my ultimate takeaways

>great ones: ultra street fighter 4 (although i'm pretty sure the ai cheats), street fighter 5 (for sheer volume), granblue versus rising (no real story or unlockables but has dialogue for each character), under night, KOF14

>GG Strive is weird and poorly explained, if you don't end up on the expert route you basically get 0 content and just a series of nothing battles with a nothing ending

>tekken 8's arcade mode is pretty good, each character has an opening and an ending and a distinct final boss

>the only "arcade" mode to rival blazblue is smash ultimates classic mode which are each tailor made for every individual character and its scaling difficulty for how well you do is a genius inclusion. this is the best part of smash ultimate

For starters I do not like the art direction they took with it, at all. I STRONGLY dislike the way they tried to blend realism with the usual exaggerated proportions and designs. I can sort of see what they were going for but I think they fucked it up tremendously and I fucking hate the results. The music sounds bland as shit too and even the fucking logo was turned into something sterile and soulless.
I don't like the newcomers either. I think JP is -kind of- cool, or would be with a better hair style but I fucking hate every single one of the others, including Luke who is technically not a newcomer since he got shoehorned into SFV
As for gameplay, I have never played it myself but none of the gameplay I have seen over the course of 2 years makes me want to even try it out; constantly being on the lookout for Drive Rush sounds like a pain in the balls, throw loops are retarded, being able to stun or being stunned with a single attack instead of the usual stun meter/attack frequency mechanic sounds retarded, the length and frequency of Super Attacks also puts me off.
The cadence and quality of content also seems to have dropped drastically since SFV; the game gets 4 characters per year (but season passes cost the same) the characters are getting way less costumes, and these costumes don't even have variants anymore.
tl;dr hate the aesthetics and hate the way offense works in the game

relius's doll needs to be manually summoned and unsummoned to recover meter and he can't directly control her like carl does, she only gets to move via her buttons. relius' doll also gets forcefully unsummoned when he gets hit
relius gets locked in an animation when using the doll's motion input moves, unlike carl which is what allows him to perform some of his bullshit like having his doll hit you from offscreen in the middle of your blockstrings
there are some other important factors like carl being able to score knockdowns from air combos without needing ada unlike relius who needs to summon ignis thus using part of her meter before even setting up oki. ada also has a lot more health than ignis and uses less meter for her actions in general despite not even needing to leave the stage to recover like ignis

Don't get me wrong, I think Zeta is great conceptually and I love her design, but her gameplay never clicked with me.
Vira seems capable enough in her base form, and strong as fuck when transformed. You could always practice playing her as your secondary character, broaden your horizons
You could wait and see if Cygames gives Zeta anything good next patch I guess. I hope they do, I don't even play her and even I was baffled when they nerfed her of all people...

It was very frustrating to see some peoples' reaction to the nerf. Many don't understand how it affected her.
The next patch is what I fear. So many times I was thinking "surely they won't touch Zeta, she's fine", and then there is some weird rebalancing with her. Sometimes even in a good way! Like making some of her Arvess combos easier, which helps a shitter like me. Sometimes a deserved nerf, her ult-spear combo damage at the start of the game was ridiculous and needed to be toned down.
I hope they give her something in compensation for the previous nerf next time. But they might also take her into an odd direction.
Vira can be a tad frustrating when you are in the base form and your opponent is a shoto that basically does everything better + having a fireball. But cheeky 5Us, silly Lumi set-ups and the exhilaration of getting your transformation is so damn fun. It's an adrenaline rush, and the combos you get out of this feel so powerful.
But then there is my inner contrarian that doesn't like playing a character that is already so popular, and then the other part thinks about all the hours I spend labbing Zeta...
Soriz was also a candidate for a "head empty, wanna smash" secondary.

Not at all, it's always refreshing to read people talk about their experience with the game and what they like and dislike about it and the characters, instead of reductionist takes about it.
I started with the Free edition so I was a Gran main for quite a while. I got to try almost every character eventually and once I upgraded to the full game I focused mostly on learning and playing Anila. I love Anila, her voice and personality are cute, her theme puts me in a good mood, and I like the absurdity of riding a sheep to slam people.
I am currently learning Sandalphon and Lucifer, with varying degrees of success; Sandalphon doesn't seem to have any significantly bad matchups, but when I play Lucifer I often get slapped before I can gain momentum.

Honestly anti-airs in SF6 are super weird, most normal anti-airs have a big chance of fucking you over and getting you counterhit, and the reward is often something like +8.

Meanwhile DPs can only fuck up if they don't hit because they're air invuln (and can be done from crouching)

I don't know much about Mash but she seems like a pretty standard rushdown character, and if you like Mika you probably like having access to strong air mobility options. I'd say try Tsubaki since she's a good rushdown character with access to really good stagger pressure, a command grab, good midscreen tools and big damage with resources. If you want characters with air mobility similar to Mika and want to put in the work you can try Valk or Tao.

Almost every character with the exception of Seth, Vat, and Chaos are arguably the strongest they have ever been in the series since they have more tools and more means to access extensions/damage.
Wagner is still strong. She still has a Ragna 5B, a better Hyde 6B, guardpoints, and her 22C is even stronger. Plus you can fully buff after a A+B combo ender and super.
It's just that nobody besides a handful of people actually player her for whatever reason.
Nobody in UNI gets that nerfed that they become unplayable. In Vat's case it was simply making her gems have actual counterplay instead of being fucking uninteractible.
