Sonic Prime might have been a dud as a show, but Frontiers and Generations X Shadow sold well, and thank to said partnership with Paramount, the next Sonic racing game is gonna have Spongebob. The crossovers that have sets and not just SL "drops" (this sonic thing for instance is just the 7 sonic cards and whatever they reprinted with sonic art) will have similar ratios with maybe more reprints in the base set

There's a program called Forge that will let you build decks using every card ever released and play against AI opponents or online if you can find another player, all for free. It also has a single-player campaign similar to the old PC Shandalar MtG game.
You could also download Shandalar 2015 off of internet archive and build decks using most cards from Alpha to Revised with select cards from the early expansions like Arabian Nights and The Dark. Can play against AI, multiplayer is broken.

The lore was what was a bit more engaging as a player into piecing together this world and letting your imagination run. Even with the books that used to come with the older sets, while it being fleshed out may not have always been good, it was still welcome. It's less about that and more the magic built a system that was all encompassing enough to be applied to anything, so anything could become a magic card without it feeling out of place. Wizards has been playing with the idea of a sixth color for years, but they've never added it because the 5 colors, or some combination of them, already cover anything it could be.
Magic's system is so universal you can take any character, and ask 100 magic players what color(s) they would be, and the vast majority would come up with the same answer.
