>>712891000 (OP)>can't wait to see steam chart threadsSpiritual investors need to be killed
looks like a clone of get out but for streamers to basedface over, how is this supposed to appeal to anyone who actually likes playing good video games.
>>712891000 (OP)i hope they didn't spend too much money on this inevitable flop, i'd hate for Remedy to go under
>only 5 missions
>only 6 weapons
When will devs realise that releasing a live service game with no content and adding everything later is a bad strategy since 99% of people won't come back to it after a couple of weeks.
>>712891000 (OP)Well this shits going to flop.
>>712891478yeah, I don't think literally anybody asked for this eiter
>>712891534It's coming out in a couple of hours and it's not even on steams 500 top sellers list like at all...
>>712891000 (OP)I love every game Remedy has made, and Control is my favorite of them all, so I will be playing and enjoying this.
Is this the thread where everybody pretends this game hasn't been hyped for 2 years like Mindseye and this is the first you heard of it?
Reminder that it's free on PSN Extra, faggots. Played the beta and it's surprisingly fun.
>>712891726No this is the thread where that's true and no one has heard of this shit before.
>>712891000 (OP)I still like remedy but my latest laptop has a truly awful network card or wireless antenna or whatever those things are and I don't feel like paying for online on a console so I'm skipping it.

I watch lots of game trailer shows, and it might even have been there, but I was so not interested I could have forgotten about it after 2 minutes. It's the same like I don't remember 90% of the games shows on the latest Summer Fest, it was all fucking trash.

My only hope is that it completely BTFOs killing floor 3 so tripwire can eat shit like the fucking retards they are.
>>712892764That's the optional supporter shit that they can't list for preorder for some reason
If they add more post launch then I'll concede the point
>>712891838Please understand, they're struggling, Alan Wake 2 took an entire year to actually make money for them and they're still glued to Timmy's deals. This is an intern side project to siphon some cash from Steamies before they go back into the gutter with Control 2 on Ebin and no sales again.
I only ever liked Max Payne 1 and 2.
>>712892564Right now, it's just in-vogue to hate multiplayer. Basically, you've got anons that hate multiplayer in any and every form because they think it is only ever dicking around social fortnite bullshit, and they're amplified by the general audience voicing a lot of ire towards the actual dicking around social fortnite bullshit they play all the time.
It's kind of ironic, how much they're deciding to align themselves with casuals on the matter, but ultimately it is for the purpose of shitting on video games and trying to prevent other people from having fun, so it's still kinda on-brand for /v/
>>712892805>>712892816>I simply NEED to get angry ahead of time about shit in my head that may happenControl your blood cortisol, gentlemen

>>712891000 (OP)they're already expecting it to flop worse than anal woke
>>712893394Dark souls is neither shit nor hard. It's just punishing. Or was, for its time.
>>712891000 (OP)I played the closed test thing and it fundamentally feels bad to play. The guns, of which there was technically only 3 (three), felt and sounded like toys, you move like you're a 70 year old geriatric with a bad hip, and the gameplay loop is running back and forth to ammo and healing stations while you do the same static tedious task the same way for the level, which there almost certainly isn't going to be enough of to cover for the fact that they'll play out the same way every time. The only single positive thing I have to say for it is the Control flavored enemies, but ultimately that's just window dressing for a bad game.
>>712893504Alan Wake fans loved the sequel though.
>>712893624all 12 of them

what the fuck is with this trend? these games aren't even tank / healer / dps type games either. do they think they can sell more copies by having it be three players instead of two? why three?? these games do absolutely nothing that requires 3 people. i'm specifically not going to play this now (same with nightrein) because its 3 players.
getting 3 adults to play shit at the same time is a fucking nightmare.
>>712895180I genuinely believe it's just a development thing. Game runs better with three vs four. Four is harder to develop for. So guess everyone's doing three now. Or maybe all the people making these coop modes only have two friends I dunno.

What on earth do you think is going to happen here? They should be shouting from the mountaintops if this game even breaks 1k concurrent players within the first week. That's how low the bar is set to even get a foot in the door.
Now, I've got no hate for Remedy and will willingly say on record I've not played a single game of theirs, so this post isn't coming from a "lE eP1C dEfEaTeRiN0" mindset, but from a dispassionate objective one. The task to even be seen is monumental, to be a success an order of magnitude more difficult in an already saturated genre of games that's becoming even moreso with the huge success of Helldivers 2 and every publisher wanting in on a piece of that pie (and so far failing miserably).
I hold no grudge against Remedy, in fact if the game gets off to a great start, the more the merrier. A good game is it's own reward.
Do I see that happening? Absolutely fucking not.

