I guess I just don't understand the idea that people don't get how mediocre and poor the game is as a game.
It is impossible to make a good MMORPG without RPG or MMO systems. They have taken away everything we had since ARR in favor of cutting costs, and replaced them with nothing.
All of this cost cutting (the actual strength of Yoshida, intentionally removing parts of the game to make it cheaper to develop) has led to the game being terrible not only as an MMO but also the worst FF game out.
Sincerely in what galaxy did you expect that some random grindy instance that does nothing for characters long-term to turn around Dawntrail when it didn't have the semi-decent story it usually does?

Healers, holy shit healers are fucking terrible.
One button for 27 seconds, one button pressed every 30s. That is 90% of your button presses for any of the four. Most heals are ocgd or just instant so there is no feeling of needing to react properly or plan your casting.
And tanks are just fucking weaker dps that make the boss hit them. Aggro management doesn't exist and the one fucking time they had to actually try they cried until their aoe combo got enmity boosts.

The issue is FFXIV never got any competition. SEGA failed to give them proper competition with PSO NGS, and then you have Bamco flopping with Blue Protocol. Now the chinks are taking BP and chosing to kill it further. This genre is dogshit and thats why the games are all 10+ years old. No innovation and the playerbases for these games have incredibly low standards so it is easy to milk them with little effort. Square Enix wouldn't have stooped to these levels if they had reasonable competition from their homeland.

I know what you mean, I think too many weird types of people with mental disorders came over during the WoW exodus and before that when the game started to gain mass popularity.
Also a lot of niche communities in the game that I knew don't exist anymore due to two things that I can't stand and it's mods (mare) and erp killing rp. That last one drove all the well adjusted sane people away out of the game and it turned into gooner shit 9/10 times if you want to get into the rp scene.

I agree with you, the second life freaks and Terra losers migrated around late SB/early ShB and that was when the community noticeably changed. Even the people I’d meet in game during ShB were incredibly weird. These days I doubt any of them are layover FFXI veterans/early 2000s ff weebs.
