The AI is too primitive, although I like what they were trying to go for.

GRID Autosport is probably the opposite end (the AI is actually pretty ruthless but the game itself isn't as interesting as GRID).

HP2010 looks nice and the sound design is A+, but I found it a pretty frustrating experience overall. The rubberbanding is horrendous and I didn't really like how it basically forces you to near flawlessly drift through every corner. I also wasn't a fan of the unlock system where you'll still be unlocking cars a tier behind where your next missions are, so if you're just trying to bang them out and complete them you'll probably be stuck in the same cars for a while if the mission doesn't force you into a specific one. The car selection isn't too great in higher tiers either as you'll mostly be driving Porsches and Lamborghinis, especially if you're playing the Remaster.

Playing NFS Underground for the first time in years. I forgot how weird the progression is in this game. It takes fucking forever to unlock shit and then you get useless things like vinyls when what you really want is upgrades. Oh, and drag races are easily the absolute worst event and I hate doing them.

not sure where you played it, but i had it on n64 as a kid
i replayed it on n64 much later and still had atleast some struggles
mainly. it had absurdly low framerate in sections
and if your analog stick was worn down it made it a lot harder to reliably charge up your boost by pressing forward as it would stop registering or have weird deadzones

pic related, my main nigga

recently played a bit of BalliscNG
i appreciate the many settings for stuff like camera and visual effects to tweak and turn on or off

but I find I just don't really like how most tracks are always the same super narrow width wich gives less room for error with the icy physics and doesn't let you really decide what racingline to carve if that makes sense
I still enjoy f-zero games more

also the mariokart type items are more distracting than fun imo

anyone got any other recommendations? I already played redout and sadly my pc couldnt run redout 2 well enough

I don't have a Switch 2 so Fusion is out of the question, but I have been tempted to get back into Fast RMX. I got it back when I first got my Switch and played a little bit of it, but I got discouraged pretty quickly when I was doing really poorly even on the lowest class. I feel like I gave up on it too quickly and I could probably do better if I sat down and gave it a chance.

Never really been too much of a raceist. Not sure why. I have had fun with these games but they seem too normie fuel for my liking perhaps. Wouldn't even really know where to start besides playing NFS games and the more nerdy sci-fi driven games or maybe the kart racers.

Now that I think about it I think the game is Motor Storm for PS3. It was a launch title. That one seems fun. I also played a lot of racing games of all types way back during the PS1 and PS2 era including a bit of Gran Turismo. Not sure when this genre seemed to decline as some anons have said but it always seemed to me EA was largely carrying it with the NFS series. And if Forza and GT ever also declined which considering Sony and MS currently I can easily see this being the case, then I can see why the genre as a whole had a massive decline as some are saying.

This is the only burnout game i've beaten, and it's sad because it has the worst soundtrack. 3 and revenge have those crash/demolition events where you have to commit terrorism and rack up as much damage as you can, which i hate. Dominator literally is just racing and crashing cars.

>narrow roads

I tried i really tried looking for games similar to it but they all don't have that degree of control and difficulty. I mean, Tokyo extreme racer is close but that game looks too easy and boring since most races are on straight roads with wins decided by car upgrades rather than "extreme" racing

How is the new F1 game? I've noticed there's been this really big push for F1 this year what with that new Brad Pitt movie and both Lego and Hot Wheels doing a lot of F1 cars. Feels like they're trying really hard to ignite interest in it, especially in the US where people have historically preferred stock cars/NASCAR.

There is a good time frame where you can brake without pushing in the clutch. Typically if your RPMs fall under 1k then you should probably push in your clutch, but ultimately it depends on your car.

The 2 is rubbish compared to the 1, it's painful to even compare them. Generally 1 is truly a rare case of a perfect game. The physics of those little cars, the way they behave on the track, all of that was lost in Generally 2, even after several updates.

Does anyone here play Forza Horizon 5?
I wanted to know how to deal with ABS off on the controller. It doesn't seem very intuitive to me. I sometimes lock up the wheels even when braking at very high speeds, which would never happen if I were in a simulator using pedals. I can't get used to that shit, so I'm getting terrible times...

