>>713881447No discord, so all you had was ventrilo, which someone needed to pay to get a server for, mostly in guilds for raiding, and skype, which was like 2 or 3 people, so most people talked more in guild chat and in the game, making the world friendlier. Google was less advanced and no reddit for looking shit up, so everyone was on their world forums talking shit, warning about people who stole items or were trouble, or recruiting for their guilds. Also, most guilds had their own website, and if you wanted to join you'd be directed to their website by a gm or officer in game or see it on the forums and have to do an interview and fill out a survey to try and get invited.
Back then there was a lot less raiding for gold and carries as well, or at least I don't remember ever seeing it. Before dungeon finder people also got reputations for being a good tank or shit, good healer or shit, good damage dealer, or a rep for not ccing or being shit at it, some guilds got reputations at being trustworthy or scumbags, people would warn you about people and their guild that fucked them over. In pvp some people became infamous, like really big gankers. I remember on my world it was a rogue and druid, the druid was just really hard to kill, but the rogue was a psycho. There was also only really raiding and pvp as "endgame" and a lot of people did pvp to get the gear as a springboard for pve, so bgs and arenas were always populated. Also since flying hadn't been added or was expensive, pvp happened a lot more, and you were generally more paranoid about getting jumped.

It was just a novel concept back then. For most people it was simply amazing that you had this massive world where you could just walk around and meet people. The first year there wasn't really anything where you could look something up, after that you got thottbot etc, but you were basically on your own. The servers were just big enough that there were enough people to make it feel huge, but also that you always ran into someone you knew. No one really knew what they were doing, guilds were highly competitive and exclusive. It was just a great experience. The gameplay was also fantastic, the world building, the music. >>713881869To think Rogues went from being one of the three most popular classes in the game capable of fun like this to where they are now, where even Monks are more played. They're barely even ahead of Evokers at this point, a class only one race can even play. Truly wretched.

I want to say most of the playerbase just ignores the story to push mythic keys or heroic raiding. Wouldn’t be surprised if over half of max level players knew nothing of the story/landscape aside from how to get to instance entrances.
>>713898861>horde players are mostly fine with being the bad guys
>>713898586>server stabilityDid blizzard finally fix their servers?

>>713898832They're just shitty, they press a lot of buttons to achieve less DPS than a paladin smashing his head into his keyboard. Also despite the fact that they've rendered the open world PvE super safe compared to vanilla, they're still the only class that gets fucking owned trying to fight more than 2-3 mobs at once
>>713898861its clear the writers have a huge chip on their shoulders and think the primary concern of their writing of this work of fantasy is political commentary on real world issues.
>>713898832They're just a terrible, weak class that feels garbage to play. They've been on the wane for years and TWW was where it finally completely fell apart since they are indisputably the worst class in the game with the worst hero talents, the clunkiest and shittiest rotations, they're STILL reliant on their cooldowns and stealth (in fact they made them even more reliant on stealth openers for damage) which is a major problem in stuff like M+ (tank pulls more mobs before you can restealth? Your DPS falls apart) and on top of that they require 10x the effort for the same DPS as other, much easier and much better together melee classes. They basically don't exist as a class at this point and if it wasn't for them being a legacy class and having diehards who will never play anything else, they would be at 1% or less playrate wise.
TL;DR
Current Blizzard can't balance and design classes for shit so Rogue is unplayable.
>>713881447I played from 2004 up until near the end of Wrath. A few key differences back then compared to playing that same content in the Classic era:
Servers had actual communities. Due to technical limitations servers could not handle anywhere near as many characters compared to today so instead of queueing in a pool of tens of thousands you'd spam trade for a pool of the several hundred at best who were interested in running the content you wanted to do. If someone was deadset on a grind for a particular item there was a very good chance you were going to end up in a party with them numerous times when doing that content. This also meant your actions and reputation actually carried a degree of weight.
Everyone was retarded. Optimization didn't really hit its stride until TBC and even then it wasn't really fleshed out until Wrath. For a long time people were just vendoring Edgemaster's Handguards because every single person was convinced the item was trash when in reality that level 40 something world drop is best in slot until you down C'thun. There are a ton of blues that are better than epics and many epics which are just fucking shit but people used them because they were purple. Only a very small handful of bad items(such as "Vendorstrike") were actually recognized as being bad.
Being in-game was something you did to socialize. There wasn't any centralized chatting service that people used like Discord is today so if you wanted to talk to your guildmates you either had them all on an instant messenger like Skype(which very few people did) or you just talked using in-game chat. This is a large part of why MMOs back then had a fuckton of socializing going on whereas today you primarily just see advertising services or retards taking politics bait.
People were way more naive regarding the Internet in general. Whenever I needed to afk there was a certain excuse I used and it worked every single time without fail but today it wouldn't fly and I'd get kicked.
>>713881447>>713900571Comment was too long but to add to this "gamer culture" was way, way stronger. So much shit happened in the 2000s that would get you an instant ban today. It was way safer to talk shit in general and say certain things that are frowned upon now. This factor combined with the vastly increased social interaction in general gave communities a lot of character whereas today everything feels fucking sterile because one wrong joke now pushes you closer to a permanent ban.
>>713881789That site wasn't for datamining. It was for user-inputted data collection based on experiences from the live server, not hidden game files.