But until this thread, I may have heard about the game in passing and dismissed it because no waves were made because of it. As far as this anon is concerned, it didn't exist. And this is coming from an old fucker who has been using the internet since the mid 90's and has kept a decent enough pulse on the field of gaming to know which games made waves (of course with respect to my own tastes, and quite a few outside of said tastes) and not.
Alan Wake showed up on many peoples radars, be it to make fun of it or discuss it, but it showed up regardless. No other game in their repertoire has done similarly, and I have little faith Firebreak will either.

I think this game just puts more bad blood between myself and Remedy as a studio and hence i feel little sympathy for when they don't succeed and that the studio are likely to have suffered significant financial damage for putting out a bad game that won't make them money. As in i haven't really forgotten their past transgressions when they resorted to anti consumer practices by seeking out an Epic publishing deal rather than keeping their games open to all platforms. Therefore they have sinned big time already and shown that they're a bad and predatory company in general.

>>712906392remakes are entirely new games that follow the originals plot loosely

Game's okay. Not spectacular, but fine.
I think it's true that Remedy's never really been a big gameplay studio, they're more about vibes and storytelling and you can feel that here. It feels pretty simple so far, I like how the tools interact with one another but so far the basic game has just been
>shoot everything with my revolver that kills everything in a hit unless it's a big special hiss
>run around looking for an objective you have to collect or complete
>repeat in the next area
>run back to the start and finish
Some of the critiques like "it gets way too hard too fast" or "enemies aren't fun to shoot" haven't really rung true to me. I haven't touched extreme yet but hard has felt easy and forgiving. I kinda like blasting the spastic flying enemies out of the sky, myself. I was also hoping the mechanics would be a bit more raid-y and they haven't at all so far, but maybe that could change a little at max difficulty with modifiers turned on.
I guess in one way it does remind me of Concord is that it feels kind of like a relic. Co-op games like Nightreign and Helldivers are selling vaguely new ideas and this just feels like a simple and kind of standard co-op shooter. I appreciate that they aren't pretending that this is going to be some big live-service game they want you playing every day because it absolutely isn't that, this is a game that at best you play for a little bit and then stop and maybe come back when they drop new content if you feel like it, but I feel like with stuff like Helldivers and Space Marine and Darktide around most people probably won't.
>>712898361vidya is my me-time where i want to be in control. if i want to spend 10 minutes looking at a chair then i want to be able to do that without negatively affecting someone elses enjoyment and vice versa i don't want anyone else to negatively affect my enjoyment either. i want to be able to just pause the game, take a dump for 10 minutes and come back, or answer a phone call or get the door or do stuff that you don't need to know about. but what really made me realize this was playing DMZ in CoD. i was new to the game and immediately got paired up with 2 guys that just rushed to some spot on the map, did their thing and never communicated at all. i don't want those people in my vidya time.

>>712891000 (OP)I got in the playtest a month ago and enjoyed my time with it. It was balanced well for single and multiplayer and I was hoping that the lack of content was just a playtest thing. Now they've only added three more levels and three more weapons with the only progression being cosmetics. I'll buy it next month when it's half off.
>>712906858I just finished a few rounds and have the impression that you saw the entire game after a single mission. Interact with x, maybe do a qte if you are the wrong class, shoot spawning in horde. Sad that it got nothing else going on.
>>712907485>the only progression being cosmeticsthis isn't really true, to the point that it's a mild complaint I have about it. You start off with shitty incomplete weapons and gadgets and need to progress through a battle pass to unlock everything which feels weird for a game which seems to have less content than left 4 dead. they're overtly selling the game on being something you come back to later when there's more content but I dunno you're gating all this stuff I'd like to have behind getting the helldivers samples scattered around the map and I don't really get them THAT fast.
Also like Helldivers it makes you play the lower difficulties to get to the high ones and all the low difficulties suck and aren't interesting.
>>712900063Feels good. The only issue is that they'll constantly spam you with enemies that you can manage but it's hectic in a way that feels overwhelming rather than challenging. Two of the weapons feel like shit and the other four feel like copies of each other.
why the fuck does remedy keep making 5/10 shooters when they could do so much more? qb was ruined by the fucking tv show gimmick so they wasted too much time, control was floaty as fuck and the best way to play is to throw rocks and chairs over and over until everything is dead

>Also like Helldivers it makes you play the lower difficulties to get to the high ones and all the low difficulties suck and aren't interesting.Did they really make that change since the playtest? Higher difficulties is what made those two levels replayable over and over again. Locking players out of that early on just feels weird even if they want to do the Helldivers thing of getting comfortable with each level before progressing higher.

