MAYBE you could reason it as Kris being so utterly mindbroken in the moment that you literally cannot force him to say anything, and that he was recollecting the last few moments where somehow Noelle was forced to thank him... or the SOUL, as it would be, except the new sprite completely changes the context of everything.
It's not an allegory. It's a panic move to not be cancelled.