>>713914232>less content and all of it designed so you can do it while jerking or watching twitch VOD's is a GOOD THING (and here's why)
What ruined wow was the damn addons and the casual game design
Addons makes raiding too easy and/or boring
Casuals (aka normies) make the social aspect of the game boring
Casuals demand the game to be designed around them, making the game boring in this process
Cash shop and blizzard selling gold is a thing because of the normies
Therefore, fuck normies
>>713914560The game is completely new player unfriendly for reasons beyond addons.

The game is in an absolutely shit state in virtually every way, how can you possibly think it's "very good"? Fucking delusional.
Oldtroons think it's obvious that people will want to grind the same boring shit over and over to get higher item level gear. This idea is not actually sold to new players. Especially nowadays that there's literally no prestige in items and you don't really need it for anything other than harder raids and pushing keys (which new players dont think about)

>>713915441NTA, but m+ is an extremely divisive topic. Some people think m+ should be the pinnacle of content, and that blizzard should balanced everything around it. Others think m+ is terrible and not very fun to grind out. The current expansion allows you to basically gear entirely solo if you want to. Of course its slower but many people prefer just to take the slow route without dealing with the absolutely awful m+ community. I don't call communities toxic because I think its overused, by the m+ community is extremely toxic, picky, and expects everyone to play perfectly especially the tank. Go try to learn m+ as a tank without any addons, pathing guides, just raw dogging it with the knowledge you learn from Heroic dungeons. You will immediately never want to touch m+ again. M+ dying out is not a symptom of game design, but rather the community itself killing m+.
>>713916007Also it's badly designed shit non-content for whales.
>>713916007It's funny but one of the biggest reasons everyone should avoid WoW isn't the game itself, but the people that play it. I genuinely think the League Of Legends community is better than the one that plays WoW at this point in time.
>>713916007I am very anti-m+. It's a rat race I participate in for ~2 expansions if we don't count the brief jaunt during Legion. At that time, it was already starting to turn me away, but I did it because friends, and because it was basically forced homework to get anywhere at all.
It was more tolerable before the weekly vault, which is probably the worst part, but it was never really any good, in my opinion.
It's just a bastardized version of challenge modes.
Alas, the only people remaining now swear by it, because most of the people that hate it were already ran off.

