The answer is probably the same as the other 99% something begins to pop up all over /v/: it's trending on twitter or ticktock.

Shit from more mainstream social media constantly filters down to here, because... that is just the age we live in.

I like the Phantom, I find it interesting how he was born in the U.S. (by a Jewish author) then the rights were purchased by a Swedish financier (also Jewish) and taken to Europe which is why he never was very popular in the U.S. but became a big hit in Europe. Also there's like only 2 games for some reason, one on SNES and one recent beat'em up that looks mid.

I grew up in Germany in the early 2000s and you couldnt go anywhere without seeing anything duck related somewhere

Donald, and by extension all of the ducks, are too working class for americans, which is why they found enormous succcess in Europe, specifically in northern countries like Finland or some of the south like Italy.
In Italy Donald became THE Disney character because he felt immensely relatable to both the readers and the artists, which is why the vast majority of the italian made Disney stuff is about Donald (and all the other ducks) while Mickey is largely unpopular.

The idea of the page is good. You arrive at a wreck, and use Occams Razor to handwave away the actual order of events. Its like if you have to write "get hit by weather balloon" to get a insurance case for your car after it being hit by a UFO
But the execution ends up focusing in the mythologization of the event, which I guess feels sour.

I think it's an interesting way to contextualize the anger "powerup". Like you said, it's all about the mythos of the event, but you can also see it as all the stars lining up so Scrooge can take his chance and turn the tables on Slick. Adding this dimension of "opportunity" to the old "weaponized anger" trope makes it resonate a lot more with me

Can confirm as a kid the Mickey stories were the least interesting to me and I would sometimes skip them when reading (on the other hand there were times when Goofy acted as a sort of sidekick to Mickey as they went on adventures, I liked Goofy a lot more for some reason perhaps because he actually admits to having flaws while Mickey acts as this insufferable know-it-all who is always right and never wrong, really despicable personality type.)

That's because Mickey himself sucks dick, he a wholly uninteresting character that's hard carried by Goofy and the supporting cast.
Donald on the other hand is cool because he feels like an actual character, he has kids to take care of, shenanigans with Daisy or the rest of the family and his relationship with Scrooge being actually fairly multifaceted, and he has his RAGE, Donald feels real, Mickey is just a cardboard cutout in comparison.

I remember this one Mickey & Goofy story where they go to some small town in a way for vacation and they end up getting arrested by the police. Mickey laments that there's no way they can get out and then they suddenly meet the towns real sheriff who reveals the cops are actually a league of criminals who rule the town with an iron fist and out of the blue Mickey can pick a lock with a fucking jig. Even better is that the lock on the cell door was obviously one sided so not only did Mickey learn how to pick a lock with something that's not suitable but he also managed to do it without seeing where he was sticking that jig. Of course Mickey & co wins because asspull reasons. I always get so fucking mad when I think about that story.

There's one other story where Pete sets up a car repair shop. The story is written so that it seems like Pete is actually making honest living, but of course this round-eared detective wannabe has intuition that "Pete must be doing something illegal" and then in the last two pages it was revealed, to no one's surprise, that Pete was actually having an illegal car shop and Mickey somehow knew every process Pete & co made despite never having stepped inside said car shop beforehand nor having seen how Pete operates. True, Mickey was always kind of a Gary Stu. Donald was my favorite because he takes on problems without already knowing the answer to everything, with the world trying its best to stop or slow him down. He has awful luck, people don't respect him, he lacks knowledge, he often directly fucks up himself, and yet he always gets back up and gets shit done, even has his superhero gig on the side. I always saw it as him having every excuse to turn into a villain, or a thief, but his iron will and moral code makes him into a better duck.
Mickey on the other hand has no character growth, well, ever, since he's always right. And he's not even entertaining about it like Scrooge is.

Eh, it depends honestly, cartoon mickey in the classic era was a fairly different character, he was still annoying and largely a gary stu, but not to the same degree as the comics, also cartoon mickey tends to have a lot of the disney cast around him rather than just sticking with Goofy and the Mickey approved characters, it wasn't until the more recent decades that Mickey and Donald got separate supporting casts which sorta exacerbate Mickey's gary stu issues.
Even there, Donald has always been the more real character of the two, Mickey was always the hero while Donald was the unlucky guy prone to fits of rage and huge mistakes, but also the one who tries his damn best at being a good person and do the right thing.

