Midna is a Poochie, the game is about her. She steals the entire focus of the plot to the point that the confrontation between Link and Ganondorf actually feels shoehorned in. He doesn't even talk to Link, he ONLY talks to Midna, until he beats her off-screen and then suddenly Link and Zelda are teleported out of castle and have to fight Ganondorf instead.

I have a few issues with it, even though I think Midna is the best character in the series.
1)Pacing. The game pads out certain sections to be too long, and I've reconsidered replaying it due to it. The beginning is the most notorious example, but it does feel like a slog in other areas.
2) It's just not as fun to explore as other Zeldas of the era imo. Skyward Sword suffers the same fate. I just didn't like exploring Hyrule that much, as it didn't feel like there was much there. There are a few gems (the fishing hole is really chill and Lake Hylia is nice to look at) but the majority of the map is uninteresting, and I only did it for completions sake
3) Midna steals the show. Outside of her, there aren't a whole lot of good characters. Maybe because of her large amount of development, the other characters really feel like they have the personality of a plank of wood (Ilia especially). I feel like they could have spent just a little more time fleshing out the other characters a bit. Would have liked to see more Ashei, Telma, Luda, etc. I don't know about Illia since she never seems to have a personality in the first place

Everything around the starting village is just a slog, and the characters there are as barebones as you get. Collecting light essence becomes a slog hella fast whenever it comes up. Also the game pulls a lot of "Start something as normal link (but you arrive as wolf link), then have to continue it right after triggering it as wolf link, to then turn in as normal link" more times then I care to count that pads things out a lot worse.

I think the worst part is that the slog is not even to pad the time, not like Wind Waker where they just ran out of time and added a huge pad at the end. The game would be plenty long without that shit, and that almost makes it more annoying to plow through.

Did a 100% playthrough of the WiiU version with some friends a few years back. Made it so we rotated who played whenever we got hit by something (not just enemies). Yeti snowboarding was both fun and infuriating because that rule carried over to that too.

If we ever did get a sequel, by the grace of whatever unholy monkey god, what would it even be about? Link going back to the realm of shadow to find Midna is a given, but in terms of big baddies it might be tough. Best I can think of is "the super secret dark god of the middle tri-force section" or something like that.

Given it's about Link going into the realm of shadow to rescue Midna, you could make it like Link Between Worlds and have the villain be either circumstance or even the light world. Ive actually been turning over the idea of a "I can't believe its not Midna and Wolf Link!" game. Were the wolf sections of TP any good or are my rose tinted glasses getting the better of me? And if I did actually develop it what would you like to see?
I know that the Midna stand in should be able to aquire different masks for new abilities, but beyond that Im not sure what to include to make the game appealing beyond "ImP aSs AWoOOoGaH!!!"

Now that I think about it, it really was kind of weird to just turn link into a wolf. In MM he was turning into all sorts of things, so it's not transformation itself that's weird, it fits within the Zelda wackiness. But just a wolf, like not even a variety of animals, and he doesnt even get magic wolf powers other than Midnas help. Like he's just an actual wolf, its bizarre when you think of what else they could have done

The Zelda series has always had a connection with transformations between Majora's Mask, Wind Waker taking over seagulls, the various transformation rings in the Oracle games, and even Zelda II with the Fairy transformation spell.

If you look at A Link to the Past that Link turns into a bunny, because the dark world's magic warps him into a truer representation of himself. He's just kind of a dude. TP Link just has a more basic-bitch fursona.

TP was by far the absolutely WORST main-line LoZ game ever made.
