They are not all straight retard. Furthermore the relaxing intermissions that exist are a nice break and buildup to the amazing graphical wonderland the key spots are. It gives karts with a higher speed time to shine and also.. it's not my fault if you don't make use of the ton of shortcuts they all have and can't aim items. The intermissions introduce a pleasant rhythm to the game that the game and primary tracks were designed for. If you don't like it just think of it as a qualifying race. I didn't like that most competitive players wanted to control the chaos by selecting random for a bigger chance of geting a controlled environment that could get them a first place becuase they practiced bullshit on time trials. Connection tracks allow for other players to have a chance at winning by getting lucky at the connection races. Controlling the chaos only results in the chaos fighting back, and this time it bit the competitive side hard in the ass by trying to control the chaos.

Nintendo's Mario Kart World is a large open world. The gimmick is that you drive on the road from track to track, visiting the different locations.
A race will only have 1 lap on the actual track, and 2 laps on the "between track driving" segment. So-called "intermission tracks".

The tracks themselves are actually pretty well made, some of them at least. But the intermission tracks are NOT well made. They are usually straight lines. They have extremely long off-road cuts you can take, making bagging overpowered. The best strategy on an intermission-track race is to barely play the game, until the last half lap. Your placement in the race will be entirely determined by your item pulls in the last few sets.

The ONLY way you can actually get a 3-lap race in this game is to select "random" from the menu. So it became customary for almost everyone to select it. Competitive leagues were starting, and the rule was, everyone HAD to pick "random" or you would be disqualified.

Nintendo's newest update is essentially removing that option. Now you HAVE to play the intermission-races if you want to play online. Basically destroying any fun or competitive aspect to the online gameplay

DK Spaceport is awesome and one of the most popular tracks in the game.
Mario Circuit is soul incarnate due to its huge historical nod to the first game.

It's weird that you claim 8's sectional tracks are better. The game launched with 2 of them, MT. Wario, which is excellent, and N64 RR which is terrible. Blink and you'll miss it.

The different is Big Blue or Wahu were specially designed for what they were, you're getting a track that is straight up focused in its one-run gimmick to only ever work that way every time. When you have to make a bunch of highway roads that NPC cars can navigate which connect each track in a real-time space, and these highways have to be interchangeable for every notable race-to-race intermission, the most you can do is throw on some generic boosters and maybe mess with NPC spawn probability for vehicles you can ramp trick off of. Without that specialized focus and design, these highways become bland as shit.

It fucks with the tracks, too. A big thing for Mario Kart is discovering shortcuts and routes, trying to optimize how you play mid-race and reacting to what other players do each lap. Now you only do one lap on the tracks, so you get like no time to care, it just segues into a straight run and nothing else. Every track is already notably wider because they have to accommodate for 24 racers going through at once, but they obviously are just lacking some of the distinct refinement of prior games because now every course has to be entered from free roam / intermission too.

Not really. If you start a race in one track, you only have a couple intermissions to pick from for adjacent tracks. So you'll then see those same intermissions over and over and over. The bread and butter of Mario Kart is racing laps around a track. In Mario Kart World, the new racing format is a drag race down a straight road until you get to the track, and then you only do one lap around the track instead of the usual 3 from past games. This is an issue because it’s not fun at all and only a very, very small subset of extreme Nintendo dickriders like it. Luckily, we figured out that during the map selection screen for online matches, if everyone just chooses the random course option it will ALWAYS give you a traditional 3 lap course to race instead of the boring new drag race. Everything was good for a few weeks, and almost every online match ended up as a 3 lap race. Nintendo caught wind of this and basically made it far, far more likely for you to end up with a drag race, and now you only have around a 10-20% chance of getting a 3 lap race. So the game is just fundamentally dogshit to play online now
