>Instead of "printing money", why don't they aim for "printing MORE money"?I don't know what sway tPCi have in controlling GF other than deadlines, but one major complaint is root GF is super top heavy with management outnumbering the programmers and artists. Many old heads prefer simpler systems, mechanics, concepts, and ambitions like ones they worked with in handheld games, and a common complaint is they don't try to excell or push limits.
One devil's advocate argument I can see being made is comparing the additional costs of this extra effort compared to the return, which possibly could be not much more than profits as is.
One of the darkest times for Pokemon is seeing Black and White, one of the most creative titles that departed from a lot of the formulas and with all new pokemon on the base game, did poorly comparatively to the other main titles. After that GF went back into making gangbusters after KANTOOOO pandering with XY's megas and so on. It's so sad but the money showed them that low effort, nostalgia are safer bets. This is why remakes are shit and main games have skeletons for post game content. If the games launched with the DLC regions (Sword, Scarlet) they would feel like complete robust games. But alas, capitalism ho.
