Remove the random fucking tentacles and replace them with a tail with small athropied hind flippers
There, fixed the design, maybe change up the face too if you want to really go in depth

Most character designers just pull random shit from animals without understanding it's function and why it's the way it is
If you design monsters you should be forced at gunpoint to get an autistic interest and knowledge in animals, their anatomy and how they work because otherwise you're just going to cough up dogshit

i never liked the sound design of these faggots, why do they roar underwater?
my contention isn't even a realism thing it's just that even a generic bassy rumbling is a lot scarier than distortedlionroar.mp3
i liked the sounds for the moloch in legacy barotrauma, for example, i think it has a lot of character

I love subnautica and it's like a comfort game where I'll just start up a new save randomly when I have literally nothing to do. I wish there was some sort of randomizer or something to really shake up its formula though. Every time you start the game, you know where everything is, every seed is nearly identical, everything is in the same spots, every biome the same area, reapers in the same areas. I don't think there is a mod for this

That's true for most kinds of death, retard
By that logic, guns don't kill you either
They just shut down your body, making you to bleed out while you're fully aware of it

If the bullet hits you in your spine or close enough to it, it will already knock you out.
Or if your lung is collapsing, which will knock you out long before the blood loss, but because of the lack of oxygen.

Yeah, and? What's your point? Some things can knock you out before you die. So what? As I said, a gunshot or knife wound can and probably will leave you conscious until you bleed out. Does that mean guns and knives don't kill you? Because that's exactly what that post said
>it doesn't kill you
>you just die fully aware of it killing you
Why engage in an argument if the original post just doesn't make sense?

For cinematic reasons, yes he would be roaring, but in reality humans would just run regardless of Godzilla making any sounds if they saw it coming in and destroying stuff. You don't need to hear a threat to know a threat. It wasn't the lion's roar that made humans fear it because it doesn't roar at you when it attacks you as with all predators. The last thing they wanna do is tip off their prey they're coming in with a big loud noise. The roar is used most times in warning others to not mess with it.

Subnautica is still the scariest game I've played and it's not even close. Real horror games have way less impact and are way more pleasant gameplay experiences. Not only because of the environments other horror games have, but also because other horror games tend to not have survival crafting.

Yes and it's very all over the place with quality.
The creature designs are rad as hell, like peepers reversing themselves to use their tails as mouths, and bladderfish just being giant red scabs, but the sounds are just awful with "MAN RUN IN AND HE FUNNI SCREAM" being most of the audio.
The dude in the first picture looks cool as hell and can actually spooky you when he comes in your base, but if you go up to him all he does is get in your face with his dumb skeleton skull and vanish.

I don't even want to talk about the retard in the reactor room, good lord this thing is awful.

Don't listen to the murder dolphin.
It might say it loves you, but its a trick to eat your delicious liver.

Although I'm pretty sure as a species they made the decision not to eat humans because they saw what we did to other animals that fuck with them. No recorded Orca attacks on a human being in recorded history? Not likely unless they made a choice to do that. They're definitely smart enough for it

the first one I ran into was going behind the boosters on the aurora. I thought it was pretty scary being chased by them a few times, though they really are easy to dodge and you shake them easily. Maybe if they had actually designed a way to kill them in a few shots they would be more interesting. I think you're supposed to be a tree hugging biologist so it does make sense u have all the stasis tools instead.

Probably the worst thing about leviathans is that the places full of them (dunes, crag areas) are mostly empty. None of the wrecks out there are really necessary, go get schematics from grand reef and blood kelp zones instead. When the meta play is to just avoid the 'end game' areas it's boring. Cyclops being a pain to drive doesn't help either.

Justification for lack of weapons is that Alterra, company you work for and all the tech comes from, have had incidences of survivors killing each other or colonies massacring themselves, so they only let you have a knife.
Its flimsy but fits into the corporate dystopia vibe.

The people who claim that there aren't any weapons because of socjus shit are only partially right. They weren't going to add them originally but at least one of the creators made it a virtue signal point about it on twatter.

