In my rewrite, Kronya fails to replace Monica before that plot is discovered during White Clouds, which gets her demoted. She's no longer commanding a force, and is instead given to Myson as a key assassin. We see her again at the end of White Clouds when she's tasked with executing Alois, but is held off when both Seteth and Flayn intervene. We will hear about her exploits while not knowing she's behind them throughout the first time skip (two years after White Clouds). She's been helping cause a revolt in the Western Kingdoms by killing Lonato's allies and making it look like it's the Central Church--specifically Shamir--killing out of spite for Lonato speaking out against his son's execution. We'd see her in person after the second time skip (three more years after Byleth's presumed death, a total of five years after White Clouds) where she's been given permission to lead again while Myson is mentoring Shez. She ultimately dies because she can't teleport out and gets trapped within her own city-wide snare while the player's army bears down on her in all directions.

Marianne beelines Physic early on, Dorothea beelines Rally Charm to give BEs the most accurate gambits by far.
During the middle sections, their primary kits are similar, Physic, Thoron and Magic CAs. Marianne can then run around with Silence/Aura or Dorothea uses Meteor/Angea Arrow as the endgame spell options.
Many default to Dorothea dancer because its an easy choice to meme with Meteor linked attacks but its not the only thing she's actually good for. That's just misunderstanding the character.

The Three Hopes thing seems to be based on the Agarthans creating Aymr without Edelgard's chance for input in the Hopes timeline. In Three Houses, Aymr's description notes that Edelgard has been carefully inspecting and tailoring the weapon in every step of its development process, meaning that she and Hubert likely investigated and noticed all of the cursed stuff and successfully removed or otherwise negated it despite the Agarthans' efforts. As such, Houses Edelgard can't be enslaved by Aymr, but Hopes Edelgard had no such opportunities to prevent the weapon from having that feature, or no such opportunity to prepare a defense in advance.

That storyline in Hopes still sucks ass. Whoever wrote that should never be allowed near women or children again, it was cursed as fuck and the opposite of what made Edelgard interesting. Azure Gleam would have been far better from even doing something like just copying Raiden and Armstrong's dynamic in MGRR for Dimitri and Edelgard instead.

I think the writing for Hopes Monica sucks. In Houses, Kronya being close to Edelgard at all is highly suspicious, since the actual Monica was never that close to Edelgard and generally didn't care about her. Hopes' writers somehow mistook that for being accurate to the actual Monica, then made her even more fixated! Maybe they were thinking it'd be ironic that she'd become that way after being saved, but in practice it just made it seem like a botch and made Monica a far less compelling character when seeing what the actual Monica was like. Plus, the dynamic feels like the supports where Catherine simps for Rhea so hard that she thinks about getting hurt so Rhea heals her, but where that's just one conversation with Catherine, that's at least half of Monica's entire character.

The reason Edelgard is mentally reverts is because she's forced into her Hegemon form by Thales. It was the experimentation on her and implanting her with an artificial Crest of Flames that allows him to control her. She defaults back to thinking Thales is her Uncle Arundel and being a child because that's the age she was when she was abducted and experimented on.

Hopes' Edelgard differs from Houses' Edelgard because the former doesn't have Byleth to worry about. Edelgard is trying to buy time to see if Byleth, as a former mercenary yet also who's father is a former affiliate of the Church, can be trusted and persuaded to join her cause. Hopes' Edelgard perceives Shez as only a mercenary and an easy hire for her revolt.

Houses' Edelgard has to follow Byleth's monthly missions, which costs her Monica, Lonato, and the opportunity of surprise before the other students and the Church can get comfortable in Garreg Mach. Hopes' Edelgard is able to purge Adrestia of the Slithers and start her campaign because she's operating on her own time table, since she controls Emile.

