>>712899986Hard to say. In terms of AAA titles it was the start of taking jewery to new heights. While we've also seen an increase in number and quality of indie games, recently the sheer amount of asset flips, trend chasers and nostalgia-bait eclipses the amount of shovelware over several generations and even makes some of them look good in comparison.
Honestly, I'd also argue we have too many good games as well, which spreads player bases thinner, dilutes conversations and culture about them and quickly turns many of them into FotM as people jump from one popular thing to the next. Feels like newer games have lesser staying power compared to older games because older games had more time in the spotlight during their time before being overshadowed by the next big thing, which leads to more conversations, metahumor and other shit, creating a larger footprint and long term relativity.
