worked but there's an invisible wall stopping you. So I tried to just over the side of the boat and drown but that didn't work either. There was nothing else at sea with you so I had no frame of reference to determine if I was moving my boat at all. Maybe if you are a retard dumb fuck, just bum rush the enemies like you would the nes games and optimize when you can you obtuse fuck.
I missed the fest because of Stellar Blade...
Any good platformer?
>>712631108MotionRec is a nice 2D puzzle platformer, the gimmick is pretty interesting, could have potential.
AEROMACHINA is a 3D platformer with great movement, you start off a little restricted but the more upgrades you unlock the better it gets.

So this one was interesting. A lot was going on here at once. They had that 2.5D Sprite thing like in Octopath Traveler, but 3D backgrounds, because that chandelier behind Kudlack is 3D and swings back and forth while she talks.
But they also went with the fixed camera angles from Resident Evil. The gameplay is generally ResidentEvilish with searching for the club key for the club door and the diamond key and so on. That might be a first. No one is really doing the fixed camera angle thing outside of survival horror. Fixed Camera RPG? When you walk around the castle, there are random encounters in typical RPG fashion.
It does have some problems with the camera angles, because it isn't using tank controls in conjunction with them. With the fixed camera system, movement really needs to be determined by character direction, not camera direction or it fucks up. That's an easy fix though. But also, sometimes the doors just aren't visible so you have to remember where, precisely, you walked through, or else you can't go through the door again. Resident Evil always made sure to make the doors visible on-screen.
Still, good enough for a wishlist.
why do devs always keep= that fuck ing ugly default unity font
Did you buy any game after trying it on the fest in the last 2 years?
Is 2025 the best time for Mars Attacks IP game?

fps and horror bros eating good this fest
>Game sets everything to epic by default, runs like ass as a result
>Enemy AI just generally doesn't work if you're far from them
>Drops despawn almost instantly, so you need to be near melee range even with guns to grab them
>Next to no healing, balanced out by enemies being so bad at aiming I could stand still and watch them fail to hit me 5 times in a row
I don't know why people put games in the fest this early in dev

>SalooneryYou can slow time nearly on demand, trivializing everything
>High FructoseAn absolute mess
>Void breakingMap breaking simulator with no real appeal once you get bored of doing that

There are a lot of FPS in the fest, but so far, none of them are even remotely good.

Personally I can see the improvement over Plague Inc and Rebel Inc, though I worry I will encounter the same issue of little to no replayability like I did with plague inc

>>712623227I had fun with it but I'm worried its going to end up CONCORDED with the full release since it has a price tag. Also demands way too much teamwork for a game that defaults to turning of voice coms and forcing crossplay
>>712632661Not really much exploration. There's just a cave you can go into alongside a few other areas. Main focus is still the fishing rhythm game

>>712632725>I am still thinking about GIRLS MADE PUDDING, though I might pirate it first then buy it if I like it enoughKeep in mind that it's actually just a VN, and an unvoiced one at that. The story also gets pretty retarded in some shoddily written sci-fi parts.
That being said it is also extremely comfy, I love the two main girls to bits and the ending completely redeems it.
is it usually lthat there are more high quality porn games than usual games?
