Absolutely yes. It'll be especially useful for getting crude oil faster which is one of the harder resources to gather.

Research is very good. Later upgrades also give you stuff like chance for free bonus crafts/smelts, or lower costs for all that expensive lategame gear.
When you hit the crude oil roadblock the upgrades also help you extract it faster, and electricity upgrades make it easier to keep up with the large amount of energy an oil base needs.
For raid bosses all those base defense/attack buffs for your pals also add up a lot.

I think it's more than worth it. I spent the weekend playing and I kept finding new stuff.
One cool thing I noticed is that new pals are not confined to the new areas, there's a couple new additions (in comparison to the release build) to old areas, like the cool ostrich in the old desert area.

Gold is way faster to earn through selling mats than idle farming, but the play for gold is condensing Dumud Gilds to ranch for both oil and money. Get Vampiric on them so they ranch all day.
You can set item multiplier high (and you should because FUCK bounty tokens) and farm Life Crystals in the Terraria dungeon. 120k per run at 3x mult. Makes adding traits through surgery easy.
Fishing in Master Rank locations is also good, but not as fast as Life Crystals.

Beyond the world tree pretty much everything else has been covered. Since they added swimming and unique sleeping animations for some Pals who knows what else will be added now.

Pals derping out is more rare, and there's a lot fewer issues with pathing over/through structures.
It still happens, but there's better tools to automatically "fix" issues they run into, like respawning at the palbox on their own, or long distance working a station if they decide they can't reach it.
It's not perfect, but it's leagues better than it used to be. Between the times I played last update and this one, I've only had to rescue two pals, one that somehow went through the floor and was dead in the ocean beneath, with nobody able to retrieve them, and one that got stuck in a pond on the corner of my base, that my base grew to include, that I fixed by just paving over it. That one probably would have fixed itself, honestly, I was just there to see it, so pulled them out.
Bird pals are no longer fucked doing base work, all the big shit got their collision reworked to work within single story spaces, and while the pathing lines pals take are occasionally suspect, like I have one base where the favored route to and from the rooftop ranch is apparently up the seam of the internal staircase, along the outside of the building, things are generally very "functional" now, if not always ideal.

With all this space, everyone now gets to have a nice big bed.

Yeah, you can set to aggro, but that makes them aggro on anything, and occasionally makes 'em start fight with merchants and stuff when you dismount.
Before, throwing them out while targeting something would make them aggro onto that thing specifically. Now you gotta have them out, then shoot or otherwise aggro tbe target.
It's a quality of life hit, but is otherwise not that big of a deal.

I think the game is in a really good spot right now in terms of systems of progression. The troonsition table and skill books basically fix all of my gripes with breeding and dog coins make exploring fun. Now they just need to fix base building and the character creator

That's actually inefficient later on since the resources only drop in stacks of one. This makes your transport pals much less efficient because they can only pick up per stack. Once you unlock buildable resource nodes you should build over the spawn points to prevent them from respawning

breeding a whalaska to fish better and fishing master spots while waiting for my crude oil drills to get enough oil for enough plasteel to begin playing the game again is better than the plasteel grind was before the update, at least