It's tedious but it's the only reliable in game way to do it that doesn't take days out of your life

>And they don't slam their snouts into things
They do just by existing. Its not an intentional hunting method but when you're a 30 mph missile shooting at a seal with your eyes closed sometimes you're going to be off the mark. The shark is the balance point between enough sensory toolkit (including smell) to find prey and being tough enough that you don't stun yourself and lose it half the time.
And even then it's still a valid option to bop the fucker in the nose.
>>712934148
That's because it's not a monster and evolution is a constant game of opportunity costs. You can't be best at everything but that sharks have existed as long as they have as relatively unchanged as they have shows that they're very well optimized for the open ocean.

EA for this type of game seems to work. If they do it like Grounded did, where the core gameplay is all there, and they add stuff every few months in EA, like a new area or tweak this and that, it'll be fine. I think thats pretty likely since I don't see them overhauling engine or mechanics at this point.

They did a Q&A video a few weeks ago
Seems like the way they're approaching multiplayer is building the game for single player first, and then just tacking the ability to play with other people on, at least if you read between the lines. They were very insistent that you could still play it single player.
Which makes sense, really. Because Subnautica has basically no combat there's not a lot to balance there. You're just giving yourself twice the resources and inventory, effectively. They just have to figure out how to balance story moments. Basically make a choice if all players have to be present or if only one can trigger it, or if story changes effect all players etc.

I should double check but I DO think they mentioned doing a silent protagonist again. Which is at least half the problem with BZ. The smaller map being the other big problem. I /think/ they mentioned they're scrapping the truck, but also the seamoth and not brining back the cyclops. All new vehicles.

At some point late in EA I believe one of the devs took it upon themselves to tweet how Subnautica has no guns "because of gun violence" sometime around Sandy Hook.
Now, the game had no real guns that entire time, and the lines about it being a corporate hellscape and thats why they only give you a knife were already present. So its pretty obvious the guy was taking advantage of the game's design to virtue signaling. But that is why the schizos always turn up and complain about the lack of guns in every thread.

>They definitely are going to ingore all feedback about what people didnt like in below zero
Well the first good sign is that they are doing a silent protagonist again like the first game. That alone should hold them back from most of that sort of stuff, at least I'm hoping it will. There's always stuff like the PDA lines to shove shit in with.

For me the most mysterious and interesting part of the game was the area outside the map. I would really love a game like subnautica with more this type of tone. I'd love it if the epipelagic zone was much brighter and had smaller and less intimidating creatures and as you approach the demersal dwellers, light becomes really scarce (little bits of sunlight and mostly bioluminescent creatures and your own sub's light) and the creatures start looking truly horrific and alien. Very little music, mostly swimming slowly, just gradually approaching you...

I also think the monsters are too small. I want bigger fish - WAAAAY bigger, like the size of an island.

It's based off of the Leviathan's description from the Bible.
Primarily from the description in Hebrew texts, the book of Job, and the Beast from the Book of Revelation, which is described as looking like the Leviathan, but more serpent-like and with 6 heads. I mean, in the book of Isaiah the Leviathan is described as "the dragon of the sea".
That's also why it's the deepest leviathan (naturally) and why it avoids human contact. And why there's so few of them.
It is still kinda goofy though, I can't explain away some of the goofiness.

I guess a more accurate description is the inspiration for the Sea Dragon is from the Leviathan in Job. The Bible does describe several sets of eyes, plates like shields, spines, etc.

The people hyping it up must be a bunch of trannies as always. Trannies are the jews of cringe shit. They are always behind it.

You mean like the exact effect of the stasis rifle they put in the game instead, that completely immobilizes an enemy? Yeah, game was absolutely terrifying.

The scariest games are the ones that you can fight back in because you realize that they're stronger than you could ever be. Keeping weapons and guns away from the player makes them think "if only I hade a weapon I could win". Take that away from them, show them they're powerless.
