An actual vidya series that's about magical girls with original characters/plot and all of that, with some actual effort put into it and enough games to become at least vaguely recognizable. I can only think of Neptunia as an attempt, but that's not exactly high effort and you might argue it doesn't even fit the definition despite ticking a lot of boxes.

That said, Sailor Moon has its moments.
Was bored enough to start watching it start to finish, it's fun but Usagi is doing the heavy lifting by being CUTE and ABSOLUTELY FUCKING RETARDED.

Seriously, there is disproportionate amount of monsters using restriction attacks, I lost counts of how many fights start with the sailors getting bound. Mind you, it's not an age rating thing or anything of the sort because they are willing to show battle damage, blood, and had the main girls killed on-screen by monsters already.

Naoko is heavyhanded with the IP.
And that is not a bad thing if Dragon Ball is anything to go by with its ongoing legal battle. You're better off letting something conclude than to continue pumping it out for money.

I saw the writing on the wall with the manga nearing EoZ, but still going along with Super's established stuff. It wasn't going to take the original manga's end into consideration without invalidating the investment put into it for a literal decade. Those who want a new Sailor Moon game, you better hope that's all you get. You don't want a new series or even a continuation of it, and I say this as someone who thinks something could be done with Usagi's second daughter and her friends, just leave it as is.

That's true, but even the monster-of-the-week stuff built up character dynamics and themes that paid off later. It's not like Power Rangers where it resets every episode. Plus, if you're doing a game series, those MotW episodes could provide varied boss fights, side quests, or even alternate routes depending on which senshi you focus on. The problem is, yeah, writing past the Dark Kingdom arc would be dicey unless you're super faithful or go the Persona route with a school-life/dungeon-crawl format and make the plot drip-feed over time.

Magical girl shows became more of a revolving door since Pretty Cure. That business model is to refresh every year or so like Kamen Rider, Metal Heroes or Super Sentai instead of trying to keep one generation of an audience for years. You can check out any time you want but you don't have to stay.

Sailor Moon peaked in the 90s because a good chunk of its core audience started very young and the run was enough to where it could end before they grew out of it. While it did run parallel with Dragon Ball Z for a point, most of the demographic moved on with their lives unlike Dragon Ball which attracts new audiences through reruns and old fans still buy the games. Videogame market's become more failure averse since budgets have skyrocketed and I don't think a Sailor Moon game could be made unless they're sure an audience will buy them and they're not thinking of anyone but the intended demographic for them.

Neptune has ocean/water powers, Uranus has wind/electric/earth powers, Pluto controls time, Saturn is the goddess of destruction and can just Thanos Snap shit out of existence.

Moon only has finishing moves, that purify victims and vaporizes monsters. Think White magic.
Mercury is Ice and kinda Fresh Water. Provides analysis and fog that hides them from enemies, but barely has any attacks.
Mars can shoot fire at you, and also has Miko magic that actually works on monsters.
Jupiter can summon lightning, and in the Manga and Crystal, vines as well.
Venus has the same moveset as Yusuke Urameshi, single laser beam, then shotgun. Also has her "Venus-Love-Me-Chain", which is just a chain she beats you with.
Uranus can fire an energy ball that hits with the force of an earthquake, and has a sword that fires beams.

I enjoyed the first season, solid enough with the only real flaw being introducing Minako too late, she is effectively a non-character until R. Overall it does a good job at most things.

R had some weaker moments but absolutely made up with character focus episodes, some decent fights(!) and a good dynamic in the first half with the ayys disguising themselves as students. Ayakashi Sisters started weak as well, but actually ends up pretty well. Some good shit in the final episodes. Chibiusa was cool here.

S dropped the ball in many aspects, the only thing they are really doing better is the monster designs. Chibiusa shouldn't have returned, especially not as a sailor senshi who can't do anything either way. It's not even funny after the first time. Not sure I care about Uranus and Neptune, but at least Pluto is more of a character now.

Yeah, pretty much this. All of Mamoru's forms are reasonable competent and often literally saving the princess. I remember when Tuxedo Kamen goes away and he puts on an Arabian inspired getup to do the same job while keeping himself at a distance. Not to mention all of his Prince Endymion forms (evil and otherwise). Sure, the girls are the ones primarily there to banish evil because its their show, but he's certainly competent and desirable.

I can't remember which of the games have him as a playable character now that I think of it.
