The main arc is resolved and you're given an ending. S4 hints at and teases you with more mysteries about it's origin and sets up some plots that end up going fucking nowhere, never resolve themselves and are replaced with bullshit I can promise you isn't worth your time. Finish S3, you won't regret it. But don't go past it.

Iirc the initial idea was to actually make a game about, instead it was made in to a 9 book series when then got adapted in to a TV show (which only covered 6 books until kike bezos cancelled it).

It's a decent scifi story, one of its strengths is that it's relatively realistic compared to shit like star wars and star trek. The issues of spaceflight, mars habitation, outer solar system habitation, etc are all explored very well.