What the fuck are you two on about? The AI is literally one of the best parts of GRID1. They're aggressive but they acknowledge and respect your track position, they take good lines but they don't always get it right, they fight for position not just against you but between themselves. It's dynamic as fuck and makes every race feel exciting

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBisrN0gOQY

Unlike in most track racing games like Gran Turismo where the AI is stilted as fuck and just drives on rails, racing in GRID genuinely feels like you're going up against other players, it's fucking amazing

I suppose this is something that much easier to figure out in practice. As another anon has mentioned you're supposed to push in the clutch when it gets below 1k RPM's, but when you have to brake suddenly it all happens so fast and the timing is tight. It might appear that you're braking and pushing in the clutch at the sime time, but yeah braking should come first. You need engine braking to help you and you can also unsettle the car if you put it in neutral suddenly.

They hadn't mastered "imperfect" AI at the time. They made a big deal about making the game responsive to racing psychology and mind games allowing you to disrupt AI racers by breathing down their neck but in practice it's too arbitrary and tends to clearly have "time to screw up" moments rather than responsive AI that looks like you made it fuck up.

That pic you posted is 100% Forza Horizon 5, and the explanation is simple: it was written by marketing teams who want to sell items within the game. It all sounds so corporate and artificial because that's exactly what it is, just a marketing team supported by a few psychologists trying to write something that will increase sales in that pseudo-scientific way that corporations love so much.

It probably does what motorstorm does in that it goes through a bunch of scripts when they'rein front of the player. The issue is that it felt more natural for motorstorm due to the nature of the game. Here it sometimes feels arbitrary depending on the track and car class used.

Things like tyre blowouts are obviously randomly scripted, but when they spin out they can actually recover from it, it's not an instant lose condition, see the vid here https://youtu.be/eBisrN0gOQY?feature=shared&t=262 (at 4:22)

There is, it's a game that naturally caters to speedrunners so not only will people spend from tens of hours up to thousands (!) on a single track to shave thousenths of seconds (which is a little buggy because of how the game is programmed), they'll try to pull off 1 in a 100 chance shortcuts just to save on time.

I'll ask here since I don't know where the fuck else to ask. One day for seemingly no reason my controller stopped working with underground 1, and only this game. The controller in the options shows up as second keyboard and it's impossible to bind any keys on my pad. I have the widescreen patch applied so it should just work with any xinput pad.
Does anyone have a clue wtf is going on? The pad is 8bitdo 2C, it's just recognized as a generic xinput pad and it worked before no problem but one day it just fucked itself and I can't find any answers.

i like it a lot, the driving itself feels really good and the stages are pretty, the "repair time" during events feels kind of pointless in its current state though, unless you're bing bang bonging all over the place every single track you're always gonna be able to fully repair whenever possible

Still waiting for AI racing, but there's a lot of time trials and you can sort of setup chases. My most time spent in the game is fucking around with other people in the multiplayer mod, but once AI racing is added I will be all over it. BeamNG is one of the best driving games, it's very overlooked simply because some core features like bots are not implemented yet. Some might be turned off by visuals, but this is the price to be paid for the soft body physics.

I was interested in it, not a fan of how they handled the art direction. It looks worse visually than the old games that inspired it.
Also a personal grievance of mine are fake real cars. If the game has fake cars I prefer if they make up their own models instead of lazily recreating real ones and only change the names

I don't know if it will help but try "The 8BitDo Ultimate 2C controller supports both XInput and DirectInput modes. To switch between them, power off the controller and then press and hold [X+home] or [B+home]. This will save the selected mode. The controller also supports 2.4g wireless and USB connections, with the 2.4g receiver defaulting to XInput mode on Windows"
It's a old game so it probably needs to be in direct input. You can test it on https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad to see if it is.

Stop being a pussy, if it helps, go out of town and get used to speeding on the backroads. I don't even know what's going on anymore, that website you linked always shows my pad as a xinput device. However windows appears to recognize my pad as three different pads and using PCSX2 to check xinput/dinput it looks like they're both enabled at the same time? How's that even possible?
Is this pad fucked and should I just return it? But it works in all other emulators and games I tried it on so I'm just confused as hell.

Do you have another controller connected? If yes, try disconnect it to see if it works.
Try the button combinations I posted, it's how you enable xinput or directinput. Some old games only recognize directinput controllers.

Man I was having a bunch of issues with PCSX2 and my controller yesterday, what worked for me was going into the PCSX2 settings, enabling Dinput and disabling everything else, making sure my pad was set to Dinput and there are also some games that don't work right when I hit the "mode" button which I still don't fully understand the purpose of because the xinput/dinput switch is on the back
Exiting steam might help too if you have it open. This is similar to what was happening to me.
