I stand by after the updates RoTN has turned out pretty fantastically I love the call backs to SoTN and the power scaling is exactly what a metroidvania should be. By the end of the game all the unique powers come together and movement options feel really good to traverse with. Huge bonus for all the character playthroughs as well which change up the formula alot.

Ultima Underworld was the first "true" 3D game for the most part, and it's still more mechanically complex than most games that come out now. Quake was the first "full 3D" game a lot of people played, and it has brilliant use of 3D spaces. Ziggurat Vertigo by itself blows away anything on the N64. On consoles the PS1 had Tomb Raider which had 3D platforming, and big open interconnected levels. It was also a cultural phenomenon with normalfags. For third person sword based combat, Tench was already a thing. Arcades also had full 3D games with fast paced combat like Virtual On, and Sega arcade games especially were hugely popular and influential in Japan.

You may now proceed to tell me how those don't actually matter because you read Game Informer and it said OoT invented 3D games, even though the only thing it actually pioneered was automated "cinematic" movement that reduces player control and simplifies the game by treating the player like an idiot at every turn.

I'm not a "tendie" i haven't owned a nintendo console since the late 2000s. I started PC gaming in 2009 or so and never had any interest in arena shooters especially not older ones. I only play newer competitive games i.e overwatch in 2015 apex after valorant and now the finals. For me the only notable part of the level is when you get the invincibility and jump on the building and shoot the shamblers with the rocket launcher.
But also this level introduces shamblers as that enemy that you kill with the rocket laucher while you are invincible. And also none of this involves low gravity except that you use it to jump higher so you can get on top of the buildings. A ramp could have done the same job.

Im saying that this level introduces rocket launchers, and a new powerful enemy. It does so by handing you a rocket launcher and 30s of invincibility near the end of the level and telling you to go to town on a powerful boss enemy with a cool lightning attack that the invincibility protectsyou from.
Except the enemy actually resists rockets and takes half damage from them, and its lightning is the weaker attack and it is actually much much stronger at melee. The game designs itself to intentionally teach you wrong about what shamblers do, and when they show up later and you try to apply the lessons you learned you get fucked.

Except BOTW is nothing like it. You can use a game for inspiration and fall extremely flat. Which is exactly what happened. BoTW will never live up to it's predecessors. It has worse gameplay and mechanics than most of them. LttP is a much more difficult game. It's not that LttP is insanely hard, it's just that its difficulty is way underrated, especially if you aren't glued to a guide and always having the optimal loadout.

You constantly have to make sure you have the right items, manage your health, make tough decisions about bottles. If you use too many bottles then you're stuck farming for rupees. The runback to bosses is tough as you start off with half-health so not only need to basically not get hit if you want a fighting chance, you also need to recover HP. I would put Zelda 1 and LttP on similar difficulty level and they are both on the harder end compared to contemporaries