Without Shez's support, she's unable to move nearly as fast as she does in Crimson Blaze, which is why she's eventually taken out by Thales and forced to transform. Without Shez's support and Edelgard losing her mind, both Ferdinand and Hubert are hunted down and killed by the Slithers. Edelgard was genuinely never going to win in either Houses or Hopes without Byleth or Shez because her Empire lacks Holy Relics. Sylvain's father has been SINGLE-HANDEDLY fighting back THE ENTIRE COUNTRY OF SRENG because of his Crest and Relic. It doesn't matter how many peasant conscripts Edelgard brought, her Empire WILL EVENTUALLY LOSE.

Edelgard was and is a little girl trapped in that moment when she was abducted and violated, just as Dimitri was always that angry little boy who watched his father die.

Also, it's likely that the Agarthans killed the real Monica months before the start of the game, and they'd also have no reason to keep her imprisoned on the surface. Houses Edelgard is also mainly marching along with the Agarthans' plans, which include things like Lonato's mission and the plan to kidnap Flayn, so Byleth isn't delaying her in anything.

Not really. I'm NTA and a Lionfag aside. My favorite scene in 3H is the parlay between Dimitri and Edelgard. Because for just a minute they put aside their assumptions and they just talk frankly with one another. Where Edelgard says the current world order is wrong. That she got fucked over by it. Okay so from what these excerpts depict, Maurice was a psycho long before he turned into the monster he ended up being. Which Nemesis was willing to tolerate up until the loss at Gronder Field. Then for whatever reason he just disappears into a puff of smoke. But he'd already sired children who'd had a hatred of the Adrestian Empire instilled in them.

I guess a couple questions that comes up is who was this "holy warrior" that Maurice managed to kill. I'm assuming it's a Naabatean but it can't be one of the 4 Saints. It also can't be one of the Apostles, which means there's a Crest line that's unaccounted for somewhere. There's also the question of how do you go from Maurice's lineage being in the shadows of angry lords to barely existing and the one that does is entirely devoted to the Empire's goddess?

I know I'll never get answers but I really do love this type of shit. It's like a small window into a bigger world

Detangling the Tragedy of Duscur is a massive deal that requires the game's full attention. Juggling both in the time it has was never going to work. The tragedy of Duscur is way too big to be forced to share space with a continental war. Now this I can agree with. Mainly because in a game about perspective, AM comes the closest at hitting the marks it wants to. For example how everyone rationalizes that day. Because Dimitri and Felix both end up arguing with Ingrid because they're offended at Ingrid's attempts to mask Glenn's brutal murder with stories about honor. Hell Felix falling out with his father was because of Rodrigue making it sound like Glenn did a super duper job getting killed for his country, which is the foundation of his disgust with Faerghus chivalry. But even with Dimitri and Felix being on the same side regarding Glenn, Felix and Dimitri can't see eye to eye because, to Dimitri, he's duty bound to avenge those who died a wrongful death. While to Felix that entire mindset is fucking insane. Meanwhile you got bystanders like Annette and Ashe. Because Gustav's code of honor left him so ashamed that he abandoned home. While for Ashe, Lonato was so infuriated at Christophe being executed for a crime it would've been impossible for him to commit that he led an uprising against the Church, forcing Ashe to kill his own father that he adored. And let's not forget Dedue in the middle of all this who's been made the scapegoat. He just had to accept that everything wrong in Faerghus is the fault of his people. Ingrid's racism and distrust was founded on a lie manufactured by Faerghus nobles and Houses never addresses it. I cannot imagine the cope when she learns of House Kleimen's testimony.

Well it's not that Edelgard just couldn't have worked. Ironically the thing that breaks Edelgard's premise more than anything is the Grimleal knock offs invented to protect her. The problem with the slithers is that they are just kind of lame villains. I think they could have worked as a much more minor element or a much bigger one. If Crimson Flower actually had consequences for basically letting them run free as long as they did, or they were merely around during the school section of the story and were wiped out before the time skip, they might have worked. Like, I get having a straight up hateable villain early on when the sides are generally very black and white. To bring it back to the Rottk comparison, Dong Zhou works as a early antagonist that unites the side. There is a reason though why, even in the most fictionalized depictions, he never ends up staying around. Cao Cao vs Liu Bei is more interesting, Sun Quan vs Liu Bei is more interesting, and even Sun Quan vs Cao Cao is more interesting.

