Nintendo threw decades of lore out the window because it was established many times that the power of the sword is that it cannot be touched by anything evil. That is why it was so deadly as it's repelling force allowed it to cut through any monster. So the notion of Malice being able to not only touch the blade but even break it is fundamentally flawed writing. It was just an excuse to copypaste BotW and push Zelda to the sidelines again and fridge her as a dragon.
