It fucking ruined it. Eternal is like playing a shooter made by a dopamine fried faggot. Complete mechanics bloat. Every fight is a “combat puzzle” where you’re punished for not using the exact rotation of chainsaw > flame belch > glory kill > weapon switch > monkey bar parkour. Quick switching is a dev approved exploit to avoid cooldowns and shit out as much DPS as possible because enemies are bullet sponges. They turned Doom into a fucking chore. There’s zero freedom. Just jump, shoot, manage ammo, repeat.
Shadow Warrior 2 had more soul unironically. You had dozens of weapons, builds, co-op, huge open levels, actual freedom. Wanna snipe demons from a rooftop? Do it. Wanna rush in with a chainsaw katana and lightning fists? Go nuts. The game let you decide how to have fun. Eternal just punishes you if you’re not adhering to the game loop.
And then Shadow Warrior 3 happened. Jesus Christ. They ripped out everything that made SW2 great and crammed it into some half-assed Doom clone. Arena shooter levels, forced finishers, mobility gimmicks, boring weapon roster. All because they chased the “Doom Eternal is le good” crowd. Doom Eternal poisoned the well.
