He could have just stated that he's doing a full researched playthrough with a bit of acting on top. I don't think anyone would have had a problem with that. Longplays are already pretty common and many people are interested in his style so the acting part would have been probably okay too.
Just playing, doing some acting every once in a while then sharing whatever stories during the playthrough he usually does. It would have gone fine, gain some respect for playing through and memorizing the answers in a single sitting. Maybe make a half-hearted speedrun attempt without any serious intent. It doesn't even matter what level of intelligence a person has, social engineering plays on parts of human psychology which are largely automatic responses or rely on unconscious biases people have and aren't aware of. If you're interested there's three points id highlight as to why you might be confused which might explain some of what this guy relies on

There's 3 things Thor relies on for social engineering most of the time. It's authority, likeability, and the natural tendency for people to double down. The first is authority, he loves to come across as a business insider and expert in all things relating to cyber and game dev as well as flash his credentials. This makes people trust him automatically in the same way seeing a doctor in his full dress would in a hospitable , it's less about ability and more about an image. This makes people put their guard down since they can relate to him on some level which makes him seem more human.
