First of all... the Ryzen Threadripper 3970x is a SERVER processor with 32 cores. It's made for SERVERS, not regular gaming.

I have a Lenovo one with a ryzen 5 2400ge and installed bazzite on it. It's nothing amazing, but it can handle things like nu-hitman, dark souls 3, gta V, and a few other new-ish AAA games, so modded fallout and indie stuff shouldn't be an issue.

Threadripper runs extremely poorly, relative to much cheaper AMD chips from the generation, in every game. I know because my home server is a 3990X, but my 5900x which came out around the same time takes laps around it. It is expensive, hot, consumes a lot of power and has shit single-threaded performance. They released like 3 months apart. It is not a rational choice for Windows or gaming. It is extremely rational for virtualization though. I can run trillions of dockers on mine, which currently has 2 7900 XTX cards in a cluster. My 5900X system, which I game on, has a 3090 Kingpin, because it is for gaming. The threadripper + XTX is for virtualization, containers and AI. It would be fucking retarded to game on it in every measurable way. Surely no one is that retarded.

It isn't pushed from the factory. It runs great with a 2800Mhz overclock on air already. Once I have a water block I can really push the memory over the top which is what I need. I can get it stable at 1500MHz over stock on memory with 915mV but starts to get a bit warm. What really gets me with the Switch 2 is that it seems like it's really mostly a Switch Pro in practice at the moment, a complement to the Switch 1, since what it has going for it so far are spinoffs to first-party IPs and upgrades to Switch 1 games. Even Donkey Kong Bananza, the one new non-spinoff we know of, is a radical departure from the norm for DK.

The $450 entry fee isn't outrageous to me because of the hardware value, but because of the current software value.