Edelgard vs Rhea is solid. Edelgard vs Dmitri is solid. Hell, I even kind of like Claude vs Edelgard and Rhea. The only real opponent of the Slithers could be in any way interesting are Sothis (Since you could argue the Slithers have a point) and Rhea. But both get written out for most of the story.

Whether you think their actions were justified or not. Whether you think an apology is though or not. The point is that those characters believe it's important to be frank with Byleth. Hell out of everyone, Dimitri is the only one who never lies to Byleth. He's upfront that he's there for revenge and that he struggles with a darkness within him, it's just a matter that no one knew how far he'd go. All that to say it makes it very hard that Edelgard is being upfront and honest with Byleth when even after the timeskip she refuses to have a come to Jesus moment at all.

Agree. Rhea and Edelgard being very similar is probably the part of Crimson Flower that works the best. Arianhod could have been the start of a strong character arc in that regard. She is willing to sacrifice. Her main problem is that she's insanely stubborn. Casper basically calls her out on this in his first support. And while he can be kind of a dumbass, he is utterly correct in that. Her mistake is assuming that she's the only one who can solve everything.

Exactly that Edelgard had a choice she actively chose to work with the Slithers. She chose to start a bloody war she didn't need to do it, she chose to do it.

I don't think that CF being unfinished is the cause, rather the devs simply just didn't want people call CF the evil route, even though that's exactly what it is. They didn't way people to call Edelgard a villain in other routes she doesn't have that limit so everyone is free to point out her many flaws and criticize her as the plot allows. But it only happens to her face once and that's in AM. Though on a side note that's why I like her forging bonds in FEH almost all of them include her being criticized for her stubbornness and penchant for treating herself and her views as though they are god's will.

This isn't the best comparison, since the nukes make Rhea go insane and on a delirious rampage in that mission. In the Lorenz example, he's of sound mind and actively choosing to fight against the faction Byleth chooses.

Crimson Flower still feels like a villain route to me, but one that fleshes out and shows how otherwise good people can turn to or otherwise start enabling evil. Byleth notably never questions Edelgard or tries to really teach her anything upon siding with her, instead becoming an enabler and not being the mentor he should be. Hubert heavily implies to Byleth that Byleth should abuse the bonds with the students at the war camp to further push them into fighting for Adrestia, and the more enabled Edelgard is, the more deranged she becames. Edelgard has all the info necessary to tell Dimitri the truth about the Tragedy of Duscur, and she knows that the Agarthans thoroughly hid the truth to the point where it'd be absurd to expect most people to have connected the dots, and she also knows that Dimitri is investigating Thales.

Instead of taking Dimitri prisoner and telling him the truth to win him over, or at least seeing if that would work, she's already preparing to cut his head off after battle when he can't even move. Edelgard even mocks him as the "king of delusion" despite knowing that the Agarthans have concealed the truth, and after killing him she tries to talk to Byleth about feeling sad and regretting that there was "no other way" even though Edelgard uniquely DID have another way!

Also, Edelgard will rush into the burning Fhirdiad not to save civilians, but to seemingly kill Rhea ASAP out of eagerness even at great risk to herself. Edelgard will scrap her own plan to capture Rhea as an anti-air defense against the nukes, a plan she has in the other three routes before the time skip (she thus knew about the missiles), and kill Rhea. Also, Edelgard hugging Byleth at the end with Rhea in a pool of her own blood nearby might mean nothing, because the game opened with Rhea tearfully hugging Sothis (in a sense) with Nemesis in a pool of his own blood nearby.

Edelgard's Fodlan will be devastated.