another thing that I was hoping for (and honestly I was hoping for this in Control) is that we'd see more fun anomalous hostile shit that isn't just Evil Red Sound Men. I don't think they're super interesting as enemies, stuff like the sticky note creatures and the anomalous objects like the anchor from the base game are much more fun conceptually to me than basically zombies.
>>712908873you get to use those and weapons and i think there's a few in levels you have to take care of as RNG events
These guys look nothing like the Firebreak from Control either, they look like they took a really cool concept and changed it to try and appeal to lethal company fans or something.
>>712909118this is the original teaser image of the game, so they were going to make it more like this. At some point they decided it needed more "character" but I think people would've eaten this aesthetic up. This teaser makes it look like the oldest house is more functional, "firebreak" in the game is actually different from the typical security in that it's a bunch of untrained volunteers with scrapped-together equipment because the facility has been under lockdown to keep the hiss from getting out for six years straight.

>>712910181There was only one playtest and you couldn't leave feedback at all.
>>712910258I would say the difference is in how utterly tight the gameplay is in every way more than something like the gore system. A Hunter or a Smoker never stops being a threat. The way it randomly doles out supplies keeps things interesting. Crescendo events are cool.
This game doesn't slot together nearly as seamlessly and also the 5 levels don't feel anywhere near as involved as L4D's campaigns. It feels like they're like 3-4 rooms.
I like the random items that appear. The possessed item. Very fun gimmick. Also, I played easy and it was pretty boring. I went to normal, and it ended up having a completely different ending. What happenes on had and above?
>>712892172Your most recent played game is multiplayer.

>>712891000 (OP)aint paying shit for another live service slop. also no demo
>>712911309i'm absolutely right
max payne 1's gameplay is so great that to my knowledge literally nobody has made a spiritual successor
max payne 2 is fine
alan wake 1 is a slog
control is okay but gets boring quickly when you realize how you're intended to play
when critiquing max payne 3 remedy fans never mention the gameplay, they talk about the tone and the writing. remedy fans are huge on the lore and tone and settings, i've never encountered a remedy fan that passionately gives a fuck about their gameplay
>>712911784The telekinesis in control.is just a glorified charge gun
Thats literally it
The only time it ever matters is when its fully upgraded and you can grab way bigger stuff
>>712911784>she can always conjure up some pocket sand to throwyou literally rip chunks of the terrain out to throw.
>>712891000 (OP)this shit isn't F2P? I was slightly interested but there's zero chance I'm paying $40 for any remedy multiplayer game. they have probably 19 or 20 fans worldwide including me so the playerpool is going to be laughably small and will probably be non-existent within 3 months.
>>712912028>max payne 1's gameplay is so great that to my knowledge literally nobody has made a spiritual successorMax Payne with the kung fu mode is the shit. And it's only a thing because the combat in the base game is good.
>max payne 2 is fine It's not "fine", it's one of the best TPS game out there in terms of mechanics.
Also, off the top of my head, there's Stranglehold, which is a spiritual successor to MP games, and there are probably others.
And then there's that racing game they made, I never played it though.
So yeah, Remedy's games used to be well-balanced, but with AW they pivoted to being le weird with little else to offer.
>>712912449it's F2P on game pass

AHHHHHH IM GOING INSANEEEEE ITS SO CUHRAZYYYYYY
>>712912028I think remedy's vanilla tps formula has been detrimental to the experiences they've been trying to make since max payne 2. it makes sense for the hardboiled john woo knock off but not a sci-fi horror game.
>>712891000 (OP)>Are you hyped for remedys new online multiplayer shooter "Firebreak"?>Its launching todayDepends. How much blackrock money have they taken and how many women/brown people do they employ?
>>712912507is stranglehold close to MP1? because MP1 is something very particular in my mind, a game where weapons are really inaccurate until you get the M4 at the end and encounters are borderline trial and error unless you know enemy positions.
MP2 is just a normal TPS
>>712891726I heard about a MP Remedy game based on Control/Alan Wake universe, but only saw a concept art once and that's it.
I thought that it was going to be 3rd person like the rest of their games. Also, no propaganda whatsoever
All you got to do to fix it is either make it $25 or add replayability and weapon sidegrades. Just add a survival mode or something like L4D2 and SHUM you're already get $10 worth of value from that.
>>712891883Inzoi sounds like an anon trying to insult a game through a shitty meme name like "InSoi"
Max's VA is dead, there is no reason to do those remakes without him.
Remaster the old ones if you must but remakes are pointless without James doing Max's voice.
>>712891726I'm not pretending. Never heard of it before just now
>>712915861They're going to reuse his voice 100%. I just wonder if they'll use his face from 3 / Control or Sam's since he can do mocap.

