I think the most we can expect of Gaster is hints that will make it obvious that he's there if you know anything about him, probably hidden as secrets, but never a direct reveal.

What do you think Gaster's endgame is?
I used to think he was only an observer, but having his followes/goners/whatever in the town and going "MY deltarune" makes me think he has something to gain from what's happening.

Will we ever get to fight any version of him?

Seeing the gaster theories come back to life has perhaps been the best thing to come out of Deltarune posting.