So why are Superhero comics the only type of comic thats popular in america i dont get the appeal of them?
I tried getting into them once but its impossible Marvel and DC comics are incomprehensible and frankly horrible
Characters die all the time and its supposed to be a tragic event but then they come back as if nothing happend and nothing ever changes
Spiderman was a poor wagie with no gf when he started out in the 60s and he still is a poor wagie with no gf fighting against the same villians every week but every no and then he dies and comes back or so
In Europe there is much more variety in the stuff thats popular but its mostly humerous adventure stories like Asterix Tintin or lucky luke but even then theres a ton of variety
Asterix is about the ancient gauls fighting against Romans Lucky Luke is about an cowboy in the Wild west and Tintin is similar to Rosa duck storys where some reporter has funny adventures all across the globe
So why is only one type of story popular in america?

Because north american culture is all about corporatist exceptionalism where everything has to conform to a predetermined set of values that are socially and economically acceptable, actual exceptionalism is frowned upon.
Europe is much more interested in the unusual and the exotic which is why spandex people never really had a lot of hold until the later years and artists preferred more unusual and romantic ideas you can see with things like Corto Maltese and the likes, also Europe was much, much hornier and zany, which is how you get stuff like Ranxerox, La Foire aux immortels etc., superhero stuff was appreciated but largely seen as puerile outside of a couple of specific exceptions like Batman, which at some point became gritty enough to become fairly popular in here.

I think it's far simpler than that: super hero comics were selling at the time, received enough marketing and spread to keep selling, and dominated the market. Disney (and many others) didn't know how to market their stuff, or didn't know how to reach new readers, and so they basically folded.
And what's funny is that while Marvel and DC are the primary "big" comics publishers, if you look elsewhere, like Scholastic handling Bone, there have been other successful comics in America. Just that instead of targeting the audiences Marvel and DC had pinned down, they target book fairs and book stores, to be sold alongside Harry Potter and the like.

Italy has such a large output of stories there's inevitably going to be a lot of weaker stuff.
I don't know about the classics adaptations since they've never really been my thing, but PKNA and DoubleDuck are very much recommended.
I also tend to really like most Italian stories that feature Magica but I'm biased since she's a favorite of mine. I've seen a bunch of fan translations of those around.

Also, like >>714609015 said you're gonna see a bunch of characters you're unfamiliar with but I wouldn't say there's really a single continuity, it's more like Carl Barks stories which are loosely connected if at all, rather than the Don Rosa stuff which has a very defined timeline.

I understand Italians/Germans based on the context they were made but outside games they have the best of everything Donald has ever been in (best animation, best individual comic, best show, only real park ride, best grouping) but they are nonexistent in Europe outside the Dutch Weekbald remaking the old American comics since they are very broad in what they make stories for.

PKNA is also italian. There was basically a slow transition from Donald's alter ego being a sort of anti hero who used his gadget to get revenge on the people who wronged him, which parodied the kind of noir comics that were popular in italy at the time, to him taking on a more heroic role as trends shifted, culminating with him getting his own saga with a proper continuity and a dedicated cast of recurring characters.

Then they started a second run in 2001, at which point american Disney execs took notice of the series and were like "alright, now shut it down and reboot it but with all these extra restrictions on what you can do so we can sell it to the american audience"
The reboot failed miserably and everyone still hates it to this day. They went back to the original continuity and released a few stories that expanded on it sometime in like 2015, I don't think there's been anything else since then but I might be wrong.

I think it was about collectible monsters. Donald has all of them. Then a new catalogue drops and there's a monster nobody has. That start a wild goose chase where Donald goes through all his sources. In the end Donald ends up forging his own copy, but then it turns out there was never such a monster in a first place and it was just an easter egg. I think the fad ends there and Donald's collection is now worthless because nobody cares anymore.

Like the other anon said, several of Don Rosa's stories have references to or are sometimes direct sequel's to Carl Barks' stories. If you want the full Don Rosa experience you also ought to go through the entirety of Barks' stuff as well.

Though there's a handful of parts where their canons directly clash. For example the very first appearance of Scrooge McDuck in Barks' production has him meet with Donald and the boys at the end of the story. The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck meanwhile treats the events of that specific Barks story as vaguely canon, but him meeting Donald and the boys didn't happen in that way. I also recall from one interview that Don Rosa explicitly treats the entirety of that one Barks' magic hourglass story as non-canon since it explains Scrooge's wealth as a result of a magical luck device.
