He was already fucked up in DS1 without the isolation, unless I'm missing something. Amelie chose one psychopath to be her champion of death and Sam as the champion of life, it's that simple. Higgs powers come from Amelie (which he still has for plot purposes). You can see that he can no longer control the tar at the end of DS1 when it's revealed that Amelie is pulling all the strings

It's still the same underlying gameplay loop as DS1, but gameplay wise its really just an improvement in basically every way you could imagine, better combat, better stealth, just more stuff.

Only real big issue with it imo is really just that its way too damn easy and you really have to handicap yourself to see all the insanely cool mechanics and systems in the game

Higgs is definitely more complex than Volgin , Liquid and Armstrong. Remember that he wasn't always like this. He was a legendary porter like Sam. From his point of view humans deserve to go extinct. He used to be part of an organization that saved BBs from the facilities. Then slowly became mad due to his increasing DOOMs and manipulation from Amele.

A prequel game about his fall could be on the same level as MGS3.

Liquid is a mix of daddy issues, inferiority complex, grandiose ideals. Armstrong wants to change the political landscape and turn humanity into a more self sufficient society.

Well for one Last Stranding is not just a suicide, it resets everything into a natural order. People shouldn't be stranded on the beaches or turn into nukes. The world is still just as fucked up at the end of DS2.

And going by the Liquid comparison you can find all sorts of traits in Higgs just like that. His uncle beat him and forced him to stay inside a bunker, until Higgs snapped and killed him to escape, which lead him to discovering his DOOMs. He definitely feels inferior to Sam and ashamed about his face too, that's why he wears a mask. And he had plenty of grandiose ideals from making the world a better place to bringing about the Last Stranding.