>>713881326 (OP)Blizzard have learned that there is no cost to lowering quality, most won't quit.
>>713916313Yeah, of course they did, since the entire thing most people play that WoW do is just run M+ over and over and over and over and over. If you're not interested in that you quit the game, unless you keep your sub to raid log. PvP is flat out dead, it's amazing how completely and totally it's died. So what's even left aside from M+? That's the entire reason they added Delves, to keep all the players that wouldn't engage with M+ subbed. Except what's the point of getting high ilvl gear if you're not going to raid or M+ anyways? WoW has painted itself into a corner.
>>713916720post achievement score
>>713916720That's basically how I look at it.
>Everyone who plays loves M+!Yeah, that's because the people who don't fucking quit.
But I get that Blizzard is a conundrum. Their focus on their esports homework mode drove away everyone who dislikes it, and now only the people who do like it remain. Ergo if they were to now kneecap it, they'd lose those people too with no gaurantee that the people who left will return.
That's the entire reason they added Delves, to keep all the players that wouldn't engage with M+ subbed. Except what's the point of getting high ilvl gear if you're not going to raid or M+ anyways? WoW has painted itself into a corner.
Quick question from someone who last (sporadically) played in Shadowlands: how competitive is Delve gear? Is there any gear remotely as good as highest M+ level weekly vault gear?
>>713916660idk what that is but i doubt its the kind of content im talking about. the main limiting factor in osrs endgame is skill, not really gear. in MoP i used to think i was pretty hot shit when i did the fight club thing before new tiers made it completely obsolete as any kind of skill challenge. another facet is simply the lack of skill expression in wow compared to osrs. the best players in osrs can reach like 10 actions per second while flicking their mouse 400 pixels to a 10 by 10 pixel area and wow doesnt really have anything that compares mechanically, so you'd have to balance encounters around numbers more so than precise execution.

>>713897589I'm giving you a pity (You) just because you try so hard every single thread and no one ever bites. Treasure this (You) always, as you likely won't receive another.
>>713917746Since Sylvanas became the outright Warchief I don't think you can really claim the rest of the Horde didn't support her.
>>713893691This just tells me that the furry races are made for ERP
>>713881326 (OP)why do they insist on making "cinematics" with their 90 year old game engine? it sucks, nobody of a sane mind looks at this and thinks its good.
talentless niggers
>>713893691Belves are so fucking boring, they're not even interesting elves like they were during BC. When maghar orcs came out I really thought they would eventually overtake regular green orcs in terms of population. It just seems like they never caught on for some reason.
>>713891252>>713890863MMO's were made for Barbarian savages. This is why WOW has been the only good MMO. Nothing better than being an orc or troll just wandering the wilderness looking to kill.
It's more fun, and thematic
Every other MMO is just humans and elves, it looks weird and lame.
>>713923835>Every other MMO is just humans and elvesUnfortunately WoW is also mostly humans and elves. Pretty sure void elves will overtake orcs now soon which will make the top 4 races
>Blood Elves>Night Elves>Humans>Void ElvesPeople are just really boring. RP servers are usually a little more varied tho.
>>713881524The running green cloak who gets shot in the back gets me every time!!
>>713881447it was great. BC and WOTLK were peak.
>>713923835That's a funny thing to say when the Horde is pretty much nothing but Elves now.
>>713881326 (OP)Women just don't understand what makes combat cool, it's not in their DNA. It's like if a guy tried to put on makeup or something, it's not in our skillet so any normal guy just doesn't do it. But unlike women we don't care if we're being left out of woman shit because we don't crave attention 24/7 enough to invade female spaces and subvert them the same way women do to us.
>>713883575Holy shit, I haven't seen this gif in ages.
>>713924672This also applies to sports. They don't give a fuck about men kicking a ball around, but they still feel an insane need to be included in everything.
>>713924672>It's like if a guy tried to put on makeup or somethingI've got some bad news about the modern world you apparently missed out on, friend.
>>713925113>women are like tranny faggotsYou sure showed him

>>713925713well, we all know blizzard is fond of poop...