I don't know what they were thinking with this game. I haven't been watching it closely or anything, but every time I saw it pop up at a game show I was pretty put off by it. The weapons look awful, the enemies look uninspired and non-threatening, and it just has the feeling of an inferior Left 4 Dead 2. Why did they think this would succeed?
>>712923846Because they are not finished. Killing Antidote is early access, Shadows is obviously not finished, Inzoi is bare bones, Oblivion is dogshit without mods and Tainted Grail is also getting overhauled with every patch, even fucking STALKER 2 has a roadmap. Seriously, is releasing a finished and complete singleplayer game too much to ask?
>>712924453They knew it wouldn't succeed, which is why it's day 1 gamepass and ps+
>>712891000 (OP)Welp just played it,it's completely barebones with all class abilities locked behind unlocks just to give you something to do missions are short as shit all in all you can see pretty much all the game has to offer in less than an hour
>>712924595Play The Alters.
>>712891000 (OP)>Boot it up because I have game pass, why not>Forcibly changes my monitor's colors>Makes you pick a kit before getting into a game without explaining what any of the kits even do>Everything is washed out and looks like shit>Mission is just turning on one generator and killing one guy in riot gear then waiting for an elevator>Whole thing lasted like 5 minutesI chose the kit that had a speaking on a stick and a revolver, and I still don't know what that speaker thing did.
>>712892902With 1/100th the content of the games that already exist in that genre.
>>712891000 (OP)why does he write like a woman?
>>712924867looks like the game is really focused on gathering and crafting, neither of which i'm a fan.
>>712901463Did they forget to do an internal beta test? Players not knowing currency exists sounds like a major design flaw.
>>712895180>why three??I think it's just easier to balance. Think of balance as a 100 unit load/effort break point per player. So a 3 player balanced event require 300 whatever to defeat. If some shitter does 1/2 that it can still be fun if nerds step up. Getting a 50/150/150 sort of total. Nerds can make up for the shitter.
Now make it 4 with same 100 per player balance. So 400 total for win. Now if you get two shitters, and 50/50/200/200. The nerds can't in most cases do x2. So you just lose or you make the game casual that content can be ran by basically any group, even 4 shitters all doing 50/50/50/50.
So 3 is the magic number
>>712901463despite how much /v/ hates it, this is why yellow paint exists
>>712908101Can't blame you for that but, if you actually check it out it's well worth your time. Finding the Former in the fridge was such a great surprise
No one who is posting screenshots of this game and calling it shit played for more than an hour
Not even seeing any real criticism because it's so obvious you just booted it up, played 1 match and called it a day
This is the state of /v/ now, people who barely exit a game's tutorial before making up their mind
>>712929159>This is the state of /v/ now, people who barely exit a game's tutorial before making up their mindyea you gotta 100% the game to make any sort of call
>>712925419The kits start faulty and once you buy the most preliminary upgrades they become viable for better movement and crowd control
When you replay a mission on higher clearance, there is exponentially more to do and enemies actually impede progress
>>712929159If I am understanding things looking at reviews, there was a playtest
a playtest that contained the same mere 5 maps, with 3 of the 5 game modes.
a playtest audiences were complaining for lack of content
all there remained for a play tester to trial was a mere two game modes, across 5 whole ass maps to sufficiently draw the conclusion its shit, under cooked, and delivers very little for even the B title price tag of 40$.
>>712891000 (OP)It doesn't look bad just a little janky and unpolished. We need more games like DRG but with actual content beyond the RNG generation even if that content is limited to story driven seasons.
>>712930476>It doesn't lookI mean, the graphics are technically nice, yeah, but... are we looking at the same character designs?
What's that supposed to mean?
>>712931087>"varied" reception
>>7128951803 players is a solid dynamic to build around. With 2 it gets kinda gay being alone with your bro, and with 4 you often just split into 2 teams of 2 and have to balance around that instead. 3 is a magic number because it lets you have a team dynamic while still ensuring cohesion because if two of them fuck off to go fap or something then the last guy will usually get overwhelmed by themselves.

>>712892564>made by Remedy, who only produce unbridled kino in every releaseThey haven't made anything good since Max Payne 2
>>712895180Probably because somebody claimed 3 players is an industry statistic in regards to average friend count/reach and something about another industry focus tested stat like "above 3 people in a group there is more chaos" while obviously ignoring that a healthy amount of spontaneous chaos is fun. Western devs operate on dogma. This is the same reason they've all recently convinced each other to use steam wishlists like a horoscope where they'll scrap together a concept preview and only actually make the game if the preview reached some [insert manabi-line steam wishlist broscience metric] figure to turn a profit. They like to blow smoke up their own asses to rationalize an irrational industry so they can later make some post where they'll continue doing so with a few "bias" buzzwords to repeat it or burnout.
