I played Rune Factory GoA on my Switch 1 while waiting for the Switch 2 to arrive. The difference was absolutely staggering- not just better graphics and faster frame rate, it was much faster in general, the loading times pretty much went away, it played far smother. It's a huge upgrade, basically.

Metroid Prime 4 may be better optimised for the Switch 1, but it's pretty likely you're gonna get a fairly sub par performance on it.

By releasing it with no games they can get all the fanboys out of the way early without needing to worry about any of the people who might buy a console to actually play a particular game. Then later they can release some games and pick up the sales from people who would buy the console to play a game.

This is basically just a strategy to smooth out their sales across time instead of having to frontload everything and lose excess margins to scalpers and the like
