Amazing. Everquest had broken ground on full 3d MMO but the combat was janky. WoW did better worldbuilding, better stylized graphics, and super smooth combat. Hanging out in a huge 3d world with friends was incredibly novel at the time, and next level comfy.

In pvp some people became infamous, like really big gankers. I remember on my world it was a rogue and druid, the druid was just really hard to kill, but the rogue was a psycho. There was also only really raiding and pvp as "endgame" and a lot of people did pvp to get the gear as a springboard for pve, so bgs and arenas were always populated. Also since flying hadn't been added or was expensive, pvp happened a lot more, and you were generally more paranoid about getting jumped.

When do classes come alive in mop/Cata? I'm only lvl 17, but this is my third level 17 character because it's not clicking, despite the fact that I know I'm nowhere near the point of "coming online". I've only tried shaman warlock and hunter.
Do Frost DK or Rogues (any spec) feel like their retail counter parts. I mained all 3 Rogue specs and offmained Frost DK from Legion through the start of Shadowlands (haven't played retail since really)

It was just a novel concept back then. For most people it was simply amazing that you had this massive world where you could just walk around and meet people. The first year there wasn't really anything where you could look something up, after that you got thottbot etc, but you were basically on your own. The servers were just big enough that there were enough people to make it feel huge, but also that you always ran into someone you knew. No one really knew what they were doing, guilds were highly competitive and exclusive. It was just a great experience. The gameplay was also fantastic, the world building, the music. It's one of the greatest games ever made.

They're just a terrible, weak class that feels garbage to play. They've been on the wane for years and TWW was where it finally completely fell apart since they are indisputably the worst class in the game with the worst hero talents, the clunkiest and shittiest rotations, they're STILL reliant on their cooldowns and stealth (in fact they made them even more reliant on stealth openers for damage) which is a major problem in stuff like M+ (tank pulls more mobs before you can restealth? Your DPS falls apart) and on top of that they require 10x the effort for the same DPS as other, much easier and much better together melee classes. They basically don't exist as a class at this point and if it wasn't for them being a legacy class and having diehards who will never play anything else, they would be at 1% or less playrate wise.

I played from 2004 up until near the end of Wrath. A few key differences back then compared to playing that same content in the Classic era:
Servers had actual communities. Due to technical limitations servers could not handle anywhere near as many characters compared to today so instead of queueing in a pool of tens of thousands you'd spam trade for a pool of the several hundred at best who were interested in running the content you wanted to do. If someone was deadset on a grind for a particular item there was a very good chance you were going to end up in a party with them numerous times when doing that content. This also meant your actions and reputation actually carried a degree of weight.

Everyone was retarded. Optimization didn't really hit its stride until TBC and even then it wasn't really fleshed out until Wrath. For a long time people were just vendoring Edgemaster's Handguards because every single person was convinced the item was trash when in reality that level 40 something world drop is best in slot until you down C'thun. There are a ton of blues that are better than epics and many epics which are just fucking shit but people used them because they were purple. Only a very small handful of bad items(such as "Vendorstrike") were actually recognized as being bad.

Being in-game was something you did to socialize. There wasn't any centralized chatting service that people used like Discord is today so if you wanted to talk to your guildmates you either had them all on an instant messenger like Skype(which very few people did) or you just talked using in-game chat. This is a large part of why MMOs back then had a fuckton of socializing going on whereas today you primarily just see advertising services or retards taking politics bait.

People were way more naive regarding the Internet in general. Whenever I needed to afk there was a certain excuse I used and it worked every single time without fail but today it wouldn't fly and I'd get kicked.

My biggest issue with this scene is that WoW machinima had gotten really popular by this point so Blizzard took that as an excuse to try something lower-budget instead of a full on CGI cutscene but they weren't anywhere near the level of the better fan creations so even back in the day this looked low effort in comparison to what was plastered all over WCM.

I mean, we all would have loved more full on cinematics, especially for the end of arthas's story as lich king, but I always thought it looked good. It's less flashy like some machinmas were, which helps keep it grounded and it also allowed them to go for much longer as they are way less arduous to put together.
They did put more emphasis on the story with wrath, so I don't really see it as an excuse, but rather just a tool for climactic moments.

I am very anti-m+. It's a rat race I participate in for ~2 expansions if we don't count the brief jaunt during Legion. At that time, it was already starting to turn me away, but I did it because friends, and because it was basically forced homework to get anywhere at all.

idk what that is but i doubt its the kind of content im talking about. the main limiting factor in osrs endgame is skill, not really gear. in MoP i used to think i was pretty hot shit when i did the fight club thing before new tiers made it completely obsolete as any kind of skill challenge. another facet is simply the lack of skill expression in wow compared to osrs. the best players in osrs can reach like 10 actions per second while flicking their mouse 400 pixels to a 10 by 10 pixel area and wow doesnt really have anything that compares mechanically, so you'd have to balance encounters around numbers more so than precise execution.
