Deltarune does it better by making you actually think about trying to optimise Sparing enemies on the same turn you fill their Mercy bar to max, but it still fails since I've seen people need to be reminded several times that they can even do that. Final Fantasy actually has individualized builds and most of the games even let you permanently affect the stat growths of your characters.
The degree of customization in Final Fantasy is MUCH greater than Deltarune.
The only traditional JRPG that even comes close to Deltarune's level of simplicity is probably the original Dragon Quest, though even that game will randomize your stat growths based on your inputted name.

DR does, too, it's just largely pointless. For example, you can choose to build Ralsei as an attacker or a healer, but healing items are always better than his healing spell and attacking enemies is LE BAD, so neither build matters because he's just going to be spamming ACTs every turn.
The Knight is the only time you actually have think about your builds and what role each character should be specializing in, which is why it's the best boss by far.

Thanks but it's made in Gamemaker Studio 2. It's literally the biggest Gamemaker RPG ever created given its got 50+ hours of content without that game swap feature Deltarune had to resort to. And even with it Reindeer_Story Story is still a bigger RPG at 1/3rd of the price because I'm not greedy and want to give customers good value for money. Whereas Toby Fox is out for pure profit.

These two are visual novels occasionally broken up by fun fights.
Usually you won't find the fun fights on your first playthrough, so good luck slogging through them again trying to get to them, like Undyne the Undying, Sans, Jevil, the Roaring Knight etc.
The story in them is good I guess, but in Undertale's case, the good story is locked behind a playthrough of Pacifist and Genocide, and in Deltarune's case, you need to replay 3 chapters the length of Undertale for an extra 2 cutscenes on its own evil route.
It's extremely boring and its the reason I just beat the new chapters once and didn't bother again. Maybe if you get something at the end of all 7 chapters for going through the effort I'll consider it, but we don't know.
Oh, and Deltarune literally removes the mechanic from Undertale that let you flee from repeat battles.

That one has no real tactic aside from not waiting for them to come to you. Be active in your defense and start dodging them before they get close.

Keep your eyes locked on your heart. Your peripheral vision will betray you if you look at the incoming attacks directly, but if you keep your eyes on your heart, that same peripheral vision will process what's coming at the heart easier.
At least that works for me. I noticed dodging became a lot easier when focused only on my heart and the tells of incoming attacks.

Also, Jervil is the 2nd hardest fight in the game. It's gonna be rough.
